Authors:Ibrahima Thiaw Pages: 7 - 28 Abstract: This article presents an assessment of the surface water resources of the Kayanga-Anambé hydrological complex, located in West Africa. This hydrological complex, one of the main characteristics of which is exclusively agricultural and pastoral, is subject to a changing climate and strong anthropogenic pressures leading to resource use conflicts. Therefore, a better knowledge of water availability is essential to guide policies for the management and adaptation of this geosystem. Two approaches are used to estimate the contributions from the different sub-watersheds of the Kayanga: (i) a correlation between the flow rates of Wassadou and those of the other hydrometric stations of the Management and Planning Unit (UGP) of Casamance and eastern Senegal – in particular for filling the gaps observed in the data series from the Wassadou, Niandouba and Vélingara Pakane stations – and (ii) the implementation of a rainfall-runoff modeling approach at monthly time intervals, with the GR2M model, to reconstruct seasonal flows and contributions from the Kayanga-Anambé-Lake Waïma complex. The results show correlation coefficients which vary from 0.24 to 0.96 depending on the stations, showing a strong relationship between the flow rates of the Kayanga at Wassadou and those of the other stations. The maximum correlation coefficient is noted at the Mako station (0.96), on the Gambia river. Furthermore, a Nash of 0.86 was obtained with the GR2M model. Thus, the parameters X1 and X2 of the model were used to reconstruct the seasonal flows and contributions from the Kayanga-Anambé-Lac Waïma complex. This made it possible to have long enough time series of flow rates for a better estimation of water resources and their temporal fluctuation. Authors:Hussain Ahmad Khaqan , Aamna Jabran , Hafiz Ateeq Ur Rehman , Atia Nawaz , Laraib Hassan , Muhammad Ali Haider , Muhammad Usman Zia , Ahmad Fauzan Pages: 29 - 34 Abstract: Purpose: To evaluate the problems of residents during their residency. Materials and Methods: To locate and assess all relevant literature, we employed systematic review as a search approach, utilizing punctilious and unambiguous methodologies. We initiated by stipulating key terms and selecting appropriate databases for your literature search. To find replicable and reportable publications from high-quality peer reviewed journals, we used Google Scholar, PubMed, and Research Gate. A manual literature search, snowballing, and obtaining expert advice were some of the other search tactics employed to find items of relevance. Conclusion: While working in residency, the residents experience a lot of problems like work place harassment, gender discrimination, insults, grueling working hours, poor infrastructure of training programs, struggling parenthood and lack of time to relax. These and many other personal issues affect the professional performance of the residents and in turn affect the treatment outcomes of the patients. As a conclusion, there must be healthy working relationships between the residents and their supervisors. There should be meetings at intervals which should focus on sharing the problems going on in the personal and professional lives of the residents and the issues that are affecting their work. The supervisors must consider the genuine issues and try to rectify them if possible. PubDate: 2023-10-05 DOI: 10.9734/jsrr/2023/v29i101793 Issue No:Vol. 29, No. 10 (2023)
Authors:Iwuoha E. C., Ufot I. P. , Onuabuchi T. F., Amogu C. C., Onuoha I. E., Ijoma C. E. Pages: 35 - 42 Abstract: Background: Early detection and diagnosis of illnesses by screening is a key public health premise. Breast self-examination is a cheap and convenient method of early detection of cancer of the breast, especially in resource poor countries; Women who frequently perform breast self-examinations (BSE) look for any lumps or abnormal changes in order to seek immediate medical assistance. There is increasing incidence of detection of breast cancer among young women, this has been attributed to a lack of knowledge and practice of breast self-examination (BSE). Aim: To determine the knowledge, and practice of routine breast self-examination among the female students of tertiary institutions in Abia State, Nigeria. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study conducted among 609 female students from five tertiary institutions in Abia State, Nigeria. Research instruments were structured, self-administered and pretested questionnaires. Data collected were analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS Version 25). Results: Majority of the participants were between the ages of 18-22 years. Majority of the respondents had heard of BSE (88.8%) mostly from social media (37.7%). A good number knew the steps involved in BSE (72.7%); while 467(76.7%) of respondents, had practiced BSE before. However, frequency of practice was low, and majority who didn’t practice frequently cited forgetfulness (38.5%) as their major reason. Most respondents agreed that BSE was very relevant (72.4%), and that families needed to be taught BSE (98.4%). Most respondents (81.3%) had no family history of breast lump while 87.8% had no family history of breast cancer. Occupation of respondents’ father was associated with knowledge of BSE and this was statistically significant; p< 0.05. Conclusion: This study demonstrates good knowledge, and good practice, however frequency of practice was low. PubDate: 2023-10-05 DOI: 10.9734/jsrr/2023/v29i101794 Issue No:Vol. 29, No. 10 (2023)
Authors:Haikal, M. G. Catur Yuantari , Enny Rachmani , Amelia Devi Putri Ariyanto , Jaka Prasetya , Slamet Isworo Pages: 43 - 50 Abstract: Background and Objectives: Efforts to use data to aid decision-making have not yet realized their full potential. The Faculty of Health, Dian Nuswantoro University (Udinus), has launched Semarang Health Data Repository - Udinus Campus (SEHARIKU) as a health data storage website in Semarang City. However, the public's use of SEHARIKU remains restricted, probably due to a variety of causes such as a lack of awareness of the presence of this site, a lack of information available on it, or features that are not optimal. The purpose of this study is to investigate user behavior on data storage websites. Methods: This research uses a user study approach with a descriptive research design using an online survey of SEhariku website users. The survey contains a series of questions regarding user behavior when using the SEHARIKU site, for 83 users on the SEHARIKU website. Results: The research results show that the majority of users have a low frequency of use, of which 51.8% of them 'rarely' access the SEHARIKU website, but the majority of respondents consider the search feature easy to use. Satisfaction with the graphic visualization features in SEhariku is high, with 92.3% of respondents stating they were satisfied or very satisfied. The majority of users also found the platform convenient for finding the data they needed, with 80.7% finding their searches easy. To increase the use and benefits of SEHARIKU, and overcome the low frequency of use, it is necessary to improve existing features such as the search feature, and intensify promotional efforts along with increasing awareness about the benefits of the website. Suggestion: Motivating users to actively provide input and recommendations for future development of SEHARIKU is very important. Authors:Innocent Boyle Eraikhuemen , Abraham Iorkaa Asongo , Adamu Abubakar Umar , Isa Abubakar Ibrahim Pages: 85 - 98 Abstract: The Gompertz-Lindley distribution is an extension of the Lindley distribution with three parameters. It was found to be more flexible for modeling real life events. The distribution contains two shape parameters and a scale parameter. Despite the necessity of parameter estimation theory in modeling, it has not been shown that a method of estimation method is better for any of these three parameters of the Gompertz-Lindley distribution. This paper identifies the best estimation method for the shape parameter of the Gompertz-Lindley distribution by deriving Bayesian estimators for the shape parameter of the distribution using two non-informative prior distributions (Uniform and Jeffery) and an informative prior (gamma) under squared error loss function (SELF), quadratic loss function (QLF) and precautionary loss function (PLF). These estimators were evaluated and the results compared with the maximum likelihood estimation method using Monte Carlo simulations with the mean square error (MSE) as a criterion for choosing the best estimator.
