      Authors: Max R. Wursta
Abstract: According to presented results, patients with hepatitis C who undergo total joint arthroplasty and are Childs-Pugh class B or C have increased 2-year mortality rates compared with patients who are Childs-Pugh class A.
“For general abdominal surgery, Childs-Pugh score is used to predict mortality for liver disease patients after surgery, with class A having a 10% mortality rate, B a 30% and C a 70% to 80% mortality rate,” Kyle H. Cichos, BS, said in his presentation at the Musculoskeletal Infection Society Annual Meeting. “So, we decided to ask what the risk factors were for

      Authors: Emma Bascom
Abstract: A small Norwegian study published in BMJ Nutrition Prevention and Health revealed that the semi-soft, “nutty-flavored cheese” might help prevent bone thinning like osteoporosis without adversely effecting cholesterol.
Vitamin K is critical for bone health, the researchers wrote, and supplementation with calcium, vitamin D and vitamin K2 — also known as menaquinone (MK) — is a recommended osteoporosis treatment. Previous research has suggested that Jarlsberg might boost osteocalcin, which is a hormone associated with strong bones and teeth, but it was unclear if the

“Advantages of [debridement, antibiotics and implant retention] DAIR are that it only requires a single surgical procedure, shorter operative times, shorter hospital stays, lower overall treatment costs and improved acute postoperative mobility. Success rates vary from 26% to 96% in total knee arthroplasty [periprosthetic joint infection] PJI,” Nicholas Tubin said

“Adjusting the codes is needed because everybody knows that these cases are expensive, and nobody wants to do them and this is limiting the access to care of patients,” Jesus M. Villa, MD, said in his presentation at the Musculoskeletal Infection Society Annual Meeting.

Authors: Rita K. Kuwahara; MD, MIH
Abstract: Several health provisions guaranteed by the Affordable Care Act have been widely popular among the American people and saved countless lives ever since this landmark piece of legislation was enacted into law.
Despite multiple prior lawsuits and attempts to overturn this legislation, the ACA has so far prevailed. It is, however, now again under threat. Kelley v. Becerra, the latest lawsuit attacking the ACA, is deeply concerning and would directly jeopardize the health of our patients and communities across the nation.
