  • RELATED ANALYSIS ACCORDING TO THE "FEMALE BODY AS OBJECT" IN THE CONTEXT
           OF FASHION AND ADVERTISING

    • Authors: Nurgül ERGÜL GÜVENDİ
Abstract: In this article, it is aimed to reveal the relations of the use of the female body as an object in terms of fashion and advertising sector according to the periods. For this purpose, the history of advertising and the fashion industry were divided into periods and a comparative analysis was made. The data collection method in the research was the general survey model, and the feminist theory and critical theory were used in the analysis of the data. According to our research results, it is seen that the female body is brought to the forefront as a sexual tool in both advertising and fashion sectors in almost every period examined. One of the common features between the fashion and advertising industry is the identification of striking colors (pink, red) with women for sexual connotations. It can be said that the positioning of the female body in the advertising sector is much more flamboyant, assertive and pornographic approaches compared to the fashion sector. Although there is a criticism of the commodification of women in terms of the message given in the approaches in the fashion and advertising sector to criticize the ideal female body perception after 2000, it actually causes women to remain on the agenda with similar issues.

  • Shams al-Dīn al-Samarqandī's (D. 722/1322) Criticism of The
Philosophers: An Analysis in The Context of The Hudūs Theory

    • Authors: Ömer SADIKER
Abstract: The problem of the truth and origin of the universe is as old as the history of thought. Humanity has engaged in intense mental activities to discover the universal phenomena and events to which it belongs and which it has always faced. As a matter of fact, the philosophical questioning about the existence of the universe; It will serve important purposes such as making life more meaningful for humanity, solving the problems encountered and comprehending the purpose of life. In the tradition of Islamic thought, various views have been put forward regarding the God-universe relationship or the way the universe came into being through God. In this direction, Islamic philosophers, the theory of emanation, which states that the universe is necessarily derived from God; The Sufis reduce the universe to the absolute existence of God, and the theory of unity of existence, which establishes unity between God and the universe; Theologians, on the other hand, devised the hudûs proof, which states that the universe is an entity that was created in space-time by the will of Allah and is immune from the divine essence. We will examine the God-universe relationship within the framework of the three schools mentioned above. The Kalam tradition, as an important founding element of the Islamic thought system, engaged in serious intellectual activities to discover the universe and its source. The theologians, who placed the substance-accident theory on the basis of their natural philosophies, made the universe the subject of research in terms of reaching their metaphysical goals. As a method, the ore-ahaz theory played an active role in solving many theological problems. One of the problems solved by the theologians through the ore-ahaz method is the hudûs of the realm.

  • The Medial and Final (CCC) Consonant Clusters in the Loanwords of Turkish:
           Is It an Illusion'

    • Authors: Semra BATURAY MERAL
Abstract: Known as a language which strictly follows its phonotactic constraints showing low tolerance for the exceptions, Turkish employs a variety of phonological processes in the adaptation process of the foreign words into the language so as to make the phonologically improper loan words obey with the phonotactic and phonological constraints of the language. As one of these constraints, Turkish forbids the adjacency of three consonants (CCC) in the simplex forms given that CCC implies morphological complexity on the phonological string. However, there are still a number of foreign words with medial and final CCC clusters adapted to Turkish such as bandrol ‘banderol’, semptom ‘symptom’, portföy ‘portfolio’ and kuvartz ‘quartz’. Based on these observations, the aim of the present study is to investigate the appearance of CCC clusters in Turkish words, which are adapted to Turkish from foreign languages. In this regard, we claim that CCC in simplex words are only an illusion and there is no violation of phonotactic constraints. Accordingly, we argue that Turkish has three basic strategies in order to avoid CCC clusters while adapting the foreign words. As the first strategy, Turkish prefers the realization of a vowel following the initial CC as in /bandɯrol/ (i). The second strategy Turkish applies is to adapt the word which has a CCC cluster with only CC: e.g. /semtom/ and /kuvarz/ (ii). As the third option, certain adapted words with CCC clusters are stored in the mental lexicon as if they had a complex morphological structure port-föy (iii). We will give an account for these strategies in the light of government, licensing and constituent structure analyses.

           Primary School Principals

    • Authors: İmam Bakır ARABACI; Fatma GÜZELGÖRÜR, Rukiye ÇEVİK SEVER, Osman KELEPÇE, Akif SEVER
Abstract: This research aims to examine the primary school principals’ opinions with respect to the Teaching Profession Law. The study has been carried out by means of the phenomenological research, one of the qualitative research methods. Interviews have been conducted with school principals working at different primary schools using the interview form developed by the researchers. The study group of the research consists of 14 school principals working at different primary schools in Kovancılar and Karakoçan districts of Elazığ province in 2022-2023. Research data has been collected through a semi-structured interview form. The collected data has been analysed using the content analysis method. The school principals’ opinions regarding the Teaching Profession Law are grouped under three themes: the scope of the law, its shortcomings, its contribution to the competence and competency of teachers, and suggestions. As a result of the research, it has been found that some school principals favour the Teaching Profession Law due to considerable improvements it has introduced to service conditions and personnel rights, while some school principals criticize the law for not making any improvements or developments in career adjustments and personnel and social rights. While the school principals think that increasing salaries through professional career stages will have a positive contribution, it may also cause conflicts and discrimination between teachers, parents and school administrators, which will lead to a negative situation. The school principals have stated that it would be appropriate to make some arrangements in terms of service conditions in the Teaching Profession Law.

  • Achievement Test Development Study for Middle School Students Related to
           Geoscience Subjects

    • Authors: Güneş KESKİN ÇEVİK; Hikmet SÜRMELİ
Abstract: This study aims to develop a valid and reliable test to measure the conceptual knowledge of secondary school students about geoscience subjects in science education. Before the test questions were prepared, the learning outcome lists were created, and it was seen that the learning outcome lists in the MEB science curriculum were limited (insufficient). For this reason, the list of learning outcomes has been expanded by taking into account the geoscience achievements of the countries that have been successful in international exams and have access to science education programs. In order to ensure harmony between the questions in the test and the learning outcome lists, a table of specifications was created and the opinions of teachers and field experts were consulted. The pilot study of the test was conducted with 48 students and the test was finalized. The Geoscience Achievement Test was administered to 187 seventh-grade students. The KR20 reliability coefficient of the test results was found to be .810. With the item analysis, the mean item difficulty and discrimination indexes of the test were calculated as 0.556 and 0.411, respectively. These results show that valid and reliable results were obtained with the developed Geoscience Achievement Test. It is aimed that the developed test will contribute to the field of science education and be used in future research on the subject. It is believed that with this test, teachers will have the opportunity to measure the knowledge levels of their students on the acquisitions of geoscience subjects and to organize learning activities accordingly.

  • Adaptation of Sabahattin Ali's 'Hasan Drowned' Story to A2 Level in
Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language

    • Authors: Ayşe BAŞKAPAN; Talat AYTAN
Abstract: Using the texts in their original form in groups where the language level is beginner or intermediate may negatively affect the self-confidence of the student and discourage the student's enthusiasm for learning that language. In this context, it may be useful to organize the texts according to the language levels of the students instead of using them as they are. Students who read adapted texts can enjoy the aesthetic pleasure of that language. The student who discovers the aesthetics in the language likes that language more, so the enthusiasm for learning increases. In order to transfer these functions of the language to second language learners, the need to simplify literary works and adapt them to student levels has arisen. In this sense, making the simplification closest to the original text and preserving the message that the text wants to give will both enable the student to understand the text better and improve the aesthetic taste of the language. The subject of the research is the simplification of Sabahattin Ali's story "Hasan Boğuldu", within the framework of coherence and cohesion, which are among the textlinguistic criteria within the framework of the European Common Paper for A2 level students learning Turkish as a foreign language. The aim of this study is to contribute to the simplification of literary works and the need for text in Teaching Turkish as a Foreign Language. The study was conducted to support the development of reading comprehension skills for learners of Turkish as a foreign language. In addition, it is aimed to be used at the point of eliminating the lack of resources in the area. The application of the study was implemented in two classrooms at the A2 level, an language center in Istanbul. The simplified text was read in the classroom and the original text was read in another classroom, and the differences between the two classes were determined. Students were first asked to fill in the first part of the application consisting of demographic questions. With these questions, it was aimed to determine the student profile and to determine whether there is a relationship between profiles and text comprehension studies. Before the text is read, a brief information about the text was given, and it was requested to answer the preparatory questions consisting of matching the visuals of the text with the words. In the last part, the application was completed by reading the text and asking the text questions to be answered. The application measures whether the simplification is successful or not, and its effect on students' reading comprehension skills. The obtained data were analyzed using Spss 25 statistical program. According to the findings, it was determined that the achievement score of the experimental group in which the adapted text was read was higher than that of the control group in which the original text was read.

  • The Effect of Context-Based and Collaborative Learning Approaches on
Secondary Students' Sensitivity to Biotechnology and Biosafety

    • Authors: Aysun GÖCÜK; Fatma ŞAHİN
Abstract: Biotechnology offers great potential to meet critical needs for food, agriculture, health and sustainable socio-economic development. At the same time, biotechnological applications include potential biological hazards for human and environmental safety. For this reason, risk assessment should be done before biotechnological applications are put into practice. It should be made commercially available after it has been proven to be safe. The international community manages biotechnological risks through biosecurity. Biosecurity awareness of the society is provided by biosecurity education. Addressing biosecurity-related problems during education improves students' knowledge, skills and attitudes. There are limited national and international studies on biosecurity, which is very important for the society. This study was conducted to contribute to this aim. The problem statement of the study is whether context-based learning and cooperative learning approaches have an effect on the sensitivity of 8th grade students to biotechnology and biosecurity or not. The quasi-experimental method was used in the study. The study was conducted with two experimental groups without a control group. Biosafety training experimental group 1 was given context-based learning approach and experimental group 2 was given cooperative learning approach. The study group of the research consisted of 44 students, 22 in the experimental group 1 and 22 in the experimental 2 group. The research lasted a total of 20 lesson hours in 10 weeks. Data were collected with the Biotechnology and Biosafety Sensitivity Questionnaire developed by the researchers. According to the results obtained, it has been found that both context-based and cooperative learning methods are effective in developing sensitivity towards Biotechnology and Biosecurity.

  • Religious Responsibility in Catholicism

    • Authors: Aybike ÇAĞLAR
Abstract: People's thoughts and lifestyles have always been influenced by the times they live in. Many things change in life from one age to the other, or from one generation to the next, and these changes have an impact on many concepts in life. Religion, which is an important part of many people's lives, is one concept that has gotten its share from change. As a result, the question is whether people's adherence to religion changes with the change in time. The goal of this thesis is to see if generational differences have an impact on how religious activities are carried out. With Christianity as the world's largest religion and Catholicism as its major sect, this thesis specifically aims to reveal if Catholics continue to fulfill their religious responsibilities in every generation and if there are any differences between generations in this regard. The hypothesis put forth by this thesis is that there is a decrease in the fulfillment of the religious practices among Catholic Christians in each new generation. To test this idea, data was collected from several surveys and a comparison between generations was made. This hypothesis was confirmed correct in general, although with some exceptions, by demonstrating that the older generations are more likely to be practicing in most of the sacraments compared to the younger generations. However, some generations tend to be more practicing than the previous generations in some specific sacraments; yet, the statement claiming that the execution of this specific practice decreased from the oldest generation until the youngest generation stands rightful. Thus, keeping this exception in mind, the claim should be that the fulfillment of religious responsibilities decreases over time, especially among the youngest generations.

    • Authors: Seren GÜVEN; Selim Hilmi ÖZKAN
Abstract: Media has always been a power every political figure wish to possess. The most important reason for political figures wish to keep media under their control is to guide and keep the public opinion in favour to themselves to remain in power and to be able to continue their ruler ship. Especially in electoral period, political figures target to make good relations with media in order to gain power in the political arena which will grant them to have authority on public. Media campaigns have always taken place as a key to determine the government and balance of political power. Just as in every other country, politicians in power and the opposition try to engage media power to change the voting behaviour, weaken the rivals, gain sympathy and manipulate the perception management in Türkiye as often as desired. In this context, during election of 1950 Demokrat Party used every elements of media power with media campaigns such as press conferences and kept good relations with media which finally led them become the ruling party. This is first and an important example of media effect on elections in Turkish Political history and due to this success media is mentioned as “fourth estate” in politics now.
