  • Necesidad de detener el deterioro del nivel de enseñanza en las
           Universidades Estatales

      Abstract: El actual escenario en que actúan las universidades estatales chilenas es insostenible. Estudiar en universidades privadas, públicas no estatales y públicas estatales, económicamente hablando, da lo mismo, porque los estudiantes tienen que pagar su educación universitaria y, en casos significativos, endeudarse para conseguir ese derecho. Las universidades del Estado de Chile se subvencionan mayormente por el pago de los estudiantes (sea que incluyan becas u otros incentivos por rendimiento o por situación económica). Así, los estudiantes pasan a ser “clientes” que hay que retener casi “como sea”. La universidad, dado ese escenario, no se puede permitir ser muy selectiva, ya que eso pone en riesgo el número de “clientes” y ello podría traducirse en una merma en el número de integrantes de la “cartera de clientes” y como consecuencia de ello el flujo de caja sufriría las consecuencias en sistemas contables frágiles que deben “apalancar” recursos bajo presión permanente. Aquello condena a las casas de estudios superiores a sobrevivir en un sistema con un Estado mínimo que deja todo en manos del mercado y a una competencia feroz entre ellas por captar, en lo posible, a los mejores estudiantes/puntajes.

  • El pensamiento latinoamericano en la novela histórica chilena del siglo
           XIX (Nineteen century latin-american thinking in chilean historical novel)

      Abstract: El presente artículo tiene como propósito mostrar cómo algunas de las principales ideas sustentadas por destacados intelectuales latinoamericanos acerca de cuestiones como la identidad y el proceso de construcción de las nuevas naciones americanas, se plasman en la novela histórica, particularmente en las que ficcionalizan la historia de la Quintrala.Para ello, se revisan obras como Facundo, de Domingo F. Sarmiento, donde el autor expone la tesis de “civilización y barbarie” que tendrá gran impacto en el pensamiento latinoamericano del siglo XIX y en la novela histórica; y el estudio histórico-social Los Lisperguer y la Quintrala (Doña Catalina de los Ríos y Lisperguer), de Benjamín Vicuña Mackenna, donde la familia Lisperguer y la Quintrala devienen representación de una oscura colonia chilena caracterizada por el abuso de poder, el oscurantismo religioso medieval y la venalidad de los servidores públicos: este estudio viene a influir prácticamente en todas las obras que tienen a la Quintrala por personaje principal; Ariel y Nuestra América de José Enrique Rodó y José Martí, respectivamente, cuyas ideas validan lo latinoamericano, aunque el segundo desde una perspectiva mucho más americanista; por último, Todo Calibán, de Roberto Fernández Retamar que reivindica la figura de Calibán, en el hombre americano, robado y colonizado, como un símbolo del hombre americano. Las ideas de estos pensadores cobrarán vida en la nueva novela histórica.A través de una lectura analítica de las novelas históricas chilenas: La belleza del Demonio La Quintrala de Antonio Bórquez-Solar y La Quintrala de Magdalena Petit y Maldita yo entre las mujeres de Mercedes Valdivieso, se concluye que las dos primeras son herederas del pensamiento de Sarmiento y de Vicuña Mackenna, pues en ellas la Quintrala es expresión de la Barbarie y del oscurantismo colonial chileno, en la forma de una mujer poseída por el demonio o de una “bruja”, y que la última, junto con reivindicar la figura de doña Catalina de los Ríos y Lisperguer, y del hombre americano, se apoya, principalmente, en las ideas de Martí y Fernández Retamar. De este modo, la nueva novela histórica supera el positivismo y naturalismo eurocéntrico y asume una postura más comprensiva de la realidad y la cultura latinoamericana. AbstractThe following review intends to give an account of the main ideas put forward by prominent Latin-american intellectuals on issues of identity and the construction of new American nations after obtaining independence from Spain. These ideas can be found throughout many historical novels, where they are vivified thanks to literary fiction.This review considers authors such as the Argentinian Domingo F. Sarmiento and his novel Facundo, where he presents his famous “Civilization and Barbarism” thesis, of great influence on Latin-american thought and historical fiction during the nineteenth century. Also considered is Chilean author Benjamin Vicuña Mackenna and his socio-historical study on the Lisperguer family and La Quintrala, in which the Chilean colonial period is characterized by the abuse of power by Chile’s high class families, medioeval religious obscurantism and the venality of public servers. His work will influence every depiction of La Quintrala in future historical novels. José Enrique Rodó of Uruguay in Ariel, and José Martí of Cuba in Nuestra América (Our America) put forward ideas that validate a Latin-american identity, though the later puts a much heavier focus on americanism. Finally, cuban Roberto Fernández Retamar –in his Todo Calibán– puts forward the figure of Calibán as the american man, sacked and colonized.To carry out this study, both an analytical reading of the listed bibliography and an interpretative intertextual analysis of the same have been performed. We have concluded that Antonio Borquez’s chilean novel La Belleza de Demonio, La Quintrala (The Beauty of the Devil, La Quintrala) represents Sarmiento’s thought, being La Quintrala the expression of Barbarism, and, at the same time, also represents Vicuña Mackenna’s colonial obscurantism, in the form of a possessed woman who expresses herself through lust and ferocity. In Magdalena Petit’s canonical historical novel La Quintrala, the protagonist is again expression of Sarmiento’s Barbarism and Vicuña Mackenna’s ideas through the “witch”. Also, in Mercedes Valdivieso new historical novel Maldita yo entre las mujeres (Cursed Am I Amongst All Women), the author vindicates Catalina de los Ríos y Lisperguer as a woman in the flesh, and not as a mythical figure, reason by which it represents also the vindication of the american subject, as presented by Martí, and the Calibán, as put forward by Fernández Retamar. In this way, the new historical novel allows the voices of the defeated to emerge and offer new visions and perspectives.

  • Estudio preliminar de aproximación al concepto de límite de una función
           (Preliminary study approach to the concept of limit of a function)

      Abstract: Este trabajo presenta una investigación sobre el concepto de límite de una función en un punto. Dicho estudio ha merecido a través del tiempo la atención de diversos investigadores. La razón para ello radica en su importancia, la que junto con la Derivada y la Integral constituye la tríada básica del Cálculo. El objetivo final del estudio es poder generar conocimiento didáctico que permita la elaboración de Actividades Didácticas para los estudiantes, de modo tal que ellas contribuyan a una mejor comprensión de dicho concepto. Para dar respuesta al objetivo anterior, se elaboró un cuestionario, el cual se aplicó a 20 profesores de Matemáticas del ámbito universitario del país (Chile). De su aplicación se obtuvo respuesta a asuntos como: si consideran importante el concepto de límite y cuáles son las dificultades más comunes sobre su enseñanza, entre otras. A continuación, otra fuente de la investigación estuvo centrada en el análisis de los textos de Cálculo que han sido usados para su enseñanza, lo anterior permitió develar aspectos como: la importancia que le dan al concepto y cuál es la forma de abordarlo, esto es, qué aproximaciones usan para su presentación. Como consecuencia pudieron materializarse actividades didácticas de aprendizaje. Uno de los recursos usados en ellas corresponde al uso del software Winplot. AbstractThis paper presents an investigation into the concept of limit of a function at a point. This topic has received attention of many researchers during decades, the reason for this lies in its importance, along with the Derivative and Integral as the basic triad of Calculus. The ultimate goal of the study is to generate knowledge to the educational development of Teaching Activities for students, so that they contribute to a better understanding of the concept. To meet the above objective, a questionnaire, which was applied to 20 mathematicians teaching at universities in our country (Chile) was developed. In response to the above mentioned inquest, this study approaches to important questions, ie., if considered important the concept of limit and what are the common pitfalls on their teaching, among others. Then another source of research focused on the analysis of the texts of calculus that have been used to teaching. The above allowed revealing aspects as: the importance given to the concept and what is the way to approach it, that is, what approaches used for presentation. Following these studies and appealing to the teaching experience in this subject, this study materialized Learning Activities could materialize. One of the resources used in this item was the Winplot software.

  • Humedales construidos con plantas ornamentales para el tratamiento de
           materia orgánica y nutrientes contenidos en aguas servidas (Constructed
           wetlands with ornamental plants for removal of organic matter and

      Abstract: Los humedales construidos es una tecnología viable para tratar aguas servidas en el sector rural debido a su bajo costo de operación y simplicidad en el manejo tecnológico. Además es importante destacar que la eficiencia en la eliminación de materia orgánica y nutrientes es de hasta 95% y 60%, respectivamente. Sin embargo, la mayoría de investigaciones se han centrado en la funcionalidad de plantas comunes tales como, Phragmites spp., Typha spp., Schoenoplectus spp. Pese al amplio uso de estas especies, es importante evaluar la utilización de especies ornamentales tales como, Zantedeschia aethiopica, Canna spp. e Iris spp. para aumentar a esta tecnología los beneficios ambientales y paisajísticos.Debido a lo antes indicado, el objetivo de este trabajo es realizar una revisión bibliográfica que muestre la factibilidad de usar humedales construidos de flujo subsuperficial plantados con especies ornamentales para la eliminación de materia orgánica y nutrientes contenidos en las aguas servidas.Preliminarmente es posible indicar que las plantas ornamentales han mostrado una eficiencia de eliminación de materia orgánica medida como Demanda Bioquímica de Oxígeno a los 5 días (DBO5)variando entre 70 y 93%, mientras que en el caso de los nutrientes, la eliminación de Nitrógeno Total (NT) varía entre 45 y 73%y de Fósforo Total (PT) entre 40 y 80%.Debido a estos valores de eliminación, es posible concluir que los humedales construidos con plantas ornamentales pueden realizar un tratamiento de las aguas servidas en condiciones similares a las presentadas por plantas comunes. Sin embargo, las plantas ornamentalesentregan un valor estético al entorno, junto a un posible beneficio económico para la población usuaria del sistema. AbstractConstructed wetlands are a viable sewage treatment in rural areas because of its low cost of operation and simplicity in management technology. Moreover it is noteworthy that the efficiency of removal of organic matter and nutrients is up to 95% and 60%, respectively. However, most research has focused on the functionality of common plants such as Phragmites spp., Typha spp., Schoenoplectus spp. Despite the widespread use of these species, it is important to evaluate the use of ornamental species such as, Zantedeschia aethiopica, Canna spp. and Iris spp., because this technology to enhance the environmental and landscape benefits.Due to this, the aim of this paper is to make a review that shows the feasibility of using subsurface flow constructed wetlands planted with ornamental species for the removal of organic matter and nutrients in sewage.Preliminarily, it is possible to indicate that the ornamental plants have shown an efficiency of removal of organic matter measured as Biochemical Oxygen Demand after 5 days (BOD5) varying between 70 and 93%, while in the case of nutrients, removal of Total Nitrogen (NT) varies between 45 and 73%, and Total Phosphorus (TP) between 40 and 80 %. Because ofthese, itcan conclude that the constructed wetlands with ornamental plants can treat a sewage in similar to those presented by common plant conditions. Moreover, ornamental plants delivered an aesthetic value to the environment, with potential economic benefit to the users of the system.

      Abstract: En el proceso de acomodación de los migrantes en las sociedades de tránsito o acogida, resulta relevante analizar la articulación de redes migratorias. Esta inquietud surge de considerarlas un factor de movilidad social relevante, aunque también se toma en cuenta una serie de limitaciones de contexto que afectan a sus interrelaciones. Este trabajo se dedica primero en discutir algunos aspectos del concepto de redes migratorias centrándose tanto en su definición prescriptiva como en su funcionamiento. A continuación indaga en un caso concreto de articulación de redes migratorias a partir de la experiencia de la Pastoral de Migraciones de Iquique. La discusión profundiza en aspectos teóricos de las redes referidos a sus alcances, limitaciones y trayectorias espaciales. AbstractIn the process of accommodation of migrants in transit or host societies, it is important to analyze the articulation of migration networks. This concern arises from considering it an important factor of social mobility, although a number of limitations context that affect their interrelationships are also taken into account. This paper is first devoted to discuss some features of the concept of migration networks focusing on both its prescriptive definition and in its operation. Then, a particular case of joint migration networks from the experience of Pastoral Migration Iquique is investigated. The discussion explores into theoretical characteristics of networks relating to its scope, limitations and spatial trajectories.
