• Recurrent Pregnancy Loss and Thrombophilia: An insight

• Free pre-print version: Loading...

Authors: Mudasir Maqbool, Irfat Ara, Mehrukh Zehravi, Imran Gani
Pages: 1 - 7
Abstract: By definition, thrombophilia refers to acquired and/or hereditary diseases that predispose people to venous and arterial thromboembolic events. The most common cause of death on the planet is thrombosis. Myocardial infarction and stroke are major causes of morbidity and mortality in the vascular system. The deep veins of the lower extremity are the most usually involved in venous thromboembolic events, which can lead to pulmonary emboli. Thromboembolism is the major cause of antepartum and postpartum maternal mortality, as pregnancy is a hypercoagulable state. Recurrent Pregnancy Loss (RPL) is a major public health issue, with about 15-20 percent of all clinically diagnosed pregnancies ending in a miscarriage. RPL affects about 1% to 2% of women and is defined as three successive pregnancy losses before 20 weeks. Patients' lives are severely impacted by recurrent pregnancy loss. Each miscarriage leaves you feeling bereft and bewildered. The link between thrombophilia and recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) has been shown beyond a shadow of a doubt. The physiologic changes of pregnancy, which create a relative hypercoagulable condition, as well as physical alterations that contribute to greater stasis, and the impact of both inherited and acquired thrombophilias, all play a role in the development of thrombosis in pregnancy. The importance of each of these factors in the development of thrombophilia is discussed in this review, as well as the evidence regarding the influence of pregnancy-related thrombosis on pregnancy outcomes.

• A Short Review on Breast Fibroadenomas

• Free pre-print version: Loading...

Authors: Istuti Gupta, Sandeep Sirohi, Mohammad Munawar Tappa, Surya Prakash DV
First page: 8
Abstract: Breast Fibroadenomas are the most common type of benign breast lumps found mainly in adolescent women. These are unilateral, smooth, demarcated, rubbery, mobile, and painless masses. They are believed to be formed by the influence of changes in the female reproductive hormone, estrogen and sometimes the combination of both estrogen and progesterone which mainly occurs at the time of puberty. Fibroadenomas are mostly found in women till the age of 35 and diminish after menopause. They are also influenced by the Body Mass Index (BMI) of an individual and have more chances of occurrence in the ones with a strong medical history of breast lesions or tumors. These are of various types depending on their number, size, texture, etc. Many diagnostic techniques like Mammogram, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Pathological Analysis, etc. are used for their evaluation and assessment. Several methods of intervention have been identified and practiced including Surgical Excision, Minimally Invasive Techniques and Ablative Procedures depending on the type of fibroadenoma and some other factors. These benign lumps do not possess any risk of breast carcinoma, however, it has been suggested in several articles that Fibroadenomas might increase the risk of breast cancer in some cases.

Abstract: Lung cancer is the world's second leading cause of death, with an estimated 9.6 million deaths in 2018. Approximately 80% of all lung cancer is caused by non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Due to lack of early detection and treatment, the incidence rate of lung cancer prognosis remains low. CD4+T-lymphocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, and natural killer cells are among the immune cells involved in the pathogenesis of lung cancer. The through immune cells suggest their participation in each stage of lung cancer to be highly complex and networked. Types and quantities of immune cells influence prognosis and may provide a possibility for medicinal therapeutic applications. Nevertheless, there is an insufficient view of the role of immune cells and the fundamental mechanisms of lung cancer. Recent year's cancer immunotherapy has revolutionized conventional cancer treatment, including cancer vaccination, genetic cancer therapy, and immune response point therapy. Types of immune cells affect prognosis and may offer clinical therapeutic applications an opportunity. Nevertheless, there is still an inadequate knowledge of the role of immune cells and the underlying mechanisms in lung cancer; difficulties remain in this field. More studies on the function of immune cells will improve knowledge of lung cancer and establish clinical strategies to diagnose and handle patients with more advanced and specific lung cancer.

• Comparative Evaluation of Genotoxicity in Peripheral Blood Mononuclear
Cells in Oral Precancer and Cancer Patients Using Single Cell Gel
Electrophoresis

• Free pre-print version: Loading...

Authors: Deep Kumari Yadav, Pooja Senghani, Dhiru Makwana, Rakesh Rawal
Pages: 26 - 34
Abstract: In the present study the comet assay was performed in peripheral mononuclear cells to evaluate DNA damage among tobacco chewers and smokers. The assay provides a quick, accurate and sensitive way to detect various forms of DNA damage in individual cells. The study comprises 50 oral cancer patients, 12 oral submucous fibrosis patients and 10 healthy controls. The length of the comet tail was used to determine the level of DNA damage. In all groups a significant increase in the tail length was observed as compared to the healthy control. The highest tail length was observed among tobacco and bidi (smoker) in oral cancer groups (p=0.01). Whereas, in oral submucous fibrosis higher tail length was observed with tobacco chewers along with smoker (22.92 ± 2.02) High statistical significance (P < 0.0001) was found in DNA damage levels between control and study groups (OC and OSMF). Between all staging phases, there was a stepwise increase in DNA damage levels with strong statistical significance (P < 0.005). The findings of the present study indicate that tobacco and smoking are genotoxic substances that cause DNA damage.

• Management of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

• Free pre-print version: Loading...

Authors: Vidhi Ramesh Parakhiya, Deepali S Parab
First page: 35
Abstract: The complex condition known as polycystic ovarian
syndrome (PCOS) is characterized by chronic
anovulation and hyperandrogenism. Depending on
diagnostic criteria, 6–20% of females in reproductive age
are afflicted. PCOS symptoms start to appear in the
early pubertal years. Acne, anovulation, and irregular
menstrual periods are features of PCOS and pubertal
development in the average girl. The complex
intertwined pathophysiology makes it difficult to identify
the provoking factors. Most available scientific
information communicates findings and outcomes in
person to women. Different diagnostic criteria for PCOS
in adolescent females have been defined, despite the
Rotterdam guidelines for girls being frequently used.
Menstrual irregularity, scientific hyperandrogenism,
and/or hyperandrogenemia are diagnostic indicators in
adolescent girls. Pelvic ultrasound findings aren't wanted
for the diagnosis of PCOS in adolescent ladies.

• Acute Myeloid Leukemia in Children: An Overview

• Free pre-print version: Loading...

Authors: Kamini P. Sao
Pages: 28 - 35
Abstract: Acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) means when the body makes too many immature blood cells. These cells, called myeloid blasts, can't mature into normal white blood cells. In India, Cancer is the leading cause of mortality among children aged 5 to 14, with roughly 45,000 youngsters diagnosed each year. About 20% of children with leukaemia have this type of cancer. AML develops and gets worse quickly, so early diagnosis is important. Most children are cured with treatment. Outcome data for AML can be inferred that 50–80% of treated patients had experienced an event. On collaborative efforts, treatment of patients depends upon risk-stratified adapted protocols on local infrastructure and improvement in supportive care.
