  • Synthesis and Antibacterial Activity of Cellulose Modified with
           Ciprofloxacin Fragments

      Abstract: Ultrafine linen and powdered cotton celluloses were modified with fluoroquinolone antibiotic ciprofloxacin. The modification was carried out by means of interaction of cellulose tosylates with ciprofloxacin hydrochloride in DMF medium at 100°C for 25 h. The modified cellulose samples were characterized using IR and NMR 1H spectroscopy. The antimicrobial activity of the obtained samples was assessed and their bacteriostatic and bactericidal activity against gram-positive bacteria S. aureus 209 and B. cereus 8035 was revealed.

  • Assessment of the Resistance of the Paint and Varnish Coatings on Parts
           Made of Polymer Composite Materials to the Action of Ultraviolet Radiation

      Abstract: The results of the accelerated climatic tests of the protective and decorative properties of paint and varnish coatings (PVCs) applied by different technologies onto the samples made of polymer composite materials to the action of ultraviolet radiation (GOST (State Standard) 9.401–2018) are presented. The protective and decorative properties of the PVCs are evaluated in accordance with the procedure specified in GOST (State Standard) 9.407–2015, and the adhesion of the coating is measured in accordance with the procedure specified in GOST (State Standard) 31149–2014 (ISO 2409:2013).

  • The Strength of Weld-Bonded Joints upon Long-Term Action of Negative
           Temperatures

      Abstract: Results of experimental studies of the strength of adhesive and weld-bonded joints at room temperature and negative temperatures after their long-term exposure at –30 and –50°C are presented. An epoxy glue, an anaerobic adhesive sealant, an organosilicon sealant, and a hot melt adhesive based on a copolymer of ethylene with vinyl acetate are used as the adhesive materials, and samples made of steel and aluminum alloy are used as the substrates. It is found that the organosilicon sealant provides the highest strength of the weld-bonded joints at low temperatures. It is shown that common regularities are characteristic for all the types of weld-bonded joints under study: the strength at –30°C is lower than at –50°C.

Compositions of compounds for the repair of cast iron, steel, aluminum, and plastic parts and the technology for preparing part surfaces for gluing are given.   • A Study of the Properties of Melamine–Carbamide–Formaldehyde Resins
           Modified with Lignosulphonates

      Abstract: Modification of melamine–carbamide–formaldehyde resin with lignosulfonates was carried out. Reactions of lignosulfonate with formaldehyde and melamine are presented. The formulations of the optimal adhesives have been determined. Studies of the effect of lignosulfonates on the properties of plywood, in particular, on strength and toxicity, have been carried out. The parameters of gluing plywood of different thickness are substantiated using the developed adhesive composition.

      Abstract: The dependence of adhesive strength of adhesive bonds of steel of grade St3 obtained using oligourethane diepoxides and short-chain aliphatic amine on the time of exposure in various chemical liquids such as water solutions of chemical reagents and oil products was considered. It was shown that the impact of the latter changes the nature of separation of adhesive bond.

  • Carbon Plastic Binders Based on Epoxy Oligomers Modified by Thermoplast

      Abstract: A new binder is developed based on epoxy resins. It is modified using thermoplastic polysulfone and contains the latent curing agent bis-(N,N′-dimethylcarbamide) diphenylmethane. It is shown that the new binder makes it possible to obtain carbon plastics featuring better resistance to shock load.

  • Optimization of Properties of Epoxy Binders during Their Modification

      Abstract: The results of an investigation of the physicomechanical characteristics and the process of polymerization (vitrification temperature, mass loss kinetics) of EPLAT-5 epoxy binder and modified variants thereof based on various diluters and hardeners are presented. The aim of this work is to develop a very effective epoxy binder with increased crack and shock resistance, as well as to choose an optimal regime of solidification. Comparison of physicomechanical characteristics of binders solidified by various regimes with test results of composite shells on their basis, as well as determination of the thermal characteristics of polymerization process, allows evaluating the factors influencing crack and shock resistance and increasing the interlayer adhesion without decreasing the stiffness of the structure.

      Abstract: A synergism of improvement in the lubricating properties of oligo(ethylmethylsiloxane)–VG petroleum oil compositions at a mineral component content of 30–60 wt % was found. Data of physicochemical and IR spectral studies, as well as X-ray microelement analysis, showed that the lubricating properties of compositions were changed through friction surface-occurring chemical reactions associated with adsorption of silicon compounds in the scar of contact.

  • Prospects for the Use of Impregnation Compounds for Maintenance of
           Suspension Elements of Road Vehicles under Different Temperature
           Conditions

      Abstract: The possibility of using impregnating compounds for maintenance of rubber elements of pneumatic suspension of road vehicles in different temperature conditions has been evaluated. Solidol, which is the cheapest general-purpose plastic grease, and the anaerobic material AN-1U (a more expensive grease) have been used as impregnating compounds. It is shown that the use of anaerobic compound when servicing rubber elements of the pneumatic suspension of road vehicles allows increasing their resistance to negative temperatures, minimizing material cracking and, consequently, increasing suspension durability.

  • Application of Polybutadiene–Poly(Tetramethylene Oxide) Block Copolymers
           to Modify Adhesive Compositions

      Abstract: With the aim of obtaining diphilic elastomers that may hold promise as modifiers of impact viscosity and adhesion of thermosetting adhesives, polyblock polybutadiene–poly(tetramethylene oxide) block copolymers are synthesized. The synthesized block copolymers are shown to possess properties of reinforced elastomers with very high relative elongation at break (up to 6000%); thanks to their diphilic nature and the presence of urethane groups, they the improve operational properties of adhesive–melts meant for gluing rubber–fabric materials.

  • A Method for Calculating the Parameters of a Unit for Thermoradiation
           Treatment of Polymer Coatings in the Restoration of Car Body Parts

      Abstract: A description of an algorithm and computer program for calculating the design and operating parameters of a unit for thermoradiation treatment of polymer coatings in the restoration of type I body parts of automotive vehicles is provided. Using the example of gearbox housings of GAZ-24 and GAZ-53 vehicles, a high convergence of the calculated and experimental data of infrared heating parameters is shown, which confirms the correctness of the developed calculation method. The results of experimental studies of the defectiveness of elastomeric coatings after heat treatment by convective and thermoradiation methods are presented. It is shown that the thermal treatment of F-40S elastomeric coatings by the thermoradiation method decreases both the area of the destroyed coating and the concentration of pores in the coating; that is, the overall quality of the coatings is improved.

      Abstract: A review of works, including papers by the authors, dedicated to aromatic polysulfones that have been chemically modified by the main macrochain is presented. Methods of synthesizing copolymers and block copolymers with increased thermal stability via using new initial compounds are described. The potential of application of the modified polysulfones to create thermostable filled composite materials is demonstrated.

  • Studies of Urethane Sealants Using the Penetration Method

      Abstract: The results of dynamic thermomechanical analysis of urethane, including hybrid sealants, using the penetration method are presented. Penetration is used due to the fact that, for many highly elastic sealing materials (especially with increased density), it is impossible to carry out tests in the three-point bending mode. It is shown that the glass-transition temperatures are determined by the penetration method more accurately than with three-point bending; the elasticity and loss moduli are determined with a greater error than by the bending method, due to the fact that the nature of the deformation of the polymer sample under the action of the probe in the penetration mode turns out to be much harder than uniaxial compression. It is concluded that the penetration method should be considered indirect; nevertheless it allows one to reveal trends in the influence of components (plasticizers, fillers, etc.) on the deformation-strength characteristics and heat resistance of materials obtained under the same test conditions.

      Abstract: The active regulatory basis for the evaluation of the quality of bitumen binders (BBs) is analyzed. A method for evaluating the effectiveness of powder modifiers added to asphalt concrete mixes by the Russian dry process through rheological tests of model binders is proposed. A new criterion for evaluation of the quality of binders is proposed, i.e., the temperature of destruction of BBs during fatigue tests.

      Abstract: Polymeric materials are irreplaceable in human life. Their widespread use has resulted in a serious environmental problem: after a single application, they end up in landfills, where they can remain undecayed for many decades. One solution to the problem lies in the creation of polymer materials with a predictable service life by introducing prooxidant additives, examples of which are given in this review. They make the polymer susceptible to oxidative degradation and contribute to its degradation under ambient conditions.

  • Estimation of Interface Strength at Adhesion of Polymers to Fibers with a
           Rough Surface

      Abstract: The surface of several types of carbon fibers is investigated by means of scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Analysis of the images obtained at high magnifications made it possible to establish the characteristic details of the surface relief and employs it for the evaluation of true fiber surface Strue obtained from calculations. Derived from this criterion, a lower limit of adhesive strength measured by the pull-out method is calculated in a “polymer adhesive–fiber with rough surface” joint.

  • Polymer Composite Materials and Gels with Arabinogalactan

      Abstract: Biodegradable compositions based on low-density polyethylene and polylactide containing arabinogalactan are obtained. Their mechanical properties are studied. It is shown that the development of absorbents based on arabinogalactan is complicated by specific features of the structure of its macromolecules, and possible methods of for overcoming them are considered.

  • On the Results of Application of Correlation Analysis during the
           Investigation of the Structure and Properties of Butadiene–Styrene
           Thermoplastic Elastomers

      Abstract: The aim of this work is to develop approaches to predicting of the properties of adhesive elastomeric materials based on butadiene–styrene thermoplastic elastomers (BSTPEs) according to the results of the studies of the structure of BSTPEs with the application of dynamic mechanical analysis. The strength of the relationship between the studied characteristics is evaluated using correlation analysis, which makes it possible to determine significant pair-correlation relationships between the structural indicators of BSTPEs and properties of adhesive compositions based on them by calculation of the Pearson correlation coefficients.
