    • Authors: Abdul Haris Rifai, M. Fahrudin Ghozali
      Pages: 117 - 136
Abstract: This study proposed to understand the strategy of character building from the perspective of Imam al-Haddad. This study used a qualitative approach with the type of library research. The research data were collected using documentation techniques and analyzed using content analysis. The results showed that the strategy of character building according to Imam al-Haddad can be classified into two parts, namely: First, character building through spiritual improvement, which includes strengthening belief and faith in Allah SWT, improving intention before committing an act, fostering an introspective attitude, hold fast to the Qur'an and al-Sunnah, cleanse the mind of despicable traits, carry out religious obligations, and do sunnah deeds and their manners. Second, character building through good habits, which include managing and filling time with positive activities, cleaning the body, practicing daily etiquette according to the teachings of the prophet Muhammad SAW, being wira'i, speaking well, getting along with good people, love for Allah, amar ma'ruf nahi munkar, being fair, easy to forgive, devoted to parents, establish friendship, and respect and imitate teachers. The strategy of character building according to Imam al-Haddad's perspective strengthens the theory of strategy of character building according to Imam al-Ghazali's perspective.

  • Living Hadits, Precedent Theory and Health Quarantine: Studies on Maslahah
Mursalah, Sadd al-Dzariah and Ta'un in The Prophetic Tradition

    • Authors: Azis Arifin, JM Muslimin, Wildan Munawar
      Pages: 167 - 186
Abstract: As legal theories and instruments that have been legitimized by many scholars, Maslahah Mursalah and Sadd al-Dzariah become important analytical tools to be observed at the form of their use in the prophetic tradition. They have also a practical significance and relevance in the time of pandemic (Covid-19). Actually, Hadith of Ta’un can be positioned as a precedent value and practice for the Maslahah Mursalah and Sadd al-Dzariah theories in Islamic law. How the Prophet's advice that has been described in the hadith is related to keeping yourself from contracting the virus outbreak, it seems that it can be used as the basis for the current pandemic situation. This research is qualitative in nature, done by using the Usul Fiqh and Hadith Science approaches, emphasizing the use of legal precedent theories. The core existing data is a prophetic living tradition. It is presented in an analytical descriptive manner. The results of this study prove that the Hadith Ta’un is a practical precedent that can legitimize the theory of Maslahah Mursalah and Sadd al-Dzariah as a tool to explore Islamic law and cope with the current situation of the pandemic. The values and principles contained in this Hadith are still relevant today: they can be applied in preventing the transmission of the Covid-19, namely by physical distancing as well as health quarantine and several related adjustments.

Quraish Shihab dan Hamka terhadap Surat al-‘Alaq: 1-5

    • Authors: Thoriq Aziz Jayana, Mansur Mansur
      Pages: 187 - 206
Abstract: This study investigated the concept of Quran-based literacy as the revelation first relegated called Surah Al-'Alaq: 1-5which evoked the spirit of literacy. However, it took efforts in contextualizing its verse to explore the concept of literacy extensively through the views of the commentators, which in this case adopted the interpretation of M. Quraish Shihab and Hamka. This study employed a descriptive-qualitative method with a literature review research design. The results of the study indicated that the concept of literacy in the Quran could be described in various ways aspects ranging from the interpretation of the meaning of iqra 'and al-qalam, purposes of literacy, the object of literacy, and manners in literacy according to Quranic values. Therefore, Allis essentially creates balance and continuity between mind, heart, and actions (think scientifically, show Sufistic spirit, and have productivity).
