Authors:Miyanda Petty, Arifa Patel Pages: 11 - 21 Abstract: Hypertension (HTN) is a major precipitating factor for cardiovascular diseases, kidney disease and stroke. Despite the intensive use of pharmacological agents, a rise in poorly controlled hypertensive cases has been observed due to the underutilization of therapeutic lifestyle changes (TLC) treatment approach. Objective of the study is to assess the knowledge, practice and attitudes of women towards lifestyle therapeutic modifications regarding hypertension among women in a third world country in Lusaka locality in 2019. A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on a sample size of 116 women. Descriptive and inferential statistics were utilized for data analysis. Results shows excessive weight gain (91.4%) and alcohol consumption (87.1%) were prevalent risk factors for hypertension. (58.6%) correctly explained the meaning of hypertension. Majority (53.4%) of the participants were not knowledgeable about excessive alcohol consumption and smoking being risk factor. Significant associations between education level and knowledge on excessive weight, smoking and excessive salt intake (P values < 0.05) risk factors were noted. Excellent knowledge levels (53.4%) were recorded. Regular exercise (81%) was the prevalent practiced lifestyle modification. Most participants felt that TLC did not matter provided one was on anti-hypertensive drugs. However, majority (62.1%) had an acceptable attitude towards lifestyle modification regarding hypertension. Conclusion of the study shows participants had a fairly good understanding about hypertension and showed a positive towards lifestyle changes. Despite this, therapeutic lifestyle practices were average. The researchers are of the opinion that novel approaches are inevitable in middle income countries to aid patients in the application of their knowledge on therapeutic lifestyle changes. Authors:Mohammad Asif Pasha Pages: 22 - 26 Abstract: Gurukul pupils are more well-behaved and well-organized. In school, the importance is given to adhering to a well-defined timetable and routine. Pupils in this class are more attentive and have more concentration capacity than other students. This improves their ability to concentrate utilizing methods like meditation. Learning the Vedas, Brahmanas and Upanishad was the primary method of education in the ancient world. Sources of knowledge included medical treatises by Charaka and Sushruta. The ancient education system had two sources: the Vedic and the Buddhist. The Vedas, Vedanta’s, and Upanishads served as the primary teaching tools in the Vedic educational system. 1500 BC to 600 BC was the span of time in which this occurred. From the time of the Rigveda forward, India's ancient education system evolved and emphasized on the holistic development of a person by taking care of both their inner and exterior selves, making it recognized across the world. Throughout India's gurukuls, Macaulay freed the use of English, and he condemned the Indian gurukuls. Teachers of gurukuls were Britishers, and the gurukuls were set on fire. An examination of Indian history's ancient schooling system is the focus of this study PubDate: 2023-01-07 Issue No:Vol. 12, No. 2 (2023)

Authors:Iyanda Kamoru Ahmed Pages: 27 - 30 Abstract: This paper discusses the socio-cultural functions of folklore in 21st century, Nigeria. Every society no matter its technological advancement employs one form of folklore or the other consciously or unconsciously. The transmission of folklore into writing and print does not obliterate its legality as folklore; rather, it makes it stronger and helps in diffusing it among those whom it is not nature or essential. Folklore is a vibrant standard of communication and transmission. Hardly can societal philosophy or culture survive without the help of the folklorist. It is therefore, safe that folklore occupies a great part of a people’s culture. Although folklore is believed to be as old as the human race, it is created by people, for itself and reflects their pattern of thought, reflection and behaviors. Authors:Ankita Sharma Pages: 31 - 34 Abstract: E-learning or learning and teaching that is supported and facilitated by the use of technology, is currently used extensively in all areas of education, including medical education. The purpose of this narrative review is to introduce the idea of e-learning and to discuss its value and application in Indian medical education. The majority of students and faculty, according to experience, are in favour of integrating e-learning alongside traditional learning because the benefits outweigh any potential discomfort. E-learning will unquestionably have a significant impact on how future medical students learn. According to theory, the gradual adoption of e-learning will encourage more medical educators to assume the roles of facilitator and competency assessor by encouraging the application of adult learning theory. It's interesting to note that despite the fact that most medical students find e-learning to be rewarding and efficient, they do not consider it to be a substitute for traditional didactic methods. In a blended approach, e-learning frequently supports instructor-led methods. Studies on nursing and medical students show that a blended learning environment consistently results in greater student satisfaction than a traditional lecture setting. Although there is frequently little difference between the two pedagogical approaches, there is no correlation between this satisfaction and test scores. The function of blended learning in medical education requires further study. PubDate: 2023-01-07 Issue No:Vol. 12, No. 2 (2023)
