  • PARTIAL MEDIATION EFFECT OF EVENT SATISFACTION IN RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
LIFE SATISFACTION AND LEISURE INVOLVEMENT: A SAMPLE OF RECREATIONAL
           RUNNERS

    • Authors: İsmail AYDIN
Abstract: Participation in leisure activities is an important component of a healthy lifestyle. The desire to discover the underlying process of leisure activity selection and to determine life satisfaction resulting from this activity selection has been increasing recently. For this reason, the main purpose of the study was to determine how leisure involvement affects life satisfaction of male or female who preferrecreational running as a leisure activity, and whether event satisfaction has a mediating role on this effect. In this study conducted with 239 participants, Modified Involvement Scale (MIS), Life Satisfaction Scale (LSS) and Event Satisfaction Scale (ESS) were used as data collection tools. The research model created to examine the relationship between the scales was evaluated using the Structural Equation and event satisfaction had a mediating role in the model. In addition, it has been determined that this effect level varies according to gender. As a result, it may be said that event satisfaction is a criterion that determines in order to comprehend the personal relevance (involvement) in the recreational running experience and the life satisfaction resulting from this relevance. Model (SEM). As a result, it was determined that the leisure involvement had an effect on level of recreational runners’ life satisfaction and event satisfaction had a mediating role in the model. In addition, it has been determined that this effect level varies according to gender. As a result, it may be said that event satisfaction is a determinant criterion to comprehend the personal relevance (involvement) in the recreational running experience and the life satisfaction resulting from this relevance.

  • PREDICTING EUROLEAGUE BASKETBALL MATCH OUTCOMES WITH MACHINE LEARNING
TECHNIQUES AND REVEALING THE MOST IMPORTANT GAME RELATED VARIABLES

    • Authors: Erhan ÇENE
Abstract: In this study, team statistics in 1358 EuroLeague basketball matches played between 2016-2017 and 2020-2021 seasons were taken into account and it was tried to determine which of these team statistics had the most impact on the winner of the match. The matches were divided into three groups as close, balanced and unbalanced games according to the score differences indicated by the k-means cluster analysis result. K nearest neighbor, naive bayes, logistic regression, support vector machines, decision tree, random forest and artificial neural network algorithms were applied to both these three groups and all matches, and the most effective algorithms were found to be logistic regression, support vector machines and artificial neural networks. These three algorithms can predict correctly the match result for all matches with approximately 84% accuracy. This rate decreased to 79% in close matches, increased to 97% in balanced matches and to 100% in unbalanced matches. The variables that have the most influence on the outcome of the match are defensive rebounds, true shooting percentage, steals, turnovers, offensive rebounds and free throw attempts. The results give an idea on the issues that the teams should focus on while determining their in-match strategies and help them determine their strategy by focusing on these issues.

  • DETERMINING THE VARIABLES AFFECTING THE NUMBER OF ATTACKING AFTER THE 20TH
NUMBERS IN ELITE WOMEN VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS WITH THE CHAID DECISION TREE

    • Authors: Cengiz AKARÇEŞME; Nurbanu BURSA
Abstract: One of the most important factors affecting the outcome of the match in volleyball is the attacking skills of the players and the attacks that they result in score points (attack score points) throughout the match. In this respect, determining the variables that affect the attack score points and being aware of these variables by the coach and the players, has importance for the victory. For this purpose, in the study, using the attack data after the 20th scores of the players in the 2018-2019 Turkish Volleyball Federation Sultans Volleyball League (TVFSVL) teams; it was examined whether the variables nationality, player position, number of good attacks (positive attacks), number of bad attacks (negative attacks), failure to attack, and blocked attacks, have an effect on the attacks that resulted in score points. CHAID (Chi-squared Automatic Interaction Detection) algorithm, which is one of the decision tree techniques and is frequently used in data mining applications due to its easy interpretation, was used to determine the effective variables. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that the player position does not affect the attack score points at all, and the number of bad attacks is the variable that most affected the attack score points among the other variables.

  • DELAYED MUSCLE SORENESS (DOMS) AND NUTRITIONAL INTERVENTIONS AFTER
           EXERCISE IN ATHLETES

    • Authors: Gözde ŞENTÜRK; Pınar GÖBEL
Abstract: Delayed post-exercise muscle pain is a type of pain that is felt within the first 24 hours after exercise, peaks between 1 and 3 days, compared to acute muscle pain, and its effect decreases completely after 5-7 days. There is increasing interest and research into delayed muscle pain. Although there are different formation mechanisms on delayed muscle pain, the formation mechanisms have not been fully explained. Nutritional interventions are one of the preventive and/or therapeutic ways to reduce delayed muscle soreness. Studies have reported that nutritional interventions can reduce delayed muscle soreness. Many studies have reported the effect of caffeine, omega-3 fatty acids, taurine, polyphenols, and curcumin on delayed muscle soreness. Consistent data have not been reported from minor interventions with supplements such as antioxidants, L-carnitine, BCAA, allicin. Delayed muscle soreness is an area that needs more study in athletes. There is a need for more studies examining these factors by considering more factors such as the severity of the damage, individual response, the dose-response relationship used, the duration of intake and the markers they are affected by. The aim of this review is to address nutritional interventions that are thought to be effective in the treatment and prevention of delayed muscle pain and to discuss the relationship between delayed muscle pain and nutrition.

  • EVALUATION OF PRE-RACING FOOD RESTRICTIONS IN MASTER ATHLETES

    • Authors: Osman Emir SARAÇ; Günay ESKİCİ
Abstract: The purpose of this research was to determine pre-racing voluntary food restrictions, food preferences and food avoidance reasons of master athletes. A total of 246 master athletes (185 men, 61 women) who participated in training and racing at 5 km, 6-10 km, 11-21 km, marathon and ultra marathon participated in the study. To determine food restrictions of master athletes, this research drew on the “Food Restriction in Running Questionnaire’’ which developed by Parnell et al. (2019). Since the data collection process was carried out during the Covid-19 pandemic, some of the data were collected through face-to-face interviews and some online. The Fisher’s Exact test determined significant differences between gender, running distance and performance level groups. In all statistical analyses, the level of statistical significance was set at p<0,05. It was determined that the most restricted foods pre-racing were high-fat foods (79%), junk foods (63%), spicy foods (58%), milk (54%) and red meat (44%). It was determined that there was a significant relationship between gender in the restriction of legumes, milk and high fiber foods and the restriction was higher in women (p <0,05). Especially high-fat foods and lactose-free milk were found to be more restricted as the running distance and performance level increased (p <0,05). It was determined thatpre-racing food restriction was more common in female master athletes and the increasing running distance and performance level increases the food restriction rates in master athletes.

  • THE PSYCHOLOGICAL NEED STATES IN SPORT-SCALE (PNSS-S): TURKISH ADAPTATION,
           STUDY OF VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY

    • Authors: Şaban ÜNVER; Metin YILMAZ, Tülin ATAN, Soner ÇANKAYA, Yüksel SAVUCU
Abstract: Understanding human motivation requires the consideration of innate psychological needs. This study aims to adapt the “Psychological Need States Scale in Sport (PNSS-S)” into Turkish and test the scale’s validity and reliability in athletes. In the determination of the study sample, convenience sampling method was adopted. The universe of the study consists of active athletes between the ages of 14-26 in different sports branches, and the sample consists of 169 athletes who were selected by random sampling method and who accepted to participate in the research voluntarily. The Turkish version of the Psychological Needs in Sports Scale consists of 7 Likert type 23 items and 6 sub-dimensions (Autonomy satisfaction, Autonomy frustration, Competence satisfaction, Competence frustration, Relatedness satisfaction, Relatedness frustration). For the construct validity of the scale, confirmatory factor analysis was conducted and Cronbach alpha internalconsistency and CR coefficients were used to test the reliability. According to the results of the confirmatory factor analysis, the factor loads of the items of the scale ranged from 0.43 to 0.86. According to the analysis results obtained, it was seen that the model had good fit index values. The chi-square fit test yielded χ²/Sd=1.976, while the root mean square error of approximation value was 0.079. Furthermore, the normalized fit index was 0.90 while the non-normalized fit index was 0.95. The comparative fit index was 0.95 while the goodness of fit index was 0.92 in additionto the corrected fit index of 0.86. The scale’s Cronbach alpha internal consistency and CR coefficients (0.64-0.84) are acceptable values. The results obtained in the study revealed that the Turkish adaptation of the “Psychological Need States Scale in Sport” met the validity and reliability conditions to evaluate psychological needs in sports. In conclusion, it can be stated that the Psychological Need States Scale in Sport is a reliable and valid measurement tool. It can be suggested for researchers or coaches who would like to investigate and analyze the psychological needs of Turkish athletes to use the scale.

  • DEVELOPING THE AWARENESS FOR EXERCISE ADDICTION SCALE (AFEAS): VALIDITY
           AND RELIABILITY STUDY

    • Authors: Gönül TEKKURŞUN DEMİR; Halil İbrahim CİCİOĞLU
Abstract: A mixed model was used in the study, which aimed to develop a valid and reliable Awareness for Exercise Addiction Scale (AFEAS). 432 individuals who exercised participated in the study. Exploratory Factor Analysis, Confirmatory Factor Analysis, item analysis and reliability analysis were used in the analysis of the data. As a result of the analyses, the compatibility of the Awareness for Exercise Addiction Scale with factor analysis was proven by the Exploratory Factor Analysis, and at the end of the Exploratory Factor Analysis, three stable sub-dimensions with eigenvalues greater than 1 were obtained. These dimensions and the items in these dimensions were tested with Confirmatory Factor Analysis. Accordingly, it was determined that the covariance values, error variance of the items, and fit indices were in the appropriate range. Then, item analysis was performed and a significant difference was found in the t values of the participants with the highest (27%) and the lowest (27%) points in the study group. For the reliability analysis of the scale, Cronbach Alpha, Spearman Brown, Guttman Split-Half, Parallel test coefficients and test-retest analysis were performed and the reliability of the scale was proven. At the end of the research, it was determined that AFEAS is a time-resistant, valid and reliable measurement tool consisting of 15 items and the dimensions of AEE(Awareness of the Effect on Emotions), AES (Awareness of the Effect on Socialization) and GF (General Awareness).
