  • Institutional Support for Families Taising Children with Disabilities in
the Context of Social Inclusion: Analysis of Children’s Day Centers

    • Authors: Laura Gardziulevičienė
      Pages: 8 - 18
Abstract: The article examines the availability of institutional support for families raising children with disabilities. The aim of the study is to identify opportunities for social inclusion of children with disabilities in the children’s day center. Families raising children with disabilities are unable to function fully in public life due to the lack of access to services. Access to services and assistance, for the most vulnerable groups, depends on the attitude of state social policy makers, financial resources, cooperation, public involvement and, ultimately, the family’s own readiness to participate in public life. The methods of analysis, synthesis, generalization and comparative analysis of scientific literature were used in the research. The research revealed that the mechanism of children’s day care centers operating in Lithuania does not correspond to the model of creating an inclusive environment. Therefore, political decisions are needed on the development of services and the development of social inclusion at both the state and municipal levels, taking into account the needs of families raising children with disabilities. The practical significance of the study is that the study is useful for improving the accessibility of social services for families with children with disabilities and developing the concept of social inclusion.

  • The Evaluation of the Museum’s Attractiveness for Cultural Tourism from
the Visitors’ Perspective: Case Analysis of the BE “Neringos
           Muziejai”

    • Authors: Ernesta Jonaitienė, Kristina Stasiunaitienė
      Pages: 19 - 31
Abstract: Cultural attractions, cultural sites and events are an important motive for travel. The participation of museums in cultural tourism is linked to their activities. Museums, adapted to the challenges of modern society: digitization, increasing the number of services for visitors, presenting and selling new educational programs, adapting to a diverse audience, have the potential to attract more visitors. The needs of the today’s user of cultural tourism are high, and museums seek to reveal cultural content in an interesting, engaging, unexpected way. The aim of the research is to evaluate the opinion of the visitors of the Budgetary Establishment (BE) “Neringos muziejai” about the attractiveness of the museum for cultural tourism. To achieve this goal, the criteria for assessing the attractiveness of the museum as an object of cultural tourism were identified. On the basis of these criteria,  the visitors’ opinions about the attractiveness of the BE ,,Neringos muziejai” for cultural tourism were evaluated. The results of the research confirmed that the visitors of the BE “Neringos muziejai” are educated, middle-aged and higher-income people, for whom it is important to spend leisure time in meaningful and interesting ways, gain knowledge and experience. In their opinion, the attractiveness of this museum for cultural tourism would be enhanced by the overall museum environment, updated exhibitions, competent staff, events in the museum, innovativeness in using modern innovations and technologies such as multimedia, virtual tours, 3D projections, smart guides.

  • Challenges and Opportunities of Family Leisure Organization for Younger
           School-Age Children: Parents’ Opinions

    • Authors: Deimantė Ručinskė, Ieva Bilbokaitė-Skiauterienė, Asta Širiakovienė
      Pages: 32 - 44
Abstract: The success of education in the family depends on the time spent by the parents with the child, the varied and meaningful leisure time. However, in Lithuania little attention is paid to the fact that the working hours and holiday time of parents raising school-age children are coordinated with the children’s school schedule . The lack of  occupation for children  usually poses many social problems. The organization and content of family leisure depends on the ability to involve children in a variety of activities according to their interests and needs. Properly organized leisure distracts children from spending time meaninglessly, harmful habits, provides an opportunity to develop various skills, to communicate with family members. Meaningful family leisure time is often limited by certain obstacles: family composition, age of children, financial situation, parents’ work schedule, supply of entertainment, etc. The aim of this research was to find out the problems and possibilities of organizing leisure time for younger school children in the family. Responding to the goal,  it was sought to answer the questions: how is the leisure time of younger school-age children organized in the family, and what problems do parents face' In order to achieve the aim of the research and to collect the research data, a written questionnaire survey of parents was used. An empirical study conducted in October 2019 (N = 90) showed that family leisure is always or often planned by parents, usually taking into account the financial situation of the family. Families choose both active and passive activities that do not require prior preparation. It turned out that one of the most important problems in planning family leisure time is the insufficient supply of events for families with younger school-age children. There is a lack of events that promote active leisure.

  • Teachers’ Insights on the Development of Personal Competence of Pupils
with Visual Impairments in Music Schools

    • Authors: Aleksandra Žuk-Butkuvienė
      Pages: 45 - 57
Abstract: According to the legal acts of the European Union and Lithuania regulating the aims and peculiarities of the organization of education, non-formal education and learning and educational assistance for pupils with special educational needs, scientific research of Lithuanian and foreign authors, it can be stated that musical activity for pupils with special educational needs benefits revealing and strengthening of their personal competence. However, the research on development of personal competence through non-formal and formal education, complemented with music and art programs for children with special needs, especially students with visual impairments, is insufficient. The aim of the research is to reveal teachers’ insights on the development of personal competence of pupils with visual impairments in music schools. To reveal the aim of this work and to reach its goals qualitative research based on qualitative content analysis is used. The methods to collect information are: semi-structured interviews and monitoring. Personal competence can be defined as corresponding components, that make up  three types of skills: self-understanding (well-being, self-expression, independence), self-evaluation (self-assessment, self-esteem, self-confidence), self-control (self-regulation, decision-making, responsibility, sociability). The results of the semi-structured interview with 5 teachers suggest that purposeful development of personal competence of pupils with visual impairments can help to create and implement already existing social skills, to strengthen and expand them with practical experience. Music schools have an opportunity to educate pupils with visual impairments by individualizing curricula, enabling them to disclose their talents and meeting their individual needs for self-expression, nurturing innate powers, preparing for autonomous life, understanding common values, which will later be used as a framework for their future lives.

  • Investigation of the Physical Properties of a Fabric with a Conductive
           Fibre

    • Authors: Virginija Sacevičienė, Ramunė Klevaitytė, Svetlana Radavičienė, Virginijus Urbelis
      Pages: 58 - 71
Abstract: The aim of this work is to investigate physical and mechanical performance of fabrics with a conductive fibre after washing conditions. Three commercially available fabrics with a conductive fibre and one fabric without a conductive fibre were chosen as a research object. The physical properties of the fabrics were evaluated by the loss of the mechanical performance, changes in structure and magnetic permeability. Fabric elasticity and thickness decrease after washing, except for the fabric without a conductive fibre. Magnetic field permeability of all fabrics decreases after washing. The properties of the fabric with a conductive fibre woven in one direction change the most, its magnetic field permeability is the greatest. In all cases magnetic field permeability at the seam is lower than in separate pieces of the fabric. The highest frequency of the  fabric with a thread woven in both directions is at the seam but in all cases the frequencies of separate pieces of fabrics are lower. Tests showed that the best dielectric properties are of the fabric with conductive yarn woven in the weft direction and the highest capacitance change of which is ΔC=74,79%.

  • Analysis of the Change in Energy Efficiency of an Apartment Building after
           Renovation

    • Authors: Laima Skridailaitė, Edita Mockienė, Loreta Kelpšienė
      Pages: 72 - 82
Abstract: Most Lithuanian apartment buildings were built at different timepoints and are quite old. A large amount of fuel is needed to reach an average degree of thermal comfort. The goal of the long-term renovation strategy of Lithuania is to transform the current building fund, so that by 2050 its energy consumption would be efficient (with the possibility to transform the buildings to almost zero energy consumption) and independent of fossil fuel consumption as well as conforming to the principles of universal design. The article analyses a brickwork 12 storey apartment building, built in 1976, by evaluating its energy efficiency before and after the implementation of a set of modernisation measures. The energy consumption during the seven analysed seasons before the modernisation was on average ~ 108 kWh/m2, during the two seasons after ~ 38 kWh/m2. The actual increase in the building’s energy efficiency is 64.8 percent.
