  Abstract: I first had the opportunity to meet Robin Savage in December of 2019 while visiting Portland, Maine, where he currently resides with his wife and fellow poet-intellectual, Mary Molinary. Over the past thirty-plus years, Robin has dedicated whatever free time could be stolen from his extensive teaching career to painterly artistic production. His output has been prolific. Upon entering the Art-space of their home one is immediately struck by the visual dynamism and diversity of paintings that envelop the walls.   Abstract: The poetry and prose of Mexican author Rosario Castellanos often exhibits a mix of humor, melodrama, irony, and tragedy within single works. Emotionally compelling writing like hers is not only effective to engage the reader at numerous levels of consciousness; it also allows Castellanos to lace her writing with biting criticism of chronic gendered and socio-political inequality in Mexico, a tendency described as a "critical edge" (Lund 79).   Abstract: Separated by more than fifty years and thousands of miles of geographic distance, Peruvian José María Arguedas's El zorro de arriba y el zorro de abajo (1971) and Yuri Herrera's Señales que precederán al fin del mundo (2010) coincide much more than they contrast.1 The two novels register the complex set of challenges faced by societies caught-up in dizzying processes of modernization and globalization.
