  • Integrating Computational Thinking and The Polya’s Model In Minecraft:
The Effects on Learners’ Fractions Achievement

    • Authors: Rayner Bin Tangkui
      Pages: 125 - 136
Abstract: There are few empirical research on the influence of incorporating computational thinking and Polya's Model in digital games on the academic achievement of students and the best ways for implementing this integration. Therefore, this quasi-experimental pretest and posttest non-equivalent group design research was aimed at determining the effect of integrating computational thinking and Polya’s model in Minecraft on students' fraction proficiency. Fifty-seven students from two intact classes were involved as the participants. The control group had 28 students, while the experimental group had 29 students. The findings revealed that the fraction achievement of the experimental group students increased as compared to students in the control group. It may be determined that studying fractions in Minecraft through the integration of computational thinking and Polya’s model had the best influence on student's academic progress. Thus, teachers should be able to incorporate it into other materials for learning mathematics.

  • Ethnomathematical Exploration of Traditional Agricultural Tools in
           Hutamanik Village, Sumbul Regency

    • Authors: Devi Syafitri Padang, Mara Samin Lubis
      Pages: 137 - 151
Abstract: This study explores using traditional farming tools in an ethnomathematics context in Hutamanik Village, Sumbul District. The research method used is qualitative, with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The collected data were analyzed with an ethnomathematics approach. Ethnomathematics in traditional agricultural tools can help people maintain local wisdom and strengthen cultural identity. The results showed that conventional farming tools, such as a water drum, coffee mill, sharpener, saw, hoe, and sickle, were used. Cultural, economic, and geographic factors influence the use of these tools. These tools contain mathematical concepts like measurement, comparison, and geometry. An ethnomathematics approach can be applied in learning mathematics to motivate students to learn mathematics because they can see that mathematics is related to everyday life. For this reason, it is suggested that future researchers explore ethnomathematics in different contexts.

  • Ethnomathematics Exploration of The Great Mosque of Al-Barkah, Bekasi
City, Through The Learning of Geometry and Transformational Geometry

    • Authors: Joko Soebagyo, Fadhilah Izzul Luthfiyyah
      Pages: 152 - 164
Abstract: Ethnomathematics is an understanding that makes culture a concrete form in constructing mathematical concepts. Ethnomathematics learning can help students improve their understanding of mathematical concepts and preserve Indonesian culture through an introduction to that culture. This research aims to investigate the symbolic meaning and ethnomathematics elements found in the Great Mosque of Al-Barkah. This research is qualitative research with a realist ethnographic approach. Data collection techniques were interviews, observation, documentation, and literature study. The study results prove that the Great Mosque of Al-Barkah has geometric elements (rhombuses and cuboids) and geometric transformations (reflections, rotations, and translations). Also, there are symbolic meanings in parts of the mosque. Thus, ethnomathematical elements were found in the mosque. The results of this discovery can be used as learning media and sample questions for learning mathematics at all levels of education (elementary, junior high school, and senior high school).

  • The Application of Ethnomathematics in Numeracy Literacy Perspective: A
           Literature Review

    • Authors: Jayanti Munthahana, Mega Teguh Budiarto, Atik Wintarti
      Pages: 177 - 191
Abstract: Numerical literacy skills in Indonesia remain inadequate, despite these skills being critical for problem-solving. This study aims to review recent ethnomathematics research in the context of numeracy literacy. The design of this study was a literature review using a qualitative descriptive analysis method, with fifteen accredited Sinta, Scopus, and international proceedings related to the use of ethnomathematics in the context of numeracy literacy. The data collection technique employed was a literature study. The results of this study show that the ethnomathematics context in Indonesia can be determined through indicators of mathematical activity and sub-elements in a social-cultural system. These concepts include numbers, geometry, measurement, algebra, data, and uncertainty. The results of numeracy literacy were found to vary in various studies. Thus, applying ethnomathematics can be an alternative to classroom learning to measure students' numeracy literacy abilities. This measurement can be used as a suggestion for further research.

  • Problems with Periodic Table Theory-Praxis in Chemistry Topics Teaching

    • Authors: Thabo Mhlongo, Thomas Dipogiso Sedumedi
      Pages: 192 - 205
Abstract: The two main chemical concepts that are the subject of this investigation are chemical bonds and related reactions. This research examines how the periodic table concept can help teachers improve science teaching. To help students understand the contents of the periodic table and the helpful information its settings provide students. This study looks at how teachers use the periodic table in class. The study focused on schools as a single case and adopted a qualitative methodological approach. Two physics teachers participated. It was found that according to teachers, the periodic table may impact how they use or ignore its use when teaching students about its content or as a framework for understanding material and chemical reactions. Therefore, the concept of the periodic table can help teachers improve the quality of teaching. There needs to be more in-depth research on the apparent relationship between teacher knowledge representation in chemistry and teachers' approaches to teaching using the periodic table.

  • Ethnomathematics Exploration of Fish Trader Activities in The Traditional
Market of Punggulan Village, Asahan Regency

    • Authors: Rini Angraini, Fibri Rakhmawati
      Pages: 213 - 226
Abstract: This study aims to explore the activities of fish traders in traditional markets by connecting mathematics and culture, known as ethnomathematics. The type of research used is qualitative research with an ethnographic approach. Data collection techniques used are library data, observation, and interviews. The data analysis technique refers to the Miles and Huberman model: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. This study found that the activities of fish traders in traditional markets were grouped into three processes: measurement, packaging, and buying and selling. The concepts found in these three activities are measurement, sets, one-variable linear equations, weight comparisons, social arithmetic, relations and functions, two-variable linear equations, flat-sided spaces, and probability. Thus, the activities of fish traders contain ethnomathematics elements which are simultaneously an application of mathematical theory learned at school. Further researchers are advised to examine the quality of ethnomathematics-based mathematics learning.

      Pages: 227 - 237
Abstract: This study aims to identify and analyze publications on the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model integrated with the integrated learning model in learning Natural Sciences (IPA) based on research journal articles from 2018 to 2023. The systematic literature review method followed the PRISMA diagram. Data were obtained from 476 national and international articles through Mendeley and Google Scholar. After the screening, 15 articles that met the inclusion criteria were found as samples. The analysis showed that integrated science learning with various models effectively improves student learning outcomes. The development of modules or learning tools can also improve students' abilities and religious characters through integration at every stage of learning. Integrated science learning models such as webbed, connected, nested, and shared have been tested and proved their effectiveness in improving student learning outcomes. However, further exploration is needed regarding integrating the PBL model with the integrated learning model to implement it with better innovation. This research is expected to contribute to the development of education in the future.

  • Ethnomathematics in Making Woven Fabrics in the Sipirok Community

    • Authors: Ika Milia Wahyuni Siregar, Fibri Rakhmawati
      Pages: 268 - 181
Abstract: Ethnomathematics is one method of learning mathematics that is expected to be another alternative that seeks to make students interested in learning mathematics. Besides being theoretical, ethnomathematics teaches how mathematics may be employed in real-world circumstances. This study aims to understand more about how mathematics is used in the production of traditional Sipirok woven fabrics. The author employed a qualitative research method in this study, and the data was gathered through observation, interviews, and recording. One of the weavers of Sipirok woven fabric provided the sample. According to the findings, there is mathematics in manufacturing Sipirok woven fabric, specifically in the loom used and woven fabric motif. Thus, ethnomathematics can support students' mathematics learning and aid in understanding the teacher's instruction. It is suggested that other researchers study Indonesian cultures that incorporate ethnomathematics, as many unexplored Indonesian cultures remain.
