  • Starbucks' Marketing Public Relations: A Beverage or a Lifestyle'

    • Authors: Muhammad Syendi Apriko, Anita Trisiah
      Pages: 1 - 19
Abstract: The old Islamic culture of 'drinking coffee' has become integral to Indonesian people's daily lives. The large variety of Cafés also completes the lifestyle of urban people. The Starbucks brand originating from America, has become an option for many coffee lovers, especially in Palembang. Therefore, researchers want to know whether Starbucks is only a food and beverage brand or is it a lifestyle. Conducting desk research and observation methods at four Starbucks outlets in Palembang and using the 4Ps marketing approach and marketing public relations strategy theory, the researchers found that Starbucks is not only a food and beverages outlet but has embedded its brand as a lifestyle and utilizing a theoretical and digital media to further strengthen the existence of the Starbucks brand to consumers and potential customers.

    • Authors: Miranda W. Lubis, Abdul Rasyid
      Pages: 20 - 34
Abstract: This article aims to discuss the interaction of religious communication in the Karo majority area in Durin Jangak Village. Religious harmony refers to the cooperation of religious communities based on tolerance. In the experience of religious teachings, there must be mutual understanding, mutual respect, and equality. Therefore, looking at the relationship among religious people, the purpose of this research is to review more deeply how the interaction of religious communication exists in the Karo ethnic majority area in Durin Jangak Village. The In-Dept Interview data collection technique is used in a phenomenological qualitative research approach. This includes in-depth interviews with informants in the form of questions or oral conversations. The results of the study show that the communication interactions of religious communities in Durin Jangak Village, where the majority are Karo tribes, are mutual respect, non-judgmental, non-intimidating, greeting each other, accepting differences of religion and opinion, and not forgetting tolerance as a manifestation of avoiding inter-religious conflict.

  • Implementation Of Qaulan Layyina Communication Principles In Implementing
Bureaucracy In The Provincial Government Of Nort Sumatra

    • Authors: Ahmad Sampurna, Mhd. Fitriyus, Rubino Rubino
      Pages: 35 - 51
Abstract: This study aims to analyze the application of the qaulan layyina communication principles to the bureaucracy in general, identify the momentum to apply the qaulan layyina communication principles to bureaucrats in the North Sumatra Provincial Government, analyze appropriate media to use, and identify communicators who should use the qaulan layyina principles. To obtain the data, interviews, observations, and document studies were carried out. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, namely displaying data, reducing data and concluding. In order for the data obtained to be tested for its validity, it is carried out by triangulation testing both the methods, sources, and results. The results show that the application of the qaulan layyina communication principle to the bureaucracy in general today has not been fully implemented properly, because even though there are checks and balances as a means of distribution, sometimes criticism is actually used as defamation or negative accusations, so that when someone wants to convey a message or advice they will think and hesitate to convey it. The point is that there are rules that "shackle" so that information cannot be freely conveyed to bureaucrats in Pemprovsu. The momentum to apply the qaulan layyina communication principles to bureaucrats in the North Sumatra Provincial Government was mainly conveyed at PHBI events or moments that were agreed upon for the delivery of opinions. Media that are appropriate for use for the application of the qaulan layyina communication principle to the bureaucracy in Pemprovsu are print, electronic and online media with 2 categories, namely those registered with the North Sumatra Diskominfo and those that are not registered. Communicators who should use the qaulan layyina principle are all partners both inside and outside the government. It's just that it remains within the corridor of the existing rules by referring to the communication principles that are generally used and the journalistic code of ethics. The results of the study show that the momentum of applying the qaulan layyina communication principle is something that should be implemented through a transparent and realistic process.

  • Representasi Peran Ibu Ideal Dalam Islam Pada Film Ali Dan Ratu-Ratu
           Queens

    • Authors: M Yakub, Melisya Febi Damayanti, Indah Fadhilla
      Pages: 76 - 90
Abstract: Islam teaches humans to glorify a mother. In carrying out the role of a mother, women face various challenges. A mother's struggle to become an ideal mother can be seen in the scenes in the film Ali and Ratu-Ratu Queens. The representation of the mother's role is seen by using representation theory through the meaning of the scenes that highlight the character of the mother. The approach used in this research is qualitative by using Stuart Hall's representation theory in data collection techniques using observation and documentation. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the meaning of the mother's role in the film Ali dan Ratu-Ratu Queens is as an educator, a friend, a protector, and as a role model. These roles are part of the intrapersonal communication model of a mother to her child. This research is critical because the film is one of the da'wah media. Even though this film is not a film with a religious theme, this film has a very sharp meaning in representing the communication between mother and child to portray the ideal role of mother in Islam..

  • Hegemoni Amerika Dalam Film Independence Day: Resurgence

    • Authors: Rina Darojatun
      Pages: 138 - 159
Abstract: The United States uses Hollywood as a mecca for the world's entertainment industry to instill its ideology in ruling and controlling other countries through films. This article discusses films that can hypnotize audiences and are the product of a socio-political and cultural structure, one of the films entitled Independence Day: Resurgence is inserted by hegemonic practices by instilling ideology in the audiences who watch it. This study aims to explain how the hegemony of the United States in the world through a content analysis approach that is reviewed by media dependency theory and Marxist media theory, data collection techniques by looking at the text in the film and the context behind it. In conclusion, the theory of media dependency analyzing the influence of the media is able to create new cognitions for the reputation of society and the state so that it can easily instill its influence, doctrine and global hegemony. This is evidenced by the film's theme, namely the historic day of "independence day" of the United States. This is where the momentum is to be used as a venue for "proofing" them or the big countries' Self Assertion. Through a Marxist media theory approach, in fact the United States wants to show a friendly face to all countries while maintaining its image as the ruling state and world police. The United States consciously applies the established status quo as a superpower. The scientific argument that is built is that the specific political-economic conditions that develop in a country, have a mutually determining relationship influenced by global political-economic conditions.
