  • A Scientific Approach to Hrematonyms: Lexico-Semantic Approach to The Tv
           Series Names

    • Authors: Gülşah PARLAK KALKAN
Abstract: The Turkish meaning of the term hrematonimi, which is a comination of the Greek hrema meaning “goods, object, product, work” and onima meaning “name” is work onomastics. Hrematonimi, is an important branch of onomastic that evaluates names from a linguistic or socio-cultural perspective; It is a branch of science that studies the names given to literary works such as poems, stories and novels written by poets and writers. In our country in the field of work onomastics, it is seen that the studies are made mostly on written works, although their number is low. However, it is essential to evaluate every aspect of the language used in this platform, as the mass media depending on the increasing technological developments covers all areas of life and television is the most common mass media tool that can be seen in almost every environment in today's world. In addition, it is a known fact that the most important tool that individuals are affected by making decisions on almost every issue in daily life is the TV series. In this respect, in the study in question, the names of the series, which were broadcast on the most watched channels on the basis of ratings, from the 1990s to 2020 on ATV, Fox, Kanal D, Kanal 7, Show TV, Star TV and TRT 1 channels, were classified in terms of their lexical-semantic. Thus, the way in which series naming is expressed in the language is described. For the study, a total of 576 serial names, compiled from the websites of the relevant channels, were evaluated on the basis of the lexical-semantic made by İbrahim Şahin regarding the place names in the work of Adbilim; the classification was reinterpreted in line with the data of the current study. The findings of the study show that the Turkish language used when naming serials continues to be strongly associated with the history of culture.

  • Main Terms in The Disaster Management Cycle

    • Authors: Sümeyye KAHRAMAN; Erkan POLAT, Burak KORKMAZYÜREK
Abstract: Disasters are one of the biggest problems of the 21st century. Since disasters are seen as a structure that must be dealt with all over the world, many models/cycles have been put forward for its solution. The generally accepted main cycle is; risk and damage reduction, preparedness, response, recovery and reconstruction. The terms used in this cycle express what needs to be done before, during and after the disaster, but studies on which term is prioritized and why or where it should/should be included in the terminology are insufficient. Therefore, the aim of the study is to define the terms with their origins and definitions: "risk, risk assessment, hazard, threat, exposure, vulnerability, reduction, prevention, preparedness, risk management, disaster, catastrophe, response, recovery, crisis management”. The aim is to clearly reveal the etymological and semiological relationship between the terms and at what stage they should be used by examining them together. The Turkish origins of the terms to be examined were taken from Etimology Turkish, Nişanyan Sözlük, English origins from Online Etymology Dictionary and Merrıam-Webster. AFAD and UNDRR dictionaries have been taken as the basis for the definitions of terms, and many sources have been used for other definitions of meaning in the international literature. As a result of the study, it has been revealed that the origins of the terms in the disaster cycle and their meanings used today overlap.

These terms are very important in technical, commercial and academic communication, from paper and cardboard wood to printed product in the forest. There is no paper terms dictionary published in our country.            Urban Green Space

    • Authors: Ünal AKKEMİK; Muhibe Aslı ALP, Orhan SEVGİ, Mert EKŞİ
Abstract: Many terms have been developed, defined and classified according to these definitions regarding green areas, which have significant effects on the quality of life, visuality and sustainability of a city. Due to the intertwined areas in the definitions, some contradictions have emerged. The aim of the paper is to address the terms used in relation to urban green spaces one by one, to simplify their definitions and calculation, to eliminate the parts that cause confusion, and to facilitate the work of the implementing units. For this purpose, all green space terms published and used in calculation were discussed one by one and suggestions were presented. In this context, the term "urban green space" has been proposed for all active and passive green spaces used by the people of the city, and active and passive green spaces have been defined as more understandable and easily calculable by the practitioners.
