  • YOLO-SDD: An Improved YOLOv5 for Storm Drain Detection in Street-Level

      Abstract: Abstract Urban drainage pipe system is an important part of city management. Automated detection of the status of storm drain in street-level images through current technologies in computer vision and AI is an important aspect of smart city construction. In this paper, a framework based on YOLOv5s for storm drain detection (YOLO-SDD) in street view is proposed. By analyzing the characteristics of small-scale targets, YOLO-SDD focuses on optimizing the Backbone network and its loss function. Series of experiments demonstrated that in the task of detecting different states of storm drain under various environmental conditions, the mean average precision (mAP@.5) of the YOLO-SDD can reach 89.6%, increasing by 2% compared with the baseline model YOLOv5s. In the presence and absence of occlusion, the average precision of storm drain detection increased by 0.9% and 3.1%, respectively. In addition, the effectiveness and generalization ability of YOLO-SDD were further validated using the storm drain dataset of Urbana-Champaign (SDUC) from Illinois, USA, and the dataset for object detection in aerial images (DOTA). Finally, this work has deployed the YOLO-SDD on the Android system, which verifies its ability of real-time detecting storm drain in different states in street scenes.

  • Influence of Water-Solid Interaction and Surface Charge on Thermal
           Resistance Length

      Abstract: Abstract Understanding the particle behavior at the solid-liquid interface and regulating the interfacial thermal resistance is the key to solving the chip heat dissipation problem at extreme heat flux. To this end, non-equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations were used in this study to investigate the effects of water-solid interactions, surface charges, and static structure factors on the thermal resistance length. The number density and temperature profiles show that both water-solid interaction and surface charge determine the density and temperature distribution of the liquid in the system, and there is a competitive relationship between them. The temperature gradient, jump and thermal resistance length were calculated. We found that the thermal resistance length decreases with the increase of the interaction and surface charge mainly because of the drastic change in temperature jump. In particular, enhancing the water-solid interaction can reduce the thermal resistance length from 263.5Å to 114.6Å by a maximum of 56.5%, while increasing the surface charge can reduce the thermal resistance length from 263.5Å to 46.7Å by a maximum of 82.3% in the scope of this study. Moreover, it is found that the static structure factor is related to the solid-liquid interaction and the surface charge. For atomic-scale solid-liquid interfaces, the heat transfer performance can be optimized by increasing the peak value of the static structure factor to reduce the thermal resistance length. The findings in this study provide guidance for future studies to evaluate the possible solutions to improve the heat transfer performance of the solid-liquid interface, such as reducing the interfacial thermal resistance, and promoting its application in chip heat dissipation.

  • Improved Artificial Rabbit Optimization Algorithm Fused with Particle
           Swarm Optimization for Wireless Sensor Network Coverage Optimization

      Abstract: Abstract Aiming at the problem of low node coverage during node deployment in wireless sensor network (WSN), an improved artificial rabbit optimization algorithm incorporating particle swarm optimization (ARO-PSO) is proposed for network coverage optimization. ARO-PSO successfully combines the stochastic characteristics of ARO and the global characteristics of PSO. Firstly, to optimize the quality of the initial population, Sine chaos mapping is introduced to initialize the population; secondly, to better balance the exploration and exploitation, adaptive settings are made; finally, combined with the characteristics of the ARO energy factor, a population decreasing strategy is introduced to further accelerate the convergence speed of the algorithm. Experimental and analytical comparisons are made with ARO and PSO and 6 other excellent optimizers on 13 benchmark functions. The results show that ARO-PSO largely outperforms the original algorithm. Finally, ARO-PSO is applied to WSN coverage optimization experiments in 2D and 3D environments, and the proposed algorithm exhibits higher network coverage and improves the monitoring quality of the network compared to standard ARO and PSO and other state-of-the-art algorithms. The experimental results fully demonstrate the superiority of the ARO-PSO-based WSN node deployment optimization method.

  • YOLO-VSF: An Improved YOLO Model by Incorporating Attention Mechanism for
           Object Detection in Traffic Scenes

      Abstract: Abstract Intelligent transportation and autonomous driving systems have made urgent demands on the techniques with high performance on object detection in traffic scenes. This paper proposes an improved object detection model YOLO-VSF over the YOLOv4 model, which is a representative work with excellent performance among YOLO series of object detection models. The main improvement measures include: The backbone feature extraction network CSPDarknet53 of YOLOv4 is replaced with VGG16 to improve the feature extraction capability; SENet attention mechanism is incorporated to improve the salient and correlation feature representation capability; Focal Loss is integrated into the loss function to overcome the sample imbalance problem. In addition, the detection performance of small targets is improved by increasing the resolution of input images. Experimental results show that on the VanJee traffic image dataset provided by Beijing VanJee Technology Co., Ltd., the proposed YOLO-VSF model achieves an average mean accuracy (mAP) of 92.21 percentage points, which improves the mAP by 3.04 percentage points compared with the YOLOv4 model while maintaining the detection speed of the original model. On the UA-DETRAC dataset, the average accuracy of YOLO-VSF is close to that of the latest YOLOv7 model with the number of parameters reduced by 1.329 × 107. The proposed method can provide a support for object detection in traffic scenes.

  • Interference Detection Method for Eye Tracking System in External
           Radiation Therapy

      Abstract: Abstract In the process of external radiation therapy, eye movements need to be detected in real time using an eye tracking system. The complex eye tracking system may interfere with the treatment radiation beam, so it is necessary to build a system model to detect possible interference and ensure that the input dose to the diseased site is as expected. Firstly, the scene needs to be modeled, and the control robotic arm and its end structure are modeled using the Denavit-Hartenberg (D-H) parameters. The interference detection is implemented using the Gilbert-Johnson-Keerthi algorithm and the detection results are displayed using the Godot engine, while the simulation scene built in Simscape using the same model is compared and verified. The results of the two simulations are compared under the condition that the robot arm is in the initial position, and the incident rays are at different angles, respectively, proving the effectiveness of the D-H parametric modeling and the interference detection algorithm.

  • Design and Experiment of 2D Rectangular Solenoid Transmitting Coil for
           Novel Gastrointestinal Capsule Robot

      Abstract: Abstract A two-dimensional rectangular solenoid transmitting coil is proposed to address the problem that the three-dimensional receiving coil occupies excessive space inside the capsule robot. The transmitting coil consists of two pairs of rectangular solenoid coils distributed radially along the human body. By changing the direction of current flow, it can generate a two-dimensional magnetic field covering the whole central plane. Firstly, the working mechanism of the wireless power transfer system is introduced, and then the spatial electromagnetic field generated by the transmitting coil is analyzed through both mathematical calculations and finite element simulations. Finally, an experimental platform is built to determine the optimal resonant frequency of the system and validate its feasibility based on the power transfer efficiency and the receiving power. The experimental results demonstrate that when the receiving coil is located at the center of the coil pair, the receiving power is 1 416mW and the power transfer efficiency is 3.96%. Additionally, when the receiving coil operates in the central plane, it can receive sufficient energy regardless of the orientation.

  • CT-MFENet: Context Transformer and Multi-Scale Feature Extraction Network
           via Global-Local Features Fusion for Retinal Vessels Segmentation

      Abstract: Abstract Segmentation of the retinal vessels in the fundus is crucial for diagnosing ocular diseases. Retinal vessel images often suffer from category imbalance and large scale variations. This ultimately results in incomplete vessel segmentation and poor continuity. In this study, we propose CT-MFENet to address the aforementioned issues. First, the use of context transformer (CT) allows for the integration of contextual feature information, which helps establish the connection between pixels and solve the problem of incomplete vessel continuity. Second, multi-scale dense residual networks are used instead of traditional CNN to address the issue of inadequate local feature extraction when the model encounters vessels at multiple scales. In the decoding stage, we introduce a local-global fusion module. It enhances the localization of vascular information and reduces the semantic gap between high- and low-level features. To address the class imbalance in retinal images, we propose a hybrid loss function that enhances the segmentation ability of the model for topological structures. We conducted experiments on the publicly available DRIVE, CHASEDB1, STARE, and IOSTAR datasets. The experimental results show that our CT-MFENet performs better than most existing methods, including the baseline U-Net.

  • TshFNA-Examiner: A Nuclei Segmentation and Cancer Assessment Framework for
           Thyroid Cytology Image

      Abstract: Abstract Examining thyroid fine-needle aspiration (FNA) can grade cancer risks, derive prognostic information, and guide follow-up care or surgery. The digitization of biopsy and deep learning techniques has recently enabled computational pathology. However, there is still lack of systematic diagnostic system for the complicated gigapixel cytopathology images, which can match physician-level basic perception. In this study, we design a deep learning framework, thyroid segmentation and hierarchy fine-needle aspiration (TshFNA)-Examiner to quantitatively profile the cancer risk of a thyroid FNA image. In the TshFNA-Examiner, cellular-intensive areas strongly correlated with diagnostic medical information are detected by a nuclei segmentation neural network; cell-level image patches are catalogued following The Bethesda System for Reporting Thyroid Cytopathology (TBSRTC) system, by a classification neural network which is further enhanced by leveraging unlabeled data. A cohort of 333 thyroid FNA cases collected from 2019 to 2022 from I to VI is studied, with pixel-wise and image-wise image patches annotated. Empirically, TshFNA-Examiner is evaluated with comprehensive metrics and multiple tasks to demonstrate its superiority to state-of-the-art deep learning approaches. The average performance of cellular area segmentation achieves a Dice of 0.931 and Jaccard index of 0.871. The cancer risk classifier achieves a macro-F1-score of 0.959, macro-AUC of 0.998, and accuracy of 0.959 following TBSRTC. The corresponding metrics can be enhanced to a macro-F1-score of 0.970, macro-AUC of 0.999, and accuracy of 0.970 by leveraging informative unlabeled data. In clinical practice, TshFNA-Examiner can help cytologists to visualize the output of deep learning networks in a convenient way to facilitate making the final decision.

  • Optimal Design of Coils for Wireless Energy Transfer Urethral Valve

      Abstract: Abstract This study optimizes a wireless energy transmission coil to address the low efficiency in percutaneous energy transmission of existing urethral valves. Based on the response surface method and genetic algorithm, the optimal model of wireless energy transmission efficiency is established, and the optimal structure parameters of the coil are determined. The influence of adding ferrite substrate and optimizing the structure on the link transmission efficiency (LTE) for the initial coil, as well as the impact of transmitting coil location on the LTE, was studied theoretically and experimentally. The experimental analysis focuses on the optimized coil’s LTE and the urethral valve’s driving performance. Additionally, a simulation is conducted to assess the electromagnetic safety of the optimized coil. The results show that the structural optimization approach suggested in this research is around 13% more efficient than merely adding substrate, and combining the two enhances the LTE. The LTE decreases as the transmitting coil deflection angle increases. Adding substrate and optimizing the structure can minimize the impact of transmitting coil position change on the LTE. At an axial distance of 30 mm, the optimized coil exhibits an LTE of 74.4%. Compared with the hollow solenoid coil, the urethral valve indicates a 24.4% increase in LTE, a 9.1% increase in driving force, and a reduction of 9.2 s in urethral opening time. After optimization, the coil’s radiation dose to the abdomen’s subcutaneous tissue is less than the fundamental limit, meeting the safe use requirements. This study can provide theoretical guidance for optimizing the design of efficient, portable, and reliable urethral valves.

      Abstract: Abstract A distributed model predictive control (DMPC) method based on robust control barrier function (RCBF) is developed to achieve the safe formation target of multi-autonomous mobile robot systems in an uncertain disturbed environment. The first step is to analyze the safety requirements of the system during safe formation and categorize them into collision avoidance and distance connectivity maintenance. RCBF constraints are designed based on collision avoidance and connectivity maintenance requirements, and security constraints are achieved through a combination. Then, the specified safety constraints are integrated with the objective of forming a multi-autonomous mobile robot formation. To ensure safe control, the optimization problem is integrated with the DMPC method. Finally, the RCBF-DMPC algorithm is proposed to ensure iterative feasibility and stability while meeting the constraints and expected objectives. Simulation experiments illustrate that the designed algorithm can achieve cooperative formation and ensure system security.

  • Effect of Stratum Distribution on Deep Circular Excavation with Dewatering
           Above a Multi-Aquifer System by Hydro-Mechanical Coupled Numerical
           Analysis

      Abstract: Abstract Dewatering in multilayered aquifers is closely related to stratigraphic configuration. However, previous studies concentrate on the excavation response to dewatering in particular strata, lacking systematic study on the influence of stratum configuration. This study developed a hydro-mechanical coupled numerical model based on the practical engineering of Shanghai Tower deep excavation. The model and input parameters were validated by field measurements. Besides, a parametric study was conducted to investigate the effect of the thickness, permeability and depth of the aquitard on excavation performances. The analysis indicated that settlements in the excavation were insensitive to the thicknesses and permeability of aquitards, while ground surface settlement increased significantly with the increase of the confined aquifer thickness. Based on the numerical analysis, a fit relationship was established to predict the maximum ground settlements of deep excavation in Shanghai considering the excavation depth, groundwater drawdown and distribution of multilayered aquifers. The applicability of the fit equation was verified by field measurements.

  • Multi-Objective Loosely Synchronized Search for Multi-Objective
           Multi-Agent Path Finding with Asynchronous Actions

      Abstract: Abstract In recent years, the path planning for multi-agent technology has gradually matured, and has made breakthrough progress. The main difficulties in path planning for multi-agent are large state space, long algorithm running time, multiple optimization objectives, and asynchronous action of multiple agents. To solve the above problems, this paper first introduces the main problem of the research: multi-objective multi-agent path finding with asynchronous action, and proposes the algorithm framework of multi-objective loose synchronous (MO-LS) search. By combining A* and M*, MO-LS-A* and MO-LS-M* algorithms are respectively proposed. The completeness and optimality of the algorithm are proved, and a series of comparative experiments are designed to analyze the factors affecting the performance of the algorithm, verifying that the proposed MO-LS-M* algorithm has certain advantages.

  • Regional Integrated Energy System Resilience Enhancement Strategy at the
           Integrated Stage of Disaster Response and Post-Disaster Recovery

      Abstract: Abstract Deployment of integrated energy system is conducive to improving energy efficiency and achieving the transformation of the global energy system. However, recent appearance of extreme natural disasters poses a great challenge to the safe and stable operation of the integrated energy system. Therefore, the resilience of the integrated energy system, namely the ability to anticipate, withstand, respond to and recover to normal state, is to be enhanced urgently. This paper proposes a master-slave optimization model for the resilience enhancement of integrated energy system in the integrated stage of disaster response and post-disaster recovery, in view of the strong correlation between the two stages. The master model develops the optimal fault repair plan, and the sub model determines the optimal energy supply recovery scheme. Based on the master-slave model, which adopts the repair and operation state of the component as coupling variables, a coordinated optimization framework is constructed. Then, the master-slave model is merged into a two-stage robust optimization model for iterative solution in order to develop the optimal fault repair strategy and energy supply recovery scheme of the integrated energy system, enhancing its resilience in the integrated stage of disaster response and post-disaster recovery.

  • Knowledge-Data Fusion Model for Multivariate Load Short-Term Forecasting
           of Integrated Energy System

      Abstract: Abstract The short-term forecasting of multiple loads is crucial for the optimization and scheduling of integrated energy system (IES). However, the load within the IES exhibits diversified and strongly coupled characteristics, which seriously affects the forecast accuracy. Moreover, only using deep learning forecasting methods cannot analyze the factors that affect the forecast results, which is not conducive to guiding the optimization and scheduling of comprehensive energy systems. Therefore, a multivariate load forecasting model based on knowledge-guided multi-task spatial-temporal synchronous graph convolutional network is proposed. Firstly, the user clusters are classified according to the energy-using characteristics of different buildings. Then, the domain knowledge base is built by combining the dimensionless trends of different groups and expert experience. At the same time, the input features are filtered based on the improved maximum information coefficient method to construct spatial-temporal graph data, forming a more refined and efficient input sample data. Finally, the knowledge-data fusion model for multivariate load forecasting is constructed to predict local fluctuations of the multivariate load series and reconstruct the load ratio. The IES data set of Arizona State University Tempe Campus is taken as a test case. The results show that the proposed method is interpretable, has higher forecast accuracy and has better generalization ability.

  • Data Augmentation of Ship Wakes in SAR Images Based on Improved CycleGAN

      Abstract: Abstract The study on ship wakes of synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images holds great importance in detecting ship targets in the ocean. In this study, we focus on the issues of low quantity and insufficient diversity in ship wakes of SAR images, and propose a method of data augmentation of ship wakes in SAR images based on the improved cycle-consistent generative adversarial network (CycleGAN). The improvement measures mainly include two aspects: First, to enhance the quality of the generated images and guarantee a stable training process of the model, the least-squares loss is employed as the adversarial loss function; Second, the decoder of the generator is augmented with the convolutional block attention module (CBAM) to address the issue of missing details in the generated ship wakes of SAR images at the microscopic level. The experiment findings indicate that the improved CycleGAN model generates clearer ship wakes of SAR images, and outperforms the traditional CycleGAN models in both subjective and objective aspects.

  • Unbalanced Graph Multi-Scale Fusion Node Classification Method

      Abstract: Abstract Graphs are used as a data structure to describe complex relationships between things. The node classification method based on graph network plays an important role in practical applications. None of the existing graph node classification methods consider the uneven distribution of node labels. In this paper, a graph convolution algorithm on a directed graph is designed for the distribution of unbalanced graph nodes to realize node classification based on multi-scale fusion graph convolution network. This method designs different propagation depths for each class according to the unbalance ratio on the data set, and different aggregation functions are designed at each layer of the graph convolutional network based on the class propagation depth and the graph adjacency matrix. The scope of information dissemination of positive samples is expanded relatively, thereby improving the accuracy of classification of unbalanced graph nodes. Finally, the effectiveness of the algorithm is verified through experiments on the public text classification datasets.

  • Receding Horizon Control-Based Stabilization of Singular Stochastic
           Systems with State Delay

      Abstract: Abstract For a class of discrete-time singular stochastic systems with multi-state delay, the stabilization problem of receding horizon control (RHC) is concerned. Due to the difficulty in solving the proposed optimization problem, the RHC stabilization for such systems has not been solved. By adopting the forward and backward equation technique, the optimization problem is solved completely. A sufficient and necessary condition for the optimization controller to have a unique solution is given when the regularization and pulse-free conditions are satisfied. Based on this controller, an RHC stabilization condition is derived, which is in the form of linear matrix inequality. It is proved that the singular stochastic system with multi-state delay is stable in the mean-square sense under appropriate assumptions when the terminal weighting matrix satisfies the given inequality. Numerical examples show that the proposed RHC method is effective in stabilizing singular stochastic systems with multi-state delay.

  • Tree Detection Algorithm Based on Embedded YOLO Lightweight Network

      Abstract: Abstract To avoid colliding with trees during its operation, a lawn mower robot must detect the trees. Existing tree detection methods suffer from low detection accuracy (missed detection) and the lack of a lightweight model. In this study, a dataset of trees was constructed on the basis of a real lawn environment. According to the theory of channel incremental depthwise convolution and residual suppression, the Embedded-A module is proposed, which expands the depth of the feature map twice to form a residual structure to improve the lightweight degree of the model. According to residual fusion theory, the Embedded-B module is proposed, which improves the accuracy of feature-map downsampling by depthwise convolution and pooling fusion. The Embedded YOLO object detection network is formed by stacking the embedded modules and the fusion of feature maps of different resolutions. Experimental results on the testing set show that the Embedded YOLO tree detection algorithm has 84.17% and 69.91% average precision values respectively for trunk and spherical tree, and 77.04% mean average precision value. The number of convolution parameters is 1.78 × 106, and the calculation amount is 3.85 billion float operations per second. The size of weight file is 7.11 MB, and the detection speed can reach 179 frame/s. This study provides a theoretical basis for the lightweight application of the object detection algorithm based on deep learning for lawn mower robots.

  • Reasoning about Software Trustworthiness with Derivation Trees

      Abstract: Abstract In order to analyze the trustworthiness of complex software systems, we propose a model of evidence-based software trustworthiness called trustworthiness derivation tree (TDT). The basic idea of constructing a TDT is to refine main properties into key ingredients and continue the refinement until basic facts such as evidences are reached. The skeleton of a TDT can be specified by a set of rules, which are convenient for automated reasoning in Prolog. We develop a visualization tool that can construct the skeleton of a TDT by taking the rules as input, and allow a user to edit the TDT in a graphical user interface. In a software development life cycle, TDTs can serve as a communication means for different stakeholders to agree on the properties about a system in the requirement analysis phase, and they can be used for deductive reasoning so as to verify whether the system achieves trustworthiness in the product validation phase. We have piloted the approach of using TDTs in more than a dozen real scenarios of software development. Indeed, using TDTs helped us to discover and then resolve some subtle problems.

  • Dynamic Self-Similar kc-Center Network Based on Information Dissemination

      Abstract: Abstract This study mainly focused on the dynamic self-similar kc-center network as a result of information distribution through social networks. Individual attraction with various preferences was characterized in the model as a result of reciprocal attraction among individuals and human multi-attribute. Additionally, the model incorporated the community network structure and network evolution mechanism, and a dynamic self-similar kc-center network generation model was presented. Compared with the classical scale-free network generation algorithm, the generated network embodied not only the characteristics of the small-world and scale-free, but also the characteristics of dynamic self-similar kc-center network. The experimental results were verified by comparing the real data with the experimental data. The results showed that there are dynamic self-similar kc-center networks and their internal network relationship dynamics in the micro scale, meso scale and global perspective based on information dissemination.
