  • Magnetic Separation of Micro Beads and Cells on a Paper-Based Lateral Flow
           System

      Abstract: Paper based lateral flow systems are widely used biosensor platforms to detect biomolecules in a liquid sample. Proteins, bacteria, oligonucleotides, and nanoparticles were investigated in the literature. In this work we designed a magnetic platform including dual magnets and tested the flow of micron size immunomagnetic particles alone and when loaded with cells on two different types of papers. The prewetting conditions of the paper and the applied external magnetic field are the two dominant factors affecting the particle and cell transport in paper. The images recorded with a cell phone, or with a bright field optical microscope were analyzed to measure the flow of particles and cells. The effect of prewetting conditions and magnetic force were measured, and it was shown that in the worst case, minimum 90% of the introduced cells reached to the edge of the paper. The paper based magnetophoretic lateral flow systems can be used for cell assays.

  • Discretization and Stability Analysis for a Generalized Type Nonlinear
           Pharmacokinetic Models

      Abstract: Estimating the effects of drugs at different stages is directly proportional to the duration of recovery and the duration of pulling through with the disease. It is very important to estimate the effects of drugs at different stages. For this reason, solving Pharmacokinetic models which investigate these effects are very important. In this study, numerical solutions of one, two, and three-compartment nonlinear Pharmacokinetic models have been studied. Distributed order differential equations have been used for the solution. Numerical solutions have been found with the density function contained in distributed order differential equations and different values of this function. A nonstandard finite difference scheme has been used for numerical solutions. Finally, stability analyses of equilibrium points of the obtained discretized system have also been researched with the help of the Matignon criterion.

  • Recommendations for Improvement of the Thermal Performance of an Office
           Building Based on Retrofitting the Glazed Curtain Wall

      Abstract: Glazed curtain wall systems have become indispensable particularly in office buildings due to their light weight, aesthetic appearance, easy installation, and resistance to climate conditions. Curtain walls, however, also have problems in terms of thermal efficiency because of their wide, glazed windows and metal frames that have high thermal conductivity. The aim of this study is to offer proposals for improving the thermal performance of an office building with a glass curtain wall system built in a hot-humid climate zone. An office building constructed in Antalya, Turkey was modelled with the help of DesignBuilder energy simulation software, and various modifications were made to the model in order to improve the thermal performance of the building. With the improvements proposed in the study, it is possible to decrease the annual thermal loads of the whole building by 6.6%, and the annual thermal loads of the space with the curtain wall by 33.2%. The study revealed that applying an additional skin is more effective than lowering the U-value of the glass of the curtain wall in terms of thermal performance improvement.

  • Alternative Support Material to Platinum Catalyst Used for Oxygen
           Reduction Reaction: Nonporous Carbon

      Abstract: In this study, unlike porous carbon as a conventional catalyst support material in fuel cells, nonporous carbon was synthesized in the presence of different HCl concentrations (0.2 M-1 M) and investigated as a support material for platinum (Pt) catalysts in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). Since the micropore volume of the synthesized carbons is negligible, the detected surface areas with Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method were between the range of 19-23 m2/g. Among the support materials, the carbon-supported Pt catalyst synthesized in the presence of 1 M HCl was investigated electrochemically in terms of hydrogen oxidation (HOR) and ORR half-cell reactions in the three-electrode system. The Pt catalyst supported with nonporous carbon, synthesized using 1 M HCl, reached the maximum limiting current value of -1.2 mA/cm2 (@1600 rpm, 5 mV/s) at ORR hydrodynamic curves. Low internal and charge transfer resistances of the same catalyst in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) analysis are attributable to its nonporous structure.

  • The study on QSAR and relations between molecular descriptors of 5,
           8-quinoline quinones derivatives

      Abstract: The electronic, hydrophobic and global reactivity parameters of modeled 28 different 5,8-quinolinequinone derivatives have been calculated using DFT (B3LYP)/6-31G(d,p) method and basis set. The molecular descriptors are chosen molecular polarizability, dipole moment, frontier molecular orbital energy, molecular volume, ionization potential, electron affinity, electronegativity, molecular hardness, molecular softness, electrophilic index, molar refractivity, octanol–water partition coefficient, entropy and capacity of heat. The relations between molecular descriptors have been investigated dependent on their correlations. QSAR/QSPR models have been derived for anti-proliferative and anti-inflammatory activity of these 5, 8-quinolinequinone (s) derivatives. The dependence of the electronegativity parameter on both electronic and thermochemical parameters is found to be the best correlated parameter.

  • Review of the Definition of Weld Penetration, Depth of Fusion and Throat
           Thickness on Fillet Welds

      Abstract: In this study, definitions of Weld Penetration (WP), Depth of Fusion (DOF) and Throat Thickness (TT) in fillet welds according to related standards are evaluated. Each standard makes its own definition related to WP, DOF and TT. Moreover, when looking at these standards, it is seen that definitions are always made in terms of unit of length. In many studies, assessment of fusion or penetration (FOP) rate on fillet welds is performed as the ratio of the maximum FOP depth to the material thickness. Depth assessment taking into consideration unit of length is not ideal for accurate evaluation of FOP rates especially on fillet welds. In the evaluation made in terms of unit of length, FOP rate can be approximately 50 percent more than the evaluation made in terms of unit of area. Method taking into consideration unit of area will be more suitable as it allows accurate assessment of FOP rates in welded joints. In this review, in addition to evaluation of the definitions of standards, it is also suggested that the evaluation of FOP rate on fillet welds should be determined in terms of unit of area rather than length.

  • An Adaptive Time Filtered Backward Euler Method for Reduced-Order Models
           of Incompressible Flows

      Abstract: This paper studies a reduced-order model based on proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations. The difficulties resulting from nonlinearity are eliminated using the variational multiscale (VMS) method. The time filter is added as a separate post-processing step to the standard VMS-POD approximation. This increases the accuracy and presents a better energy preserving scheme without adding additional computational complexity. The stability and error analyses of the method are provided, and results of the several numerical tests are presented to verify the efficiency of the method in this setting.

  • Locational Characteristics and Impact of Attenda Abattoir, Ogbomoso,
           Nigeria

      Abstract: The study examined the locational characteristics and impact of attenda abattoir, Ogbomoso town, Oyo State, Nigeria. To achieve this, a ring of a 100-meter radius was delineated around the abattoir, and a landuse inventory was done. Thereafter, observation and measurement were done daily in the abattoir for a month, excluding Sundays. To assess the impact of the abattoir, water samples were obtained from Point of Discharge (POD) of wastewater to the stream, 30 meters, 60 meters and 90 meters on the course of the stream. Also, samples were obtained from a well each, found within 30 meters, 60 meters, and 90 meters from the abattoir. The water samples were, among others, tested for pH Conductivity and Lead. Obtained data were subjected to descriptive statistics such as frequency count and percentage. Tables were also used to summarise data. The closest landuse to the abattoir is a 40 km stream with a setback of 2.6 meters. This setback is used as a waste dump. In the abattoir, an average of 19 cows are killed daily. For this operation, an average of 1153.7 litres of wastewater is generated and discharged into the nearby stream. Hence the pH value of the stream is 5.20, 5.35, 5.41 and 5.40 respectively at POD, 30 meters, 60 meters and 90 meters. Also, the concentration of Lead (Fe2+) in water samples is higher than Federal Environmental Protection Agency (FEPA) limits of 0.01mg/l. The study, among others, recommends relocation of abattoir and urban renewal of abattoir area.

  • Robust Spoofed Speech Detection with Denoised I-vectors

      Abstract: Spoofed speech detection is recently gaining attention of the researchers as speaker verification is shown to be vulnerable to spoofing attacks such as voice conversion, speech synthesis, replay, and impersonation. Although various different methods have been proposed to detect spoofed speech, their performances decrease dramatically under the mismatched conditions due to the additive or reverberant noises. Conventional speech enhancement methods fail to recover the performance gap, hence more advanced techniques seem to be necessary to solve the noisy spoofed speech detection problem. In this work, Denoising Autoencoder (DAE) is used to obtain clean estimates of i-vectors from their noisy versions. ASVspoof 2015 database is used in the experiments with five different noise types, added to the original utterances at 0, 10, and 20 dB signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). The experimental results verified that the DAE provides a more robust spoof detection, where the conventional methods fail.

  • Radioactivation Measurement of a Protective Collimator and Comparisons
           with Simulation After METU-Defocusing Beamline Pretest Irradiation

      Abstract: Electronic components must be tested to allow for safe and reliable missions in radiation environments. The METU Defocusing Beamline (METU-DBL) was installed in the R&D room at the Particle Accelerator Facility (PAF) of Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mineral Research Agency (TENMAK). This facility was established in accordance with the European Space Agency (ESA), European Space Components Coordination (ESCC), No: 25100 standard to conduct proton irradiation tests for electronic components and various materials to be used in the space environment. METU-DBL uses beam elements such as quadrupole magnets to amplify the beam and collimators to reduce the flux, as per the specifications of the standard.A pretest setup was constructed, and this system was operated for a total of 17 hours for three months before the METU-DBL final design was assembled. The first protective collimator is made of stainless steel 316L and was used during the period of pretests. As a result of these irradiations, the emerged radioisotopes in the collimator were observed and measured in situ with a NaI detector. These measurements were compared with the FLUKA simulations 120 days after the last irradiation. Among fourteen radioisotopes, only six of them with activity above 1.0×101 Bq/cm3 were matched.

  • Investigation of Hydrogen Diffusion Profile of Different Metallic
           Materials for a Better Understanding of Hydrogen Embrittlement

      Abstract: In this study, hydrogen diffusion profiles of different metallic materials were investigated. To model hydrogen diffusion, 1D and 2D mass diffusion models were prepared in MATLAB. Iron, nickel and titanium were selected as a material of choice to represent body-centered cubic, face-centered cubic, and hexagonal closed paced crystal structures, respectively. In addition, hydrogen back diffusion profiles were also modeled after certain baking times. Current results reveal that hydrogen diffusion depth depends on the microstructure, energy barrier model, temperature, and charging time. In addition, baking can help for back diffusion of hydrogen and can be utilized as hydrogen embrittlement prevention method. Since hydrogen diffusion is very crucial step to understand and evaluate hydrogen embrittlement, current set of results constitutes an important guideline for hydrogen diffusion calculations and ideal baking time for hydrogen back diffusion for different materials. Furthermore, these results can be used to evaluate hydrogen content inside the material over expensive and hard to find experimental facilities such as, thermal desorption spectroscopy.

  • Effect of Pressure on Electronic, Mechanical and Dynamic Properties for
           Orthorhombic WP

      Abstract: The structural, mechanical, electronic and dynamic features of MnP-type WP have been presented under 0-50 GPa hydrostatic pressure utilizing density functional theory. The lattice constants, values of volumes and bond lengths have been decreased with increasing pressure. It has been found that results of electronic band structures show that WP preserves its metallic feature under pressure. It has been observed that electronic band structures shifted up in Y–Γ and Γ–X symmetry points under pressure. The partial density of states indicates that hybridization occurs between W-d and P-p orbitals and also W–d orbital is dominated at all pressures. It is obtained that the mechanical properties of WP are increased with increasing pressure. Additionally, WP becomes more ductile under pressure. According to phonon dispersions, it has been investigated that WP is dynamically stable under pressure applied.

  • Ascorbic Acid Enhances the Metabolic Activity, Growth and Collagen
           Production of Human Dermal Fibroblasts Growing in Three-dimensional (3D)
           Culture

      Abstract: Tissue engineering (TE) enables the development of functional synthetic substitutes to be replaced with damaged tissues and organs instead of the use of auto or allografts. A wide range of biomaterials is currently in use as TE scaffolds. Among these materials, naturally sourced ones are favorable due to being highly biocompatible and supporting cell growth and function, whereas synthetic ones are advantageous because of the high tunability on mechanical and physical properties as well as being easy to process. Alongside the advantages of synthetic polymers, they mostly show hydrophobic behavior that limits biomaterial-cell interaction and, consequently, the functioning of the developed TE constructs. In this study, we assessed the impact of L-Ascorbic acid 2-phosphate (AA2P) on improving the culture conditions of human dermal fibroblasts (HDFs) growing on a three-dimensional (3D) scaffold made of polycaprolactone (PCL) using emulsion templating. Our results demonstrated that AA2P enhances the metabolic activity and growth of HDFs as well as collagen deposition by them when supplemented in their growth medium at 50 µg/mL concentration. It showed a great potential to be used as a growth medium supplement to circumvent the disadvantages of culturing human cells on a synthetic biomaterial that is not favored in default. AA2P's potential to improve cell growth and collagen deposition may prove an effective way to culture human cells on 3D PCL PolyHIPE scaffolds for various TE applications.

      Abstract: Feature selection is a dimension reduction technique used to select features that are relevant to machine learning tasks. Reducing the dataset size by eliminating redundant and irrelevant features plays a pivotal role in increasing the performance of machine learning algorithms, speeding up the learning process, and building simple models. The apparent need for feature selection has aroused considerable interest amongst researchers and has caused feature selection to find a wide range of application domains including text mining, pattern recognition, cybersecurity, bioinformatics, and big data. As a result, over the years, a substantial amount of literature has been published on feature selection and a wide variety of feature selection methods have been proposed. The quality of feature selection algorithms is measured not only by evaluating the quality of the models built using the features they select, or by the clustering tendencies of the features they select, but also by their stability. Therefore, this study focused on feature selection and feature selection stability. In the pages that follow, general concepts and methods of feature selection, feature selection stability, stability measures, and reasons and solutions for instability are discussed.

  • Sintering of Iron Powders by Resistance Heating Technique

      Abstract: In this study, powder metal samples of 15x15x4 mm dimensions of Fe powders were produced at different pressures (650,850,1050 MPa). They were sintered in atmospheric environment with the help of resistance sintering method applied for the first time using electric resistance welding machine. The sintered and green densities of the powder metal samples were determined and their sinterability in the unprotected environment was examined. In addition, the effects of electric resistance heating technique on sintering were investigated by performing hardness measurement and microscopic examination of sintered samples. As a conclusion, powder metal samples were sintered successfully with the electric resistance welding technique in an unprotected environment and high-density values such as 98% were obtained.

  • Bootstrap Approach for Testing More Than Two Population Means with Ranked
           Set Sampling

      Abstract: In this study, hypothesis test is investigated based on Bootstrap sample selection methods to compare more than two population means under Ranked Set Sampling. Bootstrap sample selection methods are obtained by adapting Hui’s sample selection methods for confidence interval. We also compare these adapted methods with bootstrap simple random sampling and bootstrap ranked set sampling methods using simulation study. Simulation study shows that adapted methods which proposed in this paper perform quite well.

  • Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Supplementation Enhance Skin
           Antioxidant Capacity in Hyperglycemic Rats

      Abstract: The fundamental reasons for delayed wound healing in diabetic animals include inadequate production of growth factors or their increased devastation. Vascular Growth Factor (VEGF) has a biological role in the healing process of mucosal and skin wounds, especially in the process of new vessel formation. We planned to examine the oxidant-antioxidant events that occur during healing with topical VEGF application in diabetic rats. Experiments were performed 36 adults female Wistar albino rat diabetes induced by streptozotocin. The incisional wounds were made on the dorsal region in the rats. Rats were separated to 3 groups: the untreated (negative control) group (n=12), the chitosan group (n=12), the chitosan + VEGF group (n=12). The treatments were continued for 3 and 7 days, excluding the control and negative control groups. Then, the animals were sacrificed on the 3rd and 7th days of wound healing. Antioxidant and oxidant parameters in skin tissue were measured using biochemical methods. Topical VEGF application was decreased the NOx levels on the 3rd day compared to other groups. Moreover, it increased wound tissue GSH and AA levels, subsequently contributing to the enhance tissue antioxidant capacity. In conclusion, VEGF application increases the antioxidant capacity of the tissue and simultaneously reduces the oxidative stress and thus gives a positive acceleration to the wound healing process.

  • Phytochemical Screening and Antibacterial Activity of Lignosus
           rhinocerotis (Cooke) Ryvarden Grown in Open Field and Indoor

      Abstract: Lignosus rhinocerotis (Cooke) Ryvarden, known as tiger milk mushroom is a rare and valuable medicinal mushroom that is widely used throughout Southeast Asia and South China for treating several ailments. This study was conducted to screen the phytochemicals present in L. rhinocerotis (Cooke) Ryvarden sclerotium grown from two different environments, open field and indoor, and evaluate the antibacterial activity. In this study, phytochemical screening of ethyl acetate and methanolic extract of L. rhinocerotis (Cooke) Ryvarden sclerotium were done using various chemical tests to identify the compounds present in the extracts. All the extracts were then tested for antibacterial activity against three different bacteria including Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa at the concentrations of 20 and 30 mg/mL using disc diffusion method. Based on the phytochemical screening result, extracts of L. rhinocerotis (Cooke) Ryvarden demonstrated the presence of steroids, terpenoids, alkaloids, and flavonoids. The antibacterial assays revealed that the ethyl acetate extracts from open field and indoor cultivations exhibited moderate activities against S. aureus at 30 mg/mL with the values of the inhibition zone being 13.3 ± 0.67 mm and 11.0 ± 0.58 mm, respectively.

  • Classes of Population Mean Estimators using Transformed Variables in
           Double Sampling

      Abstract: Transformation techniques have been used to increase the efficiency of estimators in sample surveys. In this paper, some classes of population mean estimators using transformation on an auxiliary variable and on both the auxiliary and study variables have been proposed under double sampling. The proposed estimators’ biases and mean square errors are approximated up to the first order. A simulation study and application to a rubber production dataset have been used to illustrate the proposed estimators’ performance. The results show that they perform much better than other existing estimators under given conditions.

  • Providing homeland security strategies against interdictions in the city
           transportation network: A case study in Turkey

      Abstract: This study defines a capacitated multiple-source multiple-sink shortest path problem and introduces its extension, called the capacitated multiple-source multiple-sink shortest path network interdiction problem (CMSSNIP). CMSSNIP examines the actions of attackers who attempt to maximize the total shortest path of network users trying to reach the crime locations for the aid process after causing an incident in certain regions to provide strategic information for the defense systems of the government. In this context, the exact mathematical model is proposed to ensure useful information about safe routes to network users. In this manner, to the best knowledge of authors, the CMSSNIP consisting of multiple-source nodes and multiple-sink nodes and considering capacity-demand relations between security units and crime locations is studied for the first time. Consequently, a set of scenarios is considered based on the levels of the interdiction budget and the number of crime locations through a real case application to show the applicability of the model. Furthermore, computational experiments are performed to evaluate the performance of the model in networks of different sizes. It is realized that the model provides resilient strategies against interdictions in terms of obtaining the safe shortest paths at the operational level within seconds in the real case applications.

  • A Robust Numerical Approach for Singularly Perturbed Problem with Integral
           Boundary Condition

      Abstract: In this research, the numerical integral method procedure on uniform mesh is used to solve the singularly perturbed problem which has integral boundary value. This method also includes the trapezoid method, the finite difference method, and the Thomas algorithm. The problem is converted to finite difference problem by using finite difference approximations and trapezoid method. Finally, the convergence of the presented method is analyzed through sample application. Thus, the correctness and sufficiency of the method are shown.

  • Investigation of Sinterability of WC-Co Component Comprising of AISI 4340
           Steel Inserts

      Abstract: In this study, sinterability of WC-9% Co component with AISI 4340 steel insert was investigated using Inserted Powder Injection Molding (IPIM) method. Sintering experiments were performed at temperatures of 1200 °C to 1350 °C with dwell times of 120, 240, 360 min. Defects such as gaps, cracks and macro-porosities were observed in specimens, sintered at temperatures of 1200 °C and 1250 °C for all dwell times. It was proved that sintering temperature of 1350 °C was as high as it caused insert to get deformed and melted. As a result, the optimum sintering temperature and dwell time were determined to be 1300 °C and 240 min, respectively, at which the highest hardness, compression strength, and sintered density were obtained without any defects such as cracks or gaps.

  • Parametric Examination Anisotropic Thermal Resistance of MIL Composites

      Abstract: Metallic-intermetallic laminate (MIL) composites possess intermediary properties emerging from the different laminates used. They are anisotropic since their properties are direction-dependent. The laminates used in a MIL composite have different thermal conductivities and this results in anisotropic thermal resistance. In a recent study, using the composite dimensions and the electrical conductivity of the laminates used to make the MIL composite, the electrical resistance of rectangular prism-shaped MIL composites for different directions is examined. Since thermal and electrical circuits are analogs, a similar analysis can also be done for thermal conduction quantities. In this study, using the composite dimensions and the thermal conductivity of the laminates used to make the MIL composite, the thermal resistance of rectangular prism-shaped MIL composites for different directions is calculated and its direction-dependent parametric examination is carried out.

  • CO Methanation Over SAPO-34 Supported Ni Catalysts

      Abstract: This study investigated carbon monoxide methanation with 15 %NiO doped SAPO-34 zeolite-supported catalysts. The SAPO-34 support was produced by hydrothermal synthesis, and nickel oxide was added to the support by impregnation and surfactant-assisted impregnation method, dissolved in different solvents (water, ethanol, acetone, and 1-propanol). Various characterization techniques, N2 physisorption, XRD, SEM, TEM, and FTIR, were used to determine the physical properties of catalysts. XRD analysis showed that synthesizing the catalysts with surfactant reduced the crystallite size. The average crystal sizes of the catalysts synthesized using the impregnation and surfactant-assisted impregnation methods are between 11.3-7.1 nm and 8.9-7.1 nm, respectively. The N2 physisorption analysis showed that the catalysts with the surfactant assisted impregnation method had higher surface areas among the catalysts produced by the two different preparation methods. It was observed that the surface area of the catalyst increased as the boiling point of the solvent increased. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis exhibited that the particle size of the catalysts with 1-propanol prepared by impregnation and surfactant-assisted impregnation methods are 118 nm and 86 nm, respectively. According to the results, surfactants cause to produce smaller particles. The CO methanation studies showed that the highest CO conversion values were reached with Ni/SAPO-34 catalyst using 1- propanol prepared by impregnation and other method, which gave 19.2% and 21.1% CO conversion to methane at 375C, respectively. The low methane formation rates showed that most of the CO component was adsorbed on the surface, and some were converted to methane.

  • A Hybrid Algorithm for Flow Shop Scheduling Problem with Unavailable Time
           Periods and Additional Resources

      Abstract: In the scheduling literature, the studies that consider unavailable periods (UPs) have generally ignored the resources. However, when the resources to be used in unavailable periods are limited and these resources are needed for more than one machine at the same time, the problem of when the resource should be allocated to which machine arises. This decision is important as it can greatly affect the effectiveness of the machine schedule. For this reason, it is necessary to consider not only the UPs, but also the resources used by the UPs. In this study, flow shop scheduling problem with unavailable periods, flexible in a time window, and additional resources is discussed. In the considered problem, since additional resources are required during the unavailable periods and they can serve just one machine at a time, they cannot overlap. A MIP model and a hybrid algorithm that genetic algorithm and modified subgradient algorithm works together, have been developed for the considered problem. The performance of the hybrid algorithm is compared with pure genetic algorithm and Cplex solver of GAMS by using randomly generated test problems. Test results showed that while hybrid algorithm has solution quality advantage, genetic algorithm has solution time advantage. In addition, with the developed hybrid algorithm, GAMS results were improved up to 88%.

  • Natural Language Processing Challenges and Issues: A Literature Review

      Abstract: Natural Language Processing (NLP) is the computerized approach to analyzing text using both structured and unstructured data. NLP is a simple, empirically powerful, and reliable approach. It achieves state-of-the-art performance in language processing tasks like Semantic Search (SS), Machine Translation (MT), Text Summarization (TS), Sentiment Analyzer (SA), Named Entity Recognition (NER) and Emotion Detection (ED). NLP is expected to be the technology of the future, based on current technology deployment and adoption. The primary question is: What does NLP have to offer in terms of reality, and what are the prospects' There are several problems to be addressed with this developing method, as it must be compatible with future technology. In this paper, the benefits, challenges and limitations of this innovative paradigm along with the areas open to do research are shown.

  • A literature review: Wind energy within the scope of MCDM methods

      Abstract: Renewable energy sources (RES) are vital for environmental sustainability. With the depletion and damage of fossil fuels to nature, energy production from clean and inexhaustible RES has become widespread. Wind energy, one of the RES, is a clean energy source that does not emit any harmful waste to the environment. Wind energy is a low-cost energy source that is mostly used for electricity generation. Criteria such as wind speed, turbine structure and the characteristics of the areas where the wind turbines will be located are effective on the amount of energy to be produced. In this study, a comprehensive review of the studies using MCDM methods related to wind energy is made. In the manner of the statistical data obtained from the 97 studies examined, it has been observed that the wind energy investments and the scientific publications made in these countries do not progress linearly with each other. The fact that countries have different wind energy potentials and the difference in the countries' interest in RES is thought to be effective in this regard. While there are articles in the literature in which studies on RES are discussed together with MCDM methods, there is no comprehensive review study in which wind energy and MCDM methods are discussed together. According to our best knowledge, this is the first study to comprehensively evaluate wind energy studies in terms of MCDM methods. With this study, a framework has been presented for subsequent studies on the application of MCDM methods in wind energy.

  • Analytical Modeling of Buckling of Carbon Nanotubes Reinforced
           Sandwich-Structured Composite Shells Resting on Elastic Foundations

      Abstract: Sandwich-Structured Composites (SSCs) are widely used in lightweight construction, especially in the aerospace sector, due to their high specific stiffness and strength. Therefore, it is important to develop their quality by using new techniques. Today, nanotechnologies offer new perspectives for the reinforcement of construction materials. This paper assumes that the reinforcement of the sandwich shell is performed by CNT reinforced face sheets with a uniform or Functionally Graded (FG) distribution of CNTs. The effective properties of the Carbon Nanotubes Reinforced Sandwich-Structured Composite (CNT-RSSC) shells are calculated using the rule of mixture. This study presents novel exact analytical formulas to predict the critical buckling load of the CNT-RSSC shells resting on elastic foundations based on Donnell cylindrical shell theory. These analytical formulas provide the most meaningful answer because we get an equation showing us exactly what happens with each variable. The effects of various parameters on the buckling stability of the RSSC shells are examined.

  • Investigation of the Interaction of Adipose-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells
           with ε-Polycaprolactone and Egg White Scaffolds

      Abstract: The development of three-dimensional (3D) cell culture models is becoming increasingly important due to their numerous advantages over conventional monolayer culture. This study aimed to examine the interaction of adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) with scaffolds composed of ε-polycaprolactone (ε-PCL) and egg white. In our study, ε-PCL and egg white scaffolds were produced from their monomers by tin octoate catalyzed and heat polymerization, respectively. Characterization of ε-PCL was carried out by Gel Permeation Chromatography (GPC), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrophotometry (FTIR), Proton Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (H-NMR), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). AD-MSCs labeled with red fluorescent CellTracker CM-DiI were cultured on egg white and ε-PCL scaffolds for 12 days. Cell viability was determined using 3-(4.5-Dimethylthiazol-2yl)-2.5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) and nitric oxide (NO) level was evaluated for toxicity. The results showed that the number of AD-MSCs in the egg white scaffold increased periodically for 12 days compared to the other groups. Although the number of AD-MSCs in the ε-PCL scaffold increased until day 6 of the culture, the number of cells started to decrease after day 6. These results were associated with the toxic effect of lactic acid release on cells resulting from the decomposition of ε-PCL scaffolds through catabolic reactions. Therefore, these results indicated that the egg white scaffold enhanced and maintained cell adhesion and cell viability more than the ε-Polycaprolactone scaffold and could be used as a scaffold in tissue engineering studies involving stem cells.
