      Abstract: International Journal of Energy and Statistics, Volume 05, Issue 02, June 2017.
      The nature of the so called renewable energy (i.e. wind, solar, wave and tidal) led studies to refer to it as a stochastic generation processes and its dynamic behavior strengthens the need for robust and accurate analysis tools integrated to energy systems. The steadily increasing penetration of wind energy around the world raises a demand to better understand the behavior of historical data to infer indispensable information for the future market. This paper proposes an approach to analyze a wind speed time series using a recent decomposition method called TBATS and Moving Blocks Bootstrap for scenario generation. Results indicated complex multi-seasonality patterns as the simulated scenarios could represent statistically the mean; however, only 75% of the variance on the best scenario was explained, suggesting nonlinearity.

  • Exact results for efficiency and effectiveness assessment of longitudinal
           porous fins

      Abstract: International Journal of Energy and Statistics, Volume 05, Issue 02, June 2017.
      In this work, thermal performance of porous fins with temperature-dependent thermal conductivity is revisited. It is shown the governing strongly nonlinear differential equation, which has been formulated by performing Darcy’s model, is exactly solvable. A full discussion and exact analytical solution (Dimensionless temperature distribution along the length of porous fin as a function of porosity and convection parameters) in the implicit form is given for further physical interpretation and it is proved the solution is mathematically unique. Furthermore, we give exact analytical expressions of fin efficiency and fin effectiveness as a function of convection parameter. Also, the exact ratio of porous fin to solid fin heat transfer rate as a function of thermo-geometric fin parameter is obtained.

      Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machine has been utilized in numerous applications, especially in WECS. This paper discusses the inner rotor configuration of PMSM i.e. IRPMSM and the design equations have been formulated in terms of design variables or physical parameters. The design formulation of a 500KVA, 3.3KV, 3 phases, 600rpm IRPMSM used in VAWT for WECS has been discussed where; the objective function for design of IRPMSM has been formulated by weight function, while temperature rise, efficiency, regulation and maximum flux density in stator teeth are used as constraints. The parameters estimation of electrical equivalent circuit of PMSM has been done while minimization the error function. With the estimated parameters, the performance of the machine has been estimated. The error function has been formulated using least square method and the error function obtained using output current of the machine. Both the problems have been optimized using GSA and its hybridization with PSO i.e. GSA-PSO. The formulated optimization problems is programmed in MATLAB and results using GSA and GSA-PSO have been obtained with required optimization curved of all the parameters. The sensitivity analyses have been performed using local sensitivity analysis over design parameters of IRPMSM.

  • Introducing DBSCAN in the singular spectrum analysis procedure

      Abstract: International Journal of Energy and Statistics, Volume 05, Issue 02, June 2017.
      This work proposes using DBSCAN to recognition of noise components of eigentriples in the grouping stage of SSA. The DBSCAN is a modern (revised in 2013) and expert method at to identify noise through regions of lower density. The hierarchical clustering method was the last innovation in noise recognition in SSA approach, implemented on package RSSA. However, it repeated in the literature that the hierarquical clustering method is very sensitive to noise, is unable to separate it correctly, and should not be used in clusters with varying densities and neither works well in clustering time series of different trends. Unlike, the density based clustering methods are effective in separating the noise from the data and dedicated to work well on data from different densities. This work shows better efficiency of DBSCAN over the others methods already used in this stage of SSA, because it allows considerable reduction of noise and provides better forecasting. The result is supported by experimental evaluations realized for simulated stationary and non-stationary series. The proposed combination of methodologies also was applied successfully to forecasting a real series of winds speed.

  • Optimal design of novel FLPSS for power network connected solid oxide fuel
           cell using of HSS algorithm

      In this study, a FLPSS is proposed for attenuate the low frequency oscillations of a power network connected SOFC. At first this work studies the theory and modeling manner of SOFC into power network and its effect on small signal stability. The paper demonstrates the fundamental module, mathematical analysis and small signal modeling of the SOFC connected to a SMIB network. The basic contribution of the study is to attenuate the low frequency oscillations by optimal stabilizers in the presence of SOFC. To optimize the performance of the system, the FLPSS is exploited and designed by the HSS algorithm. In order for assessment of the performance of the proposed stabilizer, two different types of controllers include optimal conventional stabilizer and the proposed dynamic stabilizer based fuzzy logic controller are compared. To guarantee the effectiveness of the proposed optimal stabilizer, the simulation process takes in three scenarios of loading conditions. Results indicated the superiority of the proposed FLPSS over optimal classic PSS in the same operating conditions. The simulations are carried out using MATLAB software.
