Authors:Steiner Rudolf; Essuman Betty, Vesta Adu-Gyamfi Abstract: The extent of the nature of Indigenous Ghanaian pottery is extensive and its constituents countless and wide-ranging. For this reason no comprehensive and convincing explanation of this art has been made, although several unpublished and published studies have been made as an effort to expose the nature of indigenous Ghanaian pottery. Many people look at this as an art form monopolized by women, others see it as a cultural artifact without any reference to the makers who are women. The forms, forming and functions of indigenous pottery is shrouded in secrecy and belief, giving this art a moral dimension and a religious scope. This piece of writing does not only bring about a parody but conflicts particularly on the religio-cultural boundaries. The object of the writing is to explain the nature of indigenous Ghanaian pottery and its various dimensions and to indicate that, this art is the product of human achievements. This has been the gallery of information that has guided indigenous pottery practitioners and pottery societies since the period indigenous pottery was not considered as necessary component of original traditional art forms of Ghana. Authors:Tengku Ghassany; Acep Iwan Saidi, Yan Yan Sunarya, Dyah Gayatri Puspitasari Abstract: The culture of praying has developed in Nusantara since the entrance of Champa into Nusantara. Austronesian culture is the result of the inter-national mixture and is a long historical journey. It has been suggested by historians that lame is one of the tribal names found in the Minangkabau community. (Dahlan, 2015). The cultural development of the region of western Sumatra brought the cultural journey to Siak Sri Indrapura through the leadership of King Kecik. The result of the melting of culture is one of them is the creation of art, that is, the textile. It is now one of the artifacts preserved by the Indonesian government as an intangible cultural heritage. The textile has its own philosophy of both the craftsmen and the users of the textile. The philosophy of the textile lies in its motif, so this study focuses on the motif of the splash as a representation of the motive of the lining. The textiles used as research objects are the Siak textiles found in the digital museums found in 1900 and 1940. The selection of such objects is the evolution of the motif of the scratch that does not bypass the value of the aesthetic authenticity of its basic form. The research aims at (1) finding the aesthetic value of the basic shape of the motif of the crevice. (2) Understanding the transformation of the textile over 40 years later, knowing the change and validity of the value of a motif. Research methods that use qualitative methods. Research data is obtained through observations, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used are data collection, data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The results of the research showed that: Pucuk rebung is a motive that became characteristic of the crowd, proven from various textiles that come from the area of Sumatera using the motif of pucuk rebung with the context of the existence of the society in the region. The values of the scapegoat as a symbol of strength, prosperity, and misery remain to this day. The aesthetically embroidered structure has an equal-legged triangle base that still lasts for 40 years later, counting from 1900 to 1940. The changes that occur in the textile are in the material, the layout of the textile, and the distance between the motifs. Related to the function of textile in the 1900s and later 1940s still have something in common, that is, as a valuable textile and have artistic and aesthetic value. The color used by the king is adapted to the hierarchy. The change that occurs in the function of the weave is as a cenderamata given to the nobles of Beladan, so that the weapon is no longer a weave only used by a king, this is what marks the beginning of the change in the Weave of Siak Keywords: Artefact, Tenun, Siak, Pucuk rebung, Aesthetic DOI : 10.7176/ADS/110-07 Publication date: June 30th 2024

Authors:Kenneth Ssemwogerere; Obedirwoth Ken Daniel Abstract: The functionality of an Accident and Emergency facility directly impacts on the possibility of living of any patient on arrival to that unit. It significantly influences the quality of patient care and the overall efficiency of the day to day activities, given that it acts as the first point of call for patients that come in a very critical state. The purpose of the study was to examine the critical architectural design factors that affect the provision of emergency care services at the facility. A descriptive and exploratory approach using qualitative data collection methods was adopted, involving an extensive review of existing literature and in-depth case studies with the leading case study being the largest and oldest national referral hospital in Uganda, Mulago. Data was collected through observation, literature and interviewing the users which included the medical staff, patients and their attendants at the facility. The study revealed that one of the critical factors for the functionality of these facilities is accessibility - site placement, egress, wayfinding and signages, entrances and the spatial layout of the facility. Furthermore, factors like privacy, security, safety and comfort were also of primary importance for the users’ wellbeing. Issues to do with spatial quality such as lighting, ventilation, acoustics and temperature greatly impacted the quality of emergency care. The caretakers at this unit expressed their dissatisfaction at the wait times, highlighting the need to reinvigorate the facility’s waiting areas design. Staff members also underscored the need for their privacy. The research revealed critical design lapses at the facility which negatively impact the quality of service Keywords: Design, Functionality, Accident & Emergency (A&E) Unit. Authors:Wahida Wahyuni, Riswani ; SyielviDwiFebrianty , Destrinelli . Abstract: This research highlights the issue of overlap in dance education for children and adults, both in formal education contexts in schools and non-formal education in various settings. Teaching practices often prioritize dances intended for adults with themes of romance and high levels of difficulty, while children are rarely given the opportunity to develop their creativity and sensitivity to objects. The creation of dance as an educational tool in the GumalaKreatif Community emphasizes innovation in arts education, particularly at the community level. This study explores how the creation of dance can be integrated as an effective and meaningful learning tool for community members. By utilizing the surrounding environment as a source of inspiration, especially through observing chicken movements, dance creation becomes a means for children to authentically express their creativity while enhancing self-confidence and personal achievement. This creative process emphasizes an applicative approach that prioritizes active participation of children in learning. Additionally, the research explains how various auditory, visual, kinesthetic, and ideational stimuli enrich children's creative experiences, enabling them to absorb inspiration from diverse sources and apply it in meaningful dance movements. The research findings highlight the importance of arts education in enriching children's learning experiences at the community level and provide insights into how the integration of local cultural arts can result in holistic and meaningful learning experiences. Authors:Babarinde B.J. Abstract: Rhythm is the pattern of regular or irregular pulses caused in music by the occurrence of strong and weak melodic and harmonic beats. African rhythmic pattern is characterized by improvisation and many other rhythmic techniques. The focus of this paper is to analyze the rhythmic pattern of “who man” and to identify and decode cultural values in Nigerian popular Music by examining this Lagbaja’s music. To achieve this, the paper adopt both primary and secondary sources of data, with a close listening to the music of Lagbaja “Who man”, within the ethno musicological frame work .The paper reveal that in this music, lagbaja used more than one gong which brought about an interlocking rhythmic pattern, the paper further revealed that this popular music brought the younger ones closer to the tradition of using African musical musical instrument which is fast fading away due to the influence of the west and he gave himself a clear identity as an African musician the paper raised the issue of gender inequalities as mention in the music admonishing the men gender to live and treat the female gender appropriately. The paper therefore concludes that with good knowledge of the basic rhythmic pattern or bell pattern in African music, African popular musicians can be more creative and innovative with a clear sense of identity.
