  • Improvement of the Production Process of an Air Handling Unit Based on
           Value Stream Mapping

    • Abstract: Value Stream Mapping (VSM) is a visual Lean Manufacturing tool for graphically illustrating material and information flows in processes, on production lines, and even across a factory. It makes it possible to identify activities that do not generate added value, and thereby creates opportunities for improvement by reducing or completely eliminating waste. This paper explores a real-work case study of the production process for an air handling unit. Thus, after analysing the activities undertaken in an enterprise operating in the HVAC (Heating Ventillation Air Conditioning) industry, a current state map was drawn that shows the actual flow of the value stream. Then, a future state map was developed with suggestions for eliminating the root causes of waste and those for improving processes. The proposed improvements allow for shorter lead time and faster order processing, which may increase competitiveness.

  • Safety of the Reinforced Concrete Structure in Selected Design and
           Execution Parameters

    • Abstract: The chapter discusses selected standard parameters for the safety of a building structure, which include reliability, serviceability and durability. The current Eurocodes in Poland formulate the concept of reliability for the period from the design concept to the end of the intended service life. Hence, the reliability of the structure is influenced by factors related to the stage of investment preparation, design works, execution as well as the use and maintenance of the facility. The Eurocodes formulate otherwise obvious requirements as to the qualifications of engineering and labor staff, supervision and quality control of the implementation of design and construction works, the requirement to use materials compliant with the applicable standards, and proper maintenance of the facility and use in accordance with the assumptions. Such requirements were not formulated in previously binding standards. According to the author, the appearance of such provisions should be treated as a direct assumption of high standards. The issue of the value of service loads and the accuracy of their mapping was discussed. Attention was also paid to the problem of significant complexity of the climatic load patterns. The Ultimate and Serviceability Limit States are explained. In terms of impacts, the issue of their value and possible calculation schemes was raised. In terms of materials - concrete and steel, the general research and relationships between the most important strength properties are discussed. The issue of geometric dimensional deviations and the method of their adoption were also discussed, with particular emphasis on the reinforcement cover at the design and execution stage.

  • Improvement of the Providing Services Process with Use of the Sitequal

    • Abstract: The current market situation has forced enterprises to change the place where they offer their products. Due to the covid-19 restrictions, in order not to lose customers and be able to continue earning money, they had to create or use various types of online platforms and organize e-shops where customers can make purchases without any restrictions. With properly designed and organized platforms, customers can check other customers’ opinions about a given enterprise and its offer, choose what they need, how they want to pay, what type of delivery of the ordered goods they prefer, and they can do it at any time of the day or night and from anywhere with access to the Internet. However, it can be noticed that not all platforms operating on the market meet the expectations of customers, they do not have many functions, and there is even lack of the basic information about the enterprise or contact details. In such a situation, customers are uncertain about the safety of using such a platform, often prefer to use a competitive e-shop. That is why, when assessing the operation of e-shops and the quality of its services, it is necessary to take into account the assessment of the operation of the online platform itself. The aim of the paper is to assess the functioning of the selected internet platform and its operation by customers. The Sitequal method, a variation of the Servqual method, was used during the research. The results of the research helped to show whether the customers were satisfied with the functioning of the platform, what they liked and what they would like to improve. This allowed to indicate the strengths and weaknesses of this platform and possible direction of improvements. The results obtained can form the basis for various types of enterprises to improve their online platforms.

  • The Impact of Renewable Energy on Economic Growth and Sustainable

    • Abstract: Since 1997, when the Kyoto Protocol was signed, the era of renewable energy has begun. Due to the growth of its share in the total energy production and consumption, the world community is making efforts towards the transition to sustainable development. Developed and developing countries have significantly increased production and consumption of renewable energy in absolute terms trying to join this initiative. The purpose of this work is to study the impact of changes in the share of total production and consumption of renewable energy on the economic growth and CO2 emissions. Secondary data of the World Bank, the countries that invest the most in renewable energy (the USA, China, the European Union) is used and a comparison with Ukraine, Russian Federation and general global indicators covering the period 1990-2015 is made. Modeling of the influence of the share of production and consumption of renewable energy sources in the total volume in the studied countries on the level of economic growth and CO2 emissions using economic and mathematical modeling is carried out. Linear regression models of the studied countries and the world are estimated. The hypothesis on a link between economic growth and development of renewable energy has been confirmed. The results reveal that depending on the country under the research the level and nature of the impact of increasing the share of production and consumption of renewable energy on economic growth differs significantly and depends on a number of political and economic factors.
