This study analyzes Borja’s exploration of the different types and effects of Grace, as well as the language used to express the relationship between human freedom and the supernatural. In addition, this article considers some objections which could be considered about the topic and interprets the emblematics of Juan de Borja from the perspective of Thomistic principles and concepts. The industrialist and freemason Tomás Heredia (1819-1893) commissioned the Italian architect Antonio Cipolla (1822-1874) with the project of designing a palace that included a cabinet decorated with pompeian paintings. Heredia also charged the British gardener Stephen Geoffrey with the design of a landscaped garden with emblematic elements. Authors:Lola Martínez Ramírez Pages: 47 - 65 Abstract: ABSTRACT: Contrary to the affirmations of almost all of the previous studies on the Italian maestro Michelangelo Antonioni –full of adjectives on emptying, isolation, absence, alienation, among many others–, the presence of the body and touch is a true constant in the work of the Italian cinematographer. This article traces the persistent presence of the body in all of Antonioni’s filmography and formulates a reading of his entire corpus of work leading up to his latest film, Lo Sguardo di Michelangelo (2004), an interpretation that runs contrary to all previous research. With a focus on the latest work of the Italian filmmaker, this article studies touch in the history of cinematographic aesthetics and proposes the possibility of touch as a cinematographic experience. RESUMEN: Contrariamente a las afirmaciones de casi la totalidad de las investigaciones sobre el maestro italiano Michelangelo Antonioni –colmadas de adjetivos sobre el vaciamiento, incomunicación, ausencia, alienación, entre muchos otros–, la presencia del cuerpo y del tocar es una verdadera constante en la obra del cineasta italiano. Esta investigación traza una línea de persistencia del cuerpo en la imagen que formula la lectura contraria de todo su corpus fílmico y derivan en su última obra: Lo Sguardo di Michelangelo (2004). A través de esta última obra del cineasta italiano, se estudiará el tacto en la historia de la estética cinematográfica y se propondrá la posibilidad del tacto como acto cinematográfico. Authors:María Dolores Sánchez Pérez Pages: 67 - 75 Abstract: ABSTRACT: This article considers painting inspired by poetry through the study of two authors: Anselm Kiefer and Robert Motherwell. The relationship between painting and poetry is presented through the differentiation of media, established as a metaphorical tension. It is painting born from the aesthetic experience of reading that causes a spark that gives rise to the creative seed. It is poetry that is transformed and converted into a new knowledge and it is launched to follow the movement in a continuous swing. I present different ways of approaching the works of these two painters by means of words in this study. Such an approach allows us to be overwhelmed by the emotion of the text as a creative beginning that gives rise to autonomous works, distanced from illustration. For the development of this study, we must try to experience these works first through emotion, before painting and before poetry, because this type of painting is best accessed by being in the position of spectator-participants. KEYWORDS Painting; Poetry; Metaphor; Motherwell; Kiefer. RESUMEN: Este artículo es un acercamiento a la pintura que nace de textos poéticos a través de Anselm Kiefer y Robert Motherwell. Presentamos la relación entre pintura y poesía desde la diferenciación de medios y nos acercamos a ella entendiéndola como una tensión metafórica. Es pintura que nace de la experiencia estética de la lectura que da lugar al germen creador. Es poesía que es transformada y convertida en un nuevo conocer y que es lanzada para seguir el movimiento en un continuo vaivén. A través de los dos pintores estudiados podremos acercarnos a diferentes formas de afrontar la pintura de la palabra desde la emoción del texto como forma de inicio creativo que da lugar a obras autónomas del texto original, alejadas de la ilustración. Para el desarrollo del trabajo, trataremos de situarnos en un lugar que permita la experimentación de esas obras desde la pasión, ante la pintura y ante la poesía, porque es desde nuestro ser espectadores-participantes desde dónde se accede a este tipo de pinturas. To this end, I first analyze in depth an example –emblem 153, Cum larvis non luctandum– of how the Milanese author manages, through the combination of an Erasmian adage, a Hellenistic epigram and a related image, to revitalize the topical message contained within them. The article continues on to show how a very similar method is used in the Your Verse campaign by the creative minds of the TBWA\Media Arts Lab and Apple to evoke all the prestige and evocative capacity contained in the film Dead Poets Society and its protagonist Robin Williams, on his already iconic iPad. RESUMEN: Este artículo pretende mostrar como la técnica emblemática iniciada por Andrea Alciato en el siglo XVI sigue vigente de algún modo en la publicidad actual. Para ello primero se analiza en profundidad un ejemplo –el emblema 153, Cum larvis non luctandum– de cómo el autor milanés consigue, mediante la combinación de un adagio de Erasmo, un epigrama helenístico y una imagen relacionada, revitalizar el mensaje tópico encerrado en ellos. A continuación, se muestra cómo un método muy similar es empleado en la campaña Your verse por los creativos de TBWA\Media Arts Lab y Apple para atraer todo el prestigio y capacidad de evocación encerrados en la película El club de los poetas muertos y su protagonista Robin Williams sobre su ya icónico iPad. Starting from this Nietzschean theoretical framework, we approach this aspect from his proposal of the creative will of metaphors as artifices of images that point to the separation of the human being from his own time in a tragic exercise. In this way, we enter into an evaluation of the notion of artifice in relation to the creative function of dreams that Nietzsche recovers from baroque thought, specifically through his incursions into the work of Gracián and Calderón’s Life Is a Dream, and following this tradition, we will venture to study this transcript from the analysis that the pictorial work of Giorgio de Chirico allows in the expression and evolution of the creation of melancholic images through the germ of surrealism in Metaphysical Art. RESUMEN: Este artículo aborda la relación con las imágenes desde el estado psicológico de la melancolía a través de la estética de Nietzsche. Partiendo de este marco teórico nietzscheano, enfocamos ese aspecto desde su propuesta de la voluntad creativa de metáforas como artificios de imágenes que apuntan a la separación del ser humano de su propio tiempo en un ejercicio trágico. De esta forma, nos adentramos a valorar la noción del artificio en relación con la función creativa de los sueños que Nietzsche recupera del pensamiento barroco, concretamente a través de las incursiones a la obra de Gracián y La vida es sueño de Calderón, y siguiendo esta tradición, nos aventuraremos a estudiar este trasunto desde el análisis que permite la obra pictórica de Giorgio de Chirico en la expresión y evolución de la creación de imágenes melancólicas a través del germen del surrealismo en la pintura metafísica. Authors:Victoria Bernad López Pages: 107 - 119 Abstract: ABSTRACT: Christ’s washing of the feet of the apostles is one of the iconographic types that make up the theme of The Last Supper. This event is first narrated in the Gospel of John, who relates it in detail, something that the synoptic Gospels do not do. The main objective of this article is to carry out a diachronic study of the continuity and variation of this typology. This essay provides research on this iconographic type from its origin and development in the East and further development in the West after the fall of Constantinople. To achieve this goal, I have utilized the iconographic-iconological method, paying close attention to the relationship between the written and visual sources. Studying these biblical and patristic texts allows us to reflect on the significance of washing understood as a process of purification, of the forgiveness of sins, and as a gesture of humility on the part of Christ. Finally, I deal with some aspects relating to the context related to the conceptual and imaginary scope of the iconographic type. I deal mainly with issues relating to the Councils and Synods that established the sacraments related to penance and confession, as well as those that formed the basis of the practice of washing within the liturgy. RESUMEN: Uno de los tipos iconográficos que forman parte del tema de la Última Cena es el del lavatorio de pies de Cristo a los apóstoles, pasaje narrado únicamente en el Evangelio de Juan quien lo desarrolla de forma detallada a diferencia de los evangelios sinópticos. El objetivo principal de este artículo reside en realizar un estudio diacrónico de la continuidad y variación de esta tipología desde su nacimiento en Oriente y su posterior desarrollo en Occidente tras la caída de Constantinopla. Para alcanzar dicho objetivo, se ha utilizado el método iconográfico-iconológico atendiendo a la relación de las fuentes con las imágenes. El estudio de estos textos bíblicos y patrísticos, ha permitido realizar una reflexión acerca de la significación del lavatorio entendido como un proceso de purificación, de perdón de los pecados y como gesto de humildad por parte de Cristo. Finalmente, se han abordado algunos aspectos relativos al contexto donde se ha puesto en relación el tipo con su ámbito conceptual e imaginario tratando cuestiones relativas a los concilios y sínodos donde quedaron fijados los sacramentos relativos a la penitencia y confesión, así como aquellos donde se asientan las bases de la práctica del lavatorio dentro de la liturgia. In this context, the pyramid plays a fundamental role, as a transmitter of multiple meanings. Its image, both archetypal and also unknown or shrouded in a certain halo of mystery, is found in emblems in great abundance. This study details the different meanings attributed to the pyramid, by means of both a visual and literary review. The visual aspect includes a great wealth of images, while the literary analysis relies not only on the motto and texts that accompany the images, but also on references to passages from classical and biblical sources, Church Fathers, and scholars from different periods. In this way, the influence of pyramids on emblematics will be attested with a profusion of symbols, allegories, and metaphors. KEYWORDS Emblem; Pyramid; Archetype. RESUMEN: La imagen en la Emblemática sirve para transmitir diversos mensajes que enriquecen aún más su relato visual y literario. En este contexto, la pirámide juega un papel fundamental, como transmisora de múltiples significados. Su imagen, a la vez arquetípica y también desconocida o envuelta en cierto halo de misterio, se presenta en los emblemas de una manera profusa. En este estudio se muestran los distintos significados atribuidos a la pirámide, a través de un recorrido tanto visual, con gran riqueza de imágenes, como literario, apoyado éste no sólo en los lemas y textos que acompañan a las mismas, sino también en referencias a pasajes de fuentes clásicas, bíblicas, de Padres de la Iglesia y eruditos de diferentes épocas. Authors:Javier Azanza López Pages: 135 - 161 Abstract: ABSTRACT: The origins of the Spanish Society of Emblematics (SEE) go back to the 1st International Emblematic Symposium, organized in Teruel in 1991 by Santiago Sebastián, a pioneer of iconological-iconographic studies in Spain. Since then, the SEE has ensured the consolidation, development and dissemination of emblematic research in Spain through various activities, including its international conferences. Three decades and thirteen congresses later, the half thousand studies presented in them constitute a representative example of Hispanic emblematic production, susceptible of an analysis from different perspectives. This article does so from the perspective of its border-crossing nature embodied in its interculturality and interdisciplinarity, two of the identifying signs of emblematic research and two of the main challenges of the Humanities for the 21st Century. Desde entonces, la SEE ha velado por la consolidación, desarrollo y difusión de la investigación emblemática en nuestro país a través de diversas actividades, entre las que destacan sus congresos internacionales. Tres décadas y trece congresos después, el más de medio millar de trabajos reunidos en ellos constituye una muestra representativa de la producción emblemática hispánica, susceptible de un análisis desde diferentes perspectivas. Este artículo lo hace desde su naturaleza transfronteriza plasmada en su interculturalidad e interdisciplinariedad, dos de las señas identitarias de los estudios emblemáticos y dos de los grandes retos de las Humanidades para el siglo XXI.
