- A proposal of indicators for the development of Brazilian scientific
research in the perception of specialists Authors: Fabio Aquino da Silva, Marcelo Jasmim Meirino, Mirian Picinini Mexas, Izabela Simon Rampasso Pages: 469 - 483 Abstract: This study proposes indicators that guide the induction, contraction and monitoring of scientific research whose funding source is government resources. The bibliographic research methodology enabled the mapping of a set of variables through the application of questionnaires to specialists and the use of the Fuzzy Delphi technique in order to analyze the selected variables selected validated by the specialists. The results identified 34 important indicators that can guide the induction, contracting, monitoring and results of scientific research to reduce any discrepancies in the analysis of research projects financed by organizations and instances that promote scientific research. Such validated indicators can serve as important public policy indicators to optimize the use of research resources. It is possible to conclude that the proposal favors the development of a research project management flow as reflected in the systematic use of indicators. - Role of transportation cost in housing affordability for the urban poor in
the metropolitan cities in India- a case of Lucknow Authors: Prabhat Kumar Rao, Arindam Biswas, Gaurav Singh, Tabish Ahmed Abdullah, Vaibhav Kulshrestha Pages: 484 - 494 Abstract: Housing affordability is conventionally measured by the thumb rule of 30% of monthly income spent on housing. This thumb rule does not consider location, transportation cost, or accessibility. However, if a residence is far away and requires expensive travel, it is not actually affordable. Multiple planning goals can be accomplished by increasing the availability of inexpensive housing in convenient places, including decreasing transport costs, improving economic opportunities for underprivileged groups, lowering accident risk, conserving energy, and lowering pollution emissions. An H+T affordability index is a tool that is recently developed by researchers to assess the overall cost of housing and transportation relative to household income for different locations in a city. Researchers have recently developed a metric called the H+T affordability index to assess the entire cost of housing and transportation relative to household income for various areas of a city. This analysis is used in the study of Lucknow, India. The results show that households in suburban areas spend more than 57% of their monthly income on housing and transportation than those living in central zones and they spend only 45% of their income on these expenses. This aligns with the findings of other urban regions' studies. This demonstrates the viability of housing and transportation affordability analysis to discover inexpensive and sustainable development in developing countries. - Factors affecting the delay of urban development investment projects: A
case of Vietnam Authors: Pham Xuan Anh, Tran Phuong Nam, Nguyen Quoc Toan, Hoang Duy Long, Bui Viet Thi Pages: 495 - 506 Abstract: The project implementation schedule is an important plan for every construction project, to reduce and control project delays. The implementation of urban development investment projects is increasing in terms of both quality and quantity as urban areas are rapidly developing in cities. However, many construction projects are scheduled but they are late from due time. As the number of urban development investment projects increases, understanding the causes of project delays will help project managers and stakeholders limit these delays. This paper investigates all those factors which are causing a delay in the development of urban investment projects These factors are further developed through expert knowledge elicitation using the Delphi method. Lastly, as based on the issues identified were run to determine how they affected project delays. Finally, a survey based on the issues identified factors was conducted to assess how they affected project delays. The linear regression model is used to analyze the results from the survey. The results of the study indicate that there are six main factors that cause the delay in the implementation of urban development investment projects in Vietnam, including Policy, Design, Cooperation, Implementation, Financing and Objective factors. The study's findings indicate that there are six primary groups of elements, including Policy, Design, Collaboration, Implementation, Finance, and Objective factors, that contribute to the delay in the execution of urban development investment projects in Vietnam. The study offers a research model for the factors that contribute to delays in the execution of construction projects for urban development. This finding can serve as a foundation for ideas on how to deal with this issue in Vietnam as well as a guide for similar works. - Payment behavior of Chinese online literature readers: The use of planned
behavior and social capital theories Authors: Lamu Zhuoma, Aweewan Panyagometh Pages: 514 - 524 Abstract: The Chinese online literature market is a developing market with great potential. The study discussed the influence of online literature readers' social capital on readers' planned behavior and aimed to understand the influencing factors of payment behavior among Chinese online literature readers. The researchers used random sampling and received 424 valid questionnaires. Based on the theory of social capital and planned behavior, this study constructed a structural equation model to analyze the data. The results showed that social capital positively affects attitudes, subjective norms and perceived behavioral control. Furthermore, attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioral control all have significant effects on intention. Intention can positively and significantly influence behavior. According to the research results, this study believes that to realize the payment behavior of Chinese online literature readers, online literature companies should provide more opportunities to acquire readers' virtual social capital, primarily relational social capital. At the same time, Chinese online literature companies should be aware of the necessary responsibility to design and build high-quality Chinese online literature platforms, establish a positive and healthy brand image, actively accept the state's and the market's supervision and establish a corporate strategy oriented by social responsibility. - Determinants of goodwill: Empirical study from emerging economies
Authors: Ancuța-Anisia Chelba, Anatol Melega, Veronica Grosu Pages: 525 - 537 Abstract: Goodwill is increasingly receiving the interest of investors, auditors and other users of financial statements, therefore the need for comprehensive information on this topic has grown over time. The aim of this article is to analyze the determinants of goodwill in companies from emerging economy countries. The research is structured in two stages. The first stage of the research consists of a bibliometric analysis of the literature that is focused on the goodwill topic. The second part of the research consists in building an econometric model in order to assess the determinants of goodwill based on data reported by firms in emerging economy countries in 2021, namely the data reported by 21,977 companies from 100 emerging economy countries, structured into 94 industries. The obtained results are represented by the development of an econometric model that shows the implications of net profit, Economic Value Added (EVA), Earnings before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization (EBITDA) and of research and development (R&D) expenses on goodwill fluctuations and vice versa. The results of our research highlight the fact that goodwill fluctuation is generated by the fluctuation of net profit, EVA, EBITDA and less by the R&D expenses. This study adds value to the literature by treating the subject differently, analyzing and evaluating the relationship between net profit, EVA, EBITDA, R&D expenses and goodwill. industry in India Authors: Vineet Chouhan, Sajid Ali, Raj Bahadur Sharma, Anjali Sharma Pages: 538 - 544 Abstract: The purpose of the study is to measure the impact of financial technology on the banking industry. Digital disruption has an impact on bank business models as well as conventional businesses as a result of changed customer behavior. This paper examines the impact of financial technology on the Indian conventional banking industry using a structured questionnaire filled out by 300 customers’ of a bank selected using simple random sampling. For hypothesis testing, the statistical technique of regression analysis is used.In order to identify the impact of financial technology on the banking industry, the value propositions that influence the adoption of financial technology or banking products are analysed using importance and usefulness criteria such as customer satisfaction, net promotion score, promotion, ease of use, etc. The results show that banks have been positively impacted by the use of financial technology as it can now enhance their value proposition which includes improved service quality, marketing and a wide range of merchants. The research has implications for the banking industry that can make the services easily accessible for customers and improve their value proposition. Furthermore, customers are aware that the banking industry uses financial technology which can make their work easier too. The literature in the field of financial technology is limited in terms of theory and the practical issues are being improved with easy adoption and proper marketing needs in the research. This will improve and guide future research in the same area. PubDate: 2023-04-26 DOI: 10.53894/ijirss.v6i3.1578 Issue No: Vol. 6, No. 3 (2023)
- A fast and effective approach for classification medical data sets
Authors: Ivan Ivanov, Borislava Toleva, Vincent James Hooper Pages: 545 - 552 Abstract: This study's objective is to offer a practical computer method for handling classification problems on large datasets. The aim of this study is to offer a practical computer approach for handling classification tasks on big datasets. We show that using Python’s built-in parameters to balance classes can improve the accuracy and the metrics of a classification task. We employ logistic regression, support vector machines, decision trees, and random forest classifier. We use the parameter “class_weight='balanced'” to run each classification model as well as stratified train/test splitting to ensure that relative class frequencies are approximately preserved in each train and set subsets. We use our methods on medical datasets because class imbalance is frequently a problem there. Our research shows that the proposed algorithms can improve the accuracy and classification metrics of the given medical datasets. We propose an effective and easy-to-apply alternative to improve the prediction ability of the presented classification models in medical datasets. We test an easily reproducible set-up where any classification model can be used to model imbalanced classes. The key tuning of the model lies in the stratified train/test split as well as the parameter “class weight='balanced'”. By combination of parameter tuning, better classification performance can be obtained in a quick and simple manner. It is simple and quick to replicate our algorithms to examine various medical datasets and determine which model best fits the data. It can be reproduced in biostatistical laboratories and by medical companies. Because it is simple to comprehend, medical researchers can swiftly review the information and determine the best course of action. - A study of factors causing math anxiety among undergraduate students
Authors: Altanchimeg Zanabazar, Amartuvshin Deleg, Magsar Ravdan Pages: 578 - 585 Abstract: Mathematics is a subject with numerous applications in everyday life but it is often viewed as difficult leading to math anxiety among students. This anxiety can limit students' career options and affect their success. To address this issue, we investigated the factors contributing to math anxiety among university and college students. This study focused on students from the National University of Mongolia (NUM) and the Mongolian State University of Education (MSUE). We used the Mathematics Anxiety Rating Scale questionnaire (A-MARS) developed in 1972 by Richardson and Suinn and conducted various statistical tests including factor analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis to analyze the data. Our results show that teacher-related factors have a strong negative correlation with math anxiety (β=-0.583) while family-related factors (β=-0.311) and student-related factors (β=-0.133) have weaker correlations. Possible explanations for these findings include inadequate teaching and professional skills, poor communication between students and teachers, heavy task loads and outdated resources. This study highlights the importance of these factors to reduce math anxiety and promote success in mathematics education. - Prevalence and impact of work-related musculoskeletal disorders among food
delivery riders in Eastern Peninsular Malaysia Authors: Elyas Ahmad, Aziah Daud, Suhaily Hairon, Rusli Nordin, Nor Azali Azmir, Mohd Azlis Sani Md Jalil Pages: 586 - 593 Abstract: Work-related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs) are currently a matter of concern in the occupational world, where it is the leading cause of disability among workers. Food delivery riders were among the neglected workers even though they were highly exposed to the WMSDs. Thus, this study aims to quantify the magnitude of WMSDs among the riders and the impact on their work. This was a cross-sectional study involving 191 food delivery riders in Eastern Peninsular Malaysia. The Standardized Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire (M-SNMQ), which was self-administered and validated for Malay translation, was used to quantify the prevalence of WMSDS based on various specific body regions. WMSD prevalence over a 12-month period was 74.9%. Upper back pain (UBP) (55.6%) and lower back pain (LBP) (73.3%) were the two most common body regions to experience WMSD symptoms. The least-complained body regions were thighs and feet, with a prevalence of 2.6% and 3.1%, respectively. The affected body regions that caused the highest daily life disturbance were the shoulders and knees, while those with shoulders symptom were more likely to be absent from work. Finally, LBP was the highest body region with at least a moderate pain score. In general, the findings should be a matter of concern among health authorities and others to improve the quality of life among the riders. To lower the prevalence of WMSDs among this understudied group, additional interventional research should be built on the findings of this study.
