           to Islamic Reform Movement

    • Authors: Ahmad Nabil Amir
      First page: 260
Abstract: This paper aims to present a survey of Abduh's extensive influence on Islamic reform (tajdid) in the Indo-Malay Archipelago, which often called Nusantara. Muhammad Abduh had a remarkable and lasting impact on religious thought and movement in Nusantara. His works and ideas were influential in the political and social landscape. He strongly impacted the movements of Muhammadiyah, al-Irsyad, Persatuan Islam (Persis), and Sarekat Islam. His Tafsir al-Manar brought inspiration with a rational outlook that influenced major tafsir works such as Tafsir al-Azhar, Tafsir al-Quranul Karim, Tafsir al-Qur'an al-Madjied (Tafsir al-Nur), Tafsir al-Qur'an al-Hakim, Tafsir al-Misbah, and Tafsir al-Furqan. The al-Manar magazine initiated by Muhammad Abduh significantly inspired many reform-oriented works and periodicals such as journal al-Imam, al-Munir, al-Ikhwan, Saudara, al-Dhakhirah al-Islamiyah, Qalam, and Seruan Azhar.

  • Cultural Politics in the Transformation of Islamic Education in South
Sumatra: A Study of the Pesantren Law 2019

    • Authors: Kiki Mikail
      First page: 295
Abstract: The relationship between the governing state officials and the ulama (Islamic scholars) governing pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) is mutually beneficial. One of the state’s accommodations regarding the pesantren’s interest and development is the formulation of legislation that provides a stronger acknowledgement and better legal foundation for the betterment of the pesantren, which is law number 18, 2019, concerning pesantren. The importance of this law and its relationship with the dynamics of Indonesian politics and Islamic education is still under study. Therefore, this article aims to unfold how Indonesian cultural politics engender the legislation of pesantren and whether such legislation positively impacts the betterment of the pesantren institution. Through qualitative research, this study found that the mutual relationship between the Indonesian government and Islamic learning institutions gives a conducive political and social environment for the formulation of the law regarding pesantren and the law strengthens the legitimacy of the pesantren in the Indonesian legal and educational system.

  • What Islamic Education Teachers Need To Know and Be Able To Do To Teach
           Students Higher-Order Thinking Skills'

    • Authors: Neneng Kurnia Rahma Putri, Caly Setiawan
      First page: 308
Abstract: Islamic education is said to have less relevance with today's social change in society or does not provide an illustration of the sociocultural context, so students do not appreciate religious values as values that exist in everyday life. This phenomenon requires Islamic education teachers to adopt a teaching approach focusing on higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). Unfortunately, not many Islamic education teachers understand such an approach and how to implement it in their classrooms. This article is a library research study using a content analysis approach. The purpose of this article was to review the literature on HOTS and to offer Islamic education teachers the possibilities and pitfalls of employing this approach. The literature review results show that the basic thing that Islamic education teachers need to do in the 21st century is to change the orientation of their learning from Teacher Centered Learning (TCL) to Student Center Learning (SCL). Islamic education teachers need to prepare and pay attention to various aspects of implementing HOTS-based learning, from planning activities to assessment activities, which must be carried out according to the implementation procedure.

  • Tourism in the Sharia Frame: A Study on the Relationship of Tourism and
           Religion in Yogyakarta

    • Authors: Thoyyib Alfath
      First page: 340
Abstract: Indonesia is one of the countries with a majority Muslim population in the world and has the potential to develop the halal industry, namely sharia tourism. The Special Region of Yogyakarta is one of the regions that has its cultural wealth and nature by developing this potential as an increase in the regional economy, as well as increasing the halal score of the Indonesian industry for the world. Local governments made various efforts to improve services for tourists interested in sharia tourism, such as ACES (Access, Communication, Environment, and Services). This study uses a qualitative method by interviewing parties involved in the concept and implementation of sharia tourism in Yogyakarta (Yogyakarta Tourism Office and Yogyakarta Indonesian Ulema Council) and also uses literature obtained from websites and books as the data used. The results found in this research are that halal or sharia tourism in Yogyakarta has been said to be advanced with the concept offered, following the Grand Design of Sharia Tourism Development by the National Committee for Sharia Economics and Finance. However, what is of concern to implementing the sharia tourism concept both in Yogyakarta and other areas is the extent to which the sharia concept is implemented correctly, namely by the religious foundation (Qur'an and Hadith).

  • The Representation of Prophetic Intelligence in The Learning Outcomes of
           Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan

    • Authors: Bahar Agus Setiawan, Sofyan Rofi, Tri Endang Jatmikowati
      First page: 354
Abstract: This study examines the learning outcomes of Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyah in students, which can be related to the image of prophetic intelligence as an indicator. The paradigm of prophetic intelligence is closely related to the dimensions of intelligence. It can be understood as a continuation of the meaning of intelligence initially based on intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and collaboration into ESQ to prophetic intelligence. This perspective is closely related to the ideal desire that the purpose of education is not only intellectually intelligent but also emotional and spiritual and is currently popular with the term prophetic intelligence as an identity attached to the output produced. The balance of human/social dimensions with divine/religious dimensions is an inherent characteristic of the terminology of prophetic intelligence. This study aims to link the learning outcomes of Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah as an image of prophetic intelligence to students as ordinary people. The basis of the research method used refers to a qualitative approach with research instruments in the form of a questionnaire with structured answer options. The study found that Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan learning can develop and improve on the human/social dimension, which includes tolerance, critical and creative attitudes, maturity in attitude, and communicativeness as an indicator of the image of prophetic intelligence that can be relied on several events in the life of the Prophet Muhammad such as Hudaibiyah agreement, laying of the Black Stone, and leadership in the state of Medina. As for the divine/religious dimension, the learning outcomes of Al-Islam and Muhammadiyah, such as faith, understanding of the Qur'an, and the totality of implementation of the halal-haram aspects, although they have improvements and results, cannot be pinned on the dimensions of prophetic intelligence, due to differences in the position of students as ordinary people.

  • The Multicultural Islamic Education at Muhammadiyah University of Mataram

    • Authors: Palahuddin Palahuddin, Mappanyompa Mappanyompa
      First page: 366
Abstract: This study aimed to determine the responses of non-Muslim students to AIK (Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan) learning materials and the factors behind their responses to AIK learning. This quantitative field research applied a case study model where the respondents and the sample in this study were non-Muslim students at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) University of Muhammadiyah Mataram (UMMAT), which were taken through a systemic purposive sampling. After that, the data collection was carried out using closed and mixed questionnaires. Then all data were analyzed using percentile descriptive statistical analysis techniques and drawn to a conclusion using deduction and induction methods. The results of this study were first: the response of non-Muslim students to Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan (AIK) learning materials was very positive by attending all meetings held by AIK lecturers, both online and offline meetings. This is evidenced by the data processing results showing that the majority of students stated that they were satisfied as much as 62%, while 8% said they were very satisfied, and as many as 30% said they were quite satisfied. Second, the factors behind the response of non-Muslim students to AIK learning are: 1) campus policies that require all students, both Muslim and non-Muslim, to take AIK courses, 2) awareness that arises in students to know Islam more even though in the end it did not become their belief, 3), the desire to realize the nature of religious tolerance in fellow students on the UMMAT campus.
