  • THE EFFECT OF SLIVER DELIVERY SPEED ON THE UNEVENNES OF CARDED AND COMBED
           COTTON YARNS

    • Authors: Ahmet ZEYBEK
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of five different sliver delivery speeds on the yarn unevenness CVm (%). For this purpose, 100% cotton raw material was used, and card sliver samples were produced at five different card sliver delivery speeds (60 m/min, 120 m/min, 180 m/min, 240 m/min and 300 m/min). A total of 600 sample cops were produced in the ring spinning machine, each of which is 10 pieces of knitting and weaving yarn types in the carded and combed machine line, with the yarn counts Ne 20/1, Ne 30/1 and Ne 40/1 from these reed strips produced. The quality characteristics of the raw material used and the produced carded sliver samples were measured using the Uster HVI 1000 and Uster AFIS test equipment. The quality characteristics of the ring yarn cops samples produced on the ring spinning machine were measured with the help of Uster Tester 4 and Uster Tensojet Test devices. The results were analyzed by inferential and descriptive analysis methods. ANOVA analysis method was used for statistical analysis. According to the research findings, in both carded and combed Ne 40/1 yarn samples, an increase in yarn unevenness was observed with the increase in card sliver exit speed, and this increase created a statistically significant difference. The results revealed that the yarn unevenness is directly proportional to the card sliver exit speed and the increase of the card sliver exit speed causes the production of card sliver samples with higher unevenness values (Cvm (%).

  • Effect of Organic Acid Added Washing Solution on the Quality of Fresh
           Chilled Sea Bream (Sparus aurata)

    • Authors: İsmail Yüksel GENÇ; Göknur SÜRENGİL, Kamil ATSATAN
Abstract: In this study, microbiological and sensory changes of whole sea bream (Sparus aurata) which is one of the important commercial fish species in our country, that were washed in washing solutions which contains different concentrations of acetic and citric acid (2%, 2+2, 4+4 and 5+5) were examined during storage at +4 °C. According to the results of the research, it has shown that shelf life of washed sea bream were up to 9-10 day by addition of 2% citric acetic acid. The addition of citric and acetic acids together can extend the shelf life up to 12 days. However, it has been shown that high concentration (5+5%) in the co-addition of organic acids cause sensory quality loss of the samples. In this context, it was concluded that the concentration between 2 and 4% for the addition of organic acids in the preservation of sea bream fish is important in terms of preserving the sensory quality of the products.

           FOR MECHANICAL HARVESTING

    • Authors: Deniz YILMAZ; Gülten TAŞKAYA
Abstract: Mint is the name given to herbaceous plants belonging to the Lamiacea family, which is among the medicinal aromatic plants. In Turkey, the mint plant is cultivated and commercially grown in the Aegean, Mediterranean and Marmara regions. Harvest time in mint is the period when the plant begins to bloom. The aim of the study is to minimize the negativities that may occur in the harvest and threshing process, to contribute to the studies to increase plant yield and quality, and to determine the parameters that may be required for machine design for mint plant. In this study, the physico-mechanical properties of the mint plant were determined for the mechanical harvest. In this study, mints reaching harvest maturity were harvested 5-10 cm from the soil by hand and with the help of pruning shears. After, some physico-mechanical properties such as dimensions (length, width, weight, diameter), breaking force of leaves from stem, projection area, leaf/stem ratio, amount of essential oil were determined. In the study, 13 mint varieties and 4 clones obtained from these varieties were used. Samples were taken from each mint plant. The sizes of the selected mint species were measured and recorded with the help of meters, calipers and precision scales. A biological test device was used to determine the mechanical properties of the plants in three different regions. In addition, the apparatus of the biological test device was changed and the breaking strength of the leaves from the stem was determined. It was determined that the highest value for the cutting force of the mint plant was a zone of Multimentha species with an average of 71.17 N, the lowest value was the c zone of the Maracco Mentha Spicata species with an average of 6.76 N. According to the results of the experiment, the physico-mechanical properties of the mint plant examined in different species were found to be statistically significant at the p<0.05 level and letter grouping was made according to the importance level.

  • The Importance and Development Process of Agro-Food Industry in Turkish
           Economy Abstract

    • Authors: Bektaş KADAKOĞLU; Bahri KARLI
Abstract: Agri-food industries are among the most important sectors in Turkey due to their positive impact on gross national product, employment, production, added value and exports. Approximately 30% of agricultural products in Turkey are processed in agri-food industries and brought to consumers. In developed countries, this rate is 60%. Thus, most of the agricultural products produced in Turkey are brought to consumers without creating added value, that is, without being processed in agri-food industries. The data of the variables in the study include the 2005-2020 periods. The share of agri-food industries within the total industry is 6.38% in terms of the number of enterprises, 13.38% in terms of employment, 16.94% in terms of production value, 13.04% in terms of added value, and 29.08% in terms of export value. As can be understood from these indicators, agri-food industries are of great importance in the Turkish economy. In this study, the current situation of agri-food industries in Turkey was examined and its importance was revealed.
