  • Foreignization Strategy in the Quranic Translation by MoRA: Study of Surah
           Al-Baqarah

    • Authors: Toto Edidarmo, Zainal Muttaqin
      Pages: 1 - 15
Abstract: This study aims to find out in-depth about the application of foreignization strategies in translating the Quran into Indonesian. The application of foreignization strategies in terms of meaning accuracy in the source language (SL) and target language (TL) as well as its suitability with the cultural context. The research method used is content analysis adapted from Krippendorff (1980). Based on an analysis of the foreignization strategy implemented by the Quran Translation Team of the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) of the Republic of Indonesia, it was found that 94 words and phrases were foreignized in the translation of Surah Al-Baqarah. Judging from the aspect of the accuracy of meaning, equivalence, and its use in Indonesian, the vocabulary is still accurate in meaning, as intended by the SL text and its users. However, some absorption vocabularies experience a shift in meaning, broad, narrow, general, and specific, as well as those containing good and bad values. Two factors influence the translator in implementing the foreignization strategy in the translation of the Quran, namely (a) the condition of the Quranic text, which is difficult to translate into Indonesian, and (b) the translator’s belief that foreign vocabulary retention (foreignization) can give the nuances of the authenticity of Arabic culture (Quran).

  • Social Reality-Based Arabic Language Learning in Islamic Senior High
           School

    • Authors: Ahmad Nurcholis, Muhamad Asngad Rudisunhaji, Timbul Timbul, Heri Efendi, Siti Marpuah
      Pages: 16 - 29
Abstract: Social reality is an interesting issue in Arabic learning in madrasas because students can connect the subject matter with the phenomenon in the community. The purpose of this study was to analyze the success of MA Sirojut Tholibin Bacem Sutojayan Blitar in implementing social reality-based Arabic learning. It is qualitative research with an exploratory approach and phenomenological analysis. This study used the theory of social reality initiated by Paul Ricoeur (in 1973). The principal of Paul Ricoeur said that human actions in social reality are symbols of language, while these symbols invite certain thoughts and interpretations. The results of this study indicated that MA Sirojut Tholibin had succeeded in implementing social reality-based Arabic learning. The students’ Arabic language competence is increasing through social reality approaches such as learning ethics, juvenile delinquency, and the influence of social media. The learning media used included news articles, newspapers, websites, and scientific articles.

  • Implementation of Aptitude Treatment Interaction (ATI) in Nahwu Learning:
           Identification of Student Ability Characteristics

    • Authors: Hikmah Maulani, Maman Abdurrahman, Nalahuddin Saleh, Ahmad Faqih, Faiz Dzul Fahmi Hamdan
      Pages: 30 - 43
Abstract: Aptitude Treatment Interaction (ATI) is used as a learning method that treats differences in student abilities; this is considered appropriate for Nahwu learning. The purpose of this study is to elaborate on Nahwu's learning activities using Aptitude Treatment Interaction (ATI) through the involvement of lecturers and students. This study uses a qualitative approach; the participants are non-Arabic speaking Nahwu students in Indonesia, totaling 40 students. Data collection techniques are using observation, structured interviews, and using questionnaires. The results showed that there were implications for the use of Aptitude Treatment Interaction (ATI) in learning motivation, as indicated by an increase in scores on the evaluation of students' Nahwu understanding abilities and perceptions that showed a good assessment of this method. The recommendation of this research is the preparation of teaching materials based on Aptitude Treatment Interaction (ATI) for Nahwu learning that can be done at universities in Indonesia.

    • Authors: Aulia Mustika Ilmiani, Mukhtar I Miolo, Hunainah Hunainah, Ahmad Maghfurin
      Pages: 44 - 55
Abstract: Arabic Language Education study program students at IAIN Palangka Raya are prospective Arabic teachers who are prepared to have foreign language competence, but students still experience difficulties for various reasons. It makes all PBA Education study program lecturers simultaneously implement several activities in selected subjects to build literacy in reading books in foreign languages, both Arabic and English. This research aims to describe the process carried out by lecturers in building reading literacy of foreign language books, either Arabic or English, on PBA students in IAIN Palangka Raya. This research used the descriptive qualitative method. Data was collected from the interview, observation, and documentation, then further analyzed through data reduction, presentation, and verification, and validated with the triangulation method. The initial result of this research indicated that the lecturers do various activities to build students’ reading literacy, those are: introducing reading references in Arabic and English language, explaining the advantages of reading these references to the students, giving insight into reading steps, assigning students to review the references, and assisting students in composing and publishing scientific papers. This research suggests writing literacy for students and further research on different subjects and locations.

  • Utilizing Technology to Improve the Quality of Learning in Indonesia:
Challenges and Consequences for Arabic Teachers

    • Authors: Mahyudin Ritonga, Sobhan Sobhan, Bambang Bambang, Safi Khadidja
      Pages: 56 - 68
Abstract: Islamic boarding schools are identical to traditional learning because they ignore and do not respond to technological developments. This study aims to describe the media used in Islamic boarding schools in teaching Arabic, teachers' perceptions of technology-based media, and opportunities to change the media used in Arabic learning in Islamic boarding schools. This study was conducted with a qualitative approach in Islamic boarding schools where students were selected according to their needs. Data were collected by observation, interviews, and documentation studies. Based on the results, the Batang Kabung Islamic Boarding School used traditional learning media. However, there are open opportunities to apply technology-based media because of the openness of pesantren in accepting changes with an internet connection, human resources for education staff, and students' ability to operate technology-based learning media. The consequences faced by Islamic boarding schools are curriculum revisions, more operational costs, adjustment of methods with learning media, and the need to improve teacher competencies in utilizing technology-based media.

  • Praxeology Concept: Investigating the Actions of Primary School Teachers
           in Achieving Arabic Teaching

    • Authors: Anwar Sanusi, Mahfuz Rizqi Mubarak, Abdulkhaleq Al-Rawafi
      First page: 85
Abstract: This study presents the results of an investigation of Arabic teachers' actions at the primary school level in achieving the objectives of teaching and learning Arabic. This study used a descriptive qualitative approach with two data collection techniques: observations and interviews. The collected data then were analyzed using a didactic anthropological theory based on three main components: the teachers' desire (want) to act, the means or methods used by the teachers, and the results or objectives (end) achieved by the teacher's actions. The results of this study showed that first, Arabic teachers had a strong desire to overcome the problems faced by the students, especially in the demotivating aspect of studying Arabic. Second, from the results of those desires, the Arabic teachers determined and used several methods such as presenting the materials using songs, cartoon videos and integrating Islamic religious knowledge. Third, the actions or methods used by the Arabic teachers resulted in positive outcomes in teaching and learning Arabic for students at the primary school level.

  • Analysis of Language Errors Syntactic Review For The Tarkîb Washfî
           Category in The Student Thesis

    • Authors: Tulus Musthofa, Nafisatun Nisa, Abd Rauf Hassan
      First page: 97
Abstract: This study aims to discover the mistakes in understanding and using Arabic grammatical rules, especially in the syntactic review of the as-shîfah wa al-maushûf category in the Arabic education student thesis (PBA). The research object is only limited to the discussion chapter, which results from the author's ideas and expressions as outlined in Arabic writing. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research with content analysis, which aims to examine, describe and evaluate the language errors of S1 PBA students at Sunan Kalijaga State Islamic University for 2020-2021. The results show that the most errors at the as-shîfah wa al-maushûf occur in the mudzakkar wa mu'annats rule than the rule nakirah wa ma'rifah. Factors that cause errors occur due to a lack of mastery of language and writing rules and the absence of intensive writing practice. The solution offered is to train to write intensively and explore the knowledge needed to support the writing skills (mahârah al-kitâbah).

  • The Role of Arabic Lexicons in Teaching Ta’bîr Material at the Islamic
           Boarding School for Girls

    • Authors: Lina Marlina, Khalid Khamis Farraj, Maryam Jamilah Zahra
      First page: 111
Abstract: This research highlights the importance of the Arabic lexicon in teaching and studying ta’bîr courses in Ma’had al-Imarat Bandung. This qualitative research depends on a field study and a descriptive analysis. This importance is due to three aspects: The first is the ta’bîr courses of materials prescribed in any Arabic language learning institutes to develop students’ four skills. The second is that lexicons are tools for teaching and learning the Arabic language, especially in the subject matter of ta’bîr. The third is that the Arabic lexicon is one of the primary sources people refer to correct their linguistic knowledge. The results indicate that language acquisition is the most important of that knowledge. Furthermore, in acquiring the Arabic language, many factors are linguistic and non-linguistic. Dictionaries are considered one of the primary tools in language acquisition in studying the subject matter of ta’bîr.
