  • Does Agroindustry Accelerate Convergence of Economic Growth in East
           Java'

    • Authors: Dwi Budi Santoso
      Pages: 1 - 9
Abstract: In most areas of East Java, the economic development still relies on the agricultural sector.  Meanwihle, since 2008, agroindustry has grown fast in East Java. This situation should have impact towards higher economic growth in lieu with lower regional development disparity, or speed of convergence improvment. However, the reality seems to be different, where the level of regional development inequality in East Java is still far above the National level. Thus, this study aims to estimate the magnitude of agroindustry in the acceleration of convergence in East Java. This study uses least squares and spatial models as estimation methods as well as the Barro convergence model as the basis of model analysis. The data used is panel data from 38 regions from 2010 to 2019. The estimation results show that agroindustry development has played a role in accelerating convergence improvement, but not too big. One reason is that there is still no spillover effect arising from agroindustry development.

Abstract: This study aims to determine which sectors and areas should be prioritized in development in BalI. The data used is panel data from 2010 – 2022 for all districts/cities in Bali. The data analysis technique for mapping sectors and regions is Multi-View Hierarchical Agglomerative Clustering (MVHAC). The results of the analysis of Location Quotient and Dyanmic Location Quotient show that the SARBAGITA area (Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan) has potential in the secondary and tertiary sectors, while other areas are in the primary sector. MVHAC analysis shows that in quadrant 1 (cluster 1), namely Badung and Denpasar, the sectors that can be developed are agriculture, forestry and fisheries; real estate; manufacturing industry; water supply, waste management and waste recycling and mining and excavation, the area of quadrant 3 (cluster 2) of Tabanan and Gianyar is almost similar to Badung and Tabanan, but the potential sector is also transportation and warehousing, while quadrant 4 (cluster 2) is more on the information and communication; real estate; educational services; health services and social activities.

  • The Macroeconomics Factors and the Crisis-induced Sentiment of Fears
Impact on Indonesian Government Bond Yield

    • Authors: I Gusti Ngurah Agung Arya Bhakta Narayana, Arief Wibisono Lubis
      Pages: 139 - 156
Abstract: Great Financial Crisis 2008 and the COVID-19 crisis are two world crises that happened in the last 20 years, yet there’s so little literature that connects the sentiment of fear to the bond market. This study focuses on analyzing the impact of the sentiment of fear caused by the two crises that occurred in Indonesia, namely the Great Financial Crisis in 2008 and the COVID-19 Pandemic, along with macroeconomic factors to 10-year Indonesian government bond yields using VECM methods. The results showed that only the Federal Reserve interest rate has a significant impact on the government bond yield in both crises, while the rest is not significant. This result shows that in both crises, the Indonesian government bond yield was affected by only the Federal Reserve’s reaction to the crises, while not considering how both crises could cause negative sentiment from the investors.

This study examines the resilience of the Ubud’s community in facing the Covid-19 pandemic which is influenced by community capital in the form of social capital, economic capital, cultural capital, institutional capital, and infrastructure capital. This community resilience then affects the community's decision in returning into the tourism sector in the post-pandemic situation. Quantitative research is conducted and the data was collected by distributing questionnaires to 100 respondents and supported by literature studies, observations, and interviews with informants related to this research. The results of the study found that social capital, economic capital, and cultural capital were in the good category and had a positive influence on the community resilience in Kawasan Wisata Ubud amid the Covid-19 pandemic.  That resilience increases the people's optimism about returning to the tourism sector in the post-pandemic situation.
