  • Historically Themed Videogames as Visual Art: Conscious Anachronism and
Creative Licenses in the Representation of Urban Spaces in the
           Assassin’s Creed Series

From the revision of specialized bibliography and the critical-constructive analysis of Dow’s work (2013), which studies the existing anachronisms in the digital recreation of the city of Florence in the videogame Assassin’s Creed II (2009), this study explores the capacity that these types of videogames have to rebuild the setting of a specific historic period from the use of anachronisms that arise from the creative licenses and the artistic needs that are typical of videogames. The results show that the anachronism is a tool that historical videogame developers use in a deliberate way to transmit an image from the past that seems current and attractive for the present. We observed the need to develop our own methodology within the area of game studies to tackle videogames as an artistic object of study, such that it is different from research areas such as historical game studies and other humanistic disciplines.

  • From the Automaton to the Animation Character: Evolution of Representation
           Systems and Recognition of Movement

Throughout history, humans have been interested in the phenomenon of movement and its connection to the illusion of life; different mechanisms and articulated systems have been built with the purpose of breathing life into inert beings. In this article, the movement quality of the creation act present in different socio-cultural fields is reflected on in areas ranging from mysticism to technology. The starting point is the enigma of the anima (soul) and its connection to the creators-named per-formers (i.e., builder-operator, puppeteer, and animator)-and their creations-called “embodied avatars” (i.e., automaton, puppet, and animated character). The relationships of control- freedom and dependence-independence between the performer and their “embodied avatar” are analyzed, as well as the degree of acceptance that the audience shows when watching the creations that are reproduced through the diachronic device (mask-screen). The automaton’s transition toward the animated character proves the evolution of representation systems and the recognition of movement.

  • Hypermedia Flash Fiction: Semiotic Hybridity in the Work of Patricia

With the twist in contemporary thinking toward the text-visual and multimedia culture, the literary genres, as well as flash fiction, go beyond what is written in some symbiotic creations in which text and image can be contemplated all at once in a perceptive unit. Beginning with the narrative strategies that come together in both languages and with the conceptual formulation of hypermedia flash fiction, the interaction of the verbal and visual components is analyzed (in particular, the photographic one) in the flash fiction stories that Patricia Esteban Erlés has published in Facebook. The fantastic imaginary universe of these mini-narratives is covered with the net of the large semiotic density, which multiplies the networks of narrative significance. In this order of ideas, the interaction between the imaginaries of Patricia Esteban Erlés and Diane Arbus regarding the grotesque and the sinister is studied.

  • Gender Discourses in Contact Improvisation Debate and Choreographic Action
           in the Contact Quarterly

The technique of group dance named Contact Improvisation emerged almost half a century ago in New York as an alteration of contact codes and choreographic hierarchies. From the first decades of its development (i.e., ideological, pedagogical, or aesthetic), there has been a complex debate regarding gender. In this study, the different perspectives in the debate are analyzed, which are articulated in-what can be deemed as a foundational journal- Contact Quarterly: questioning of masculinity, the ideas of neutralization and minimalization of sexual topics, and various feminist approaches, as well as queer theory. Rather than the definitions of each one of the postures, we focus on the critical observation of paradoxes, tensions, and points of contact that are reflected in the practice and knit a prolific discourse net.

  • A New Historical a priori' Analysis of Proposals of Humanities Renovation
Focused on the Notion of Information

In this research work, two projects of programmatical renovation of humanities, which are focused on the notion of information, are analyzed. We will consider, on the one side, the proposal of Friedrich Kittler about a theoretical materialism of the information, and on the other side, Gilbert Simondon’s human sciences’ axiomatic. The question that guides our critical assessment is the following: in what ways, in each of these projects, the notion of information acts as center for a renovation proposal of humanities' Our hypothesis holds that there is a common denominator in both proposals, which can be formulated in Foucauldian terms as follows: the information is understood there as the current historical a priori.

  • Amílkar-U An Intermedia Poetic Journey among Words, Actions, and
           Images

This reflection shows how since the sixties Amílcar Osorio has used his artistic practice in pursuit of the deinstitutionalization of literature and art by pla-cing his aesthetic objectives not only in words as a narrative and poetic possibility but also in the use of space and the visual, as well as life itself as an artistic resource. This is how the author blurs the lines of the existing boundaries between literature and visual and action arts. He produces what can be currently dee-med as an intermedia practice by engaging in strategies typical of conceptual art that allow him to connect daily life, literature, and ideas as artistic expression, images, and performance.

  • Cinematographic Interpretations of Cinco metros de poemas: An Intermedia
Approach on the Work of Carlos Oquendo de Amat

Humanistic research acquires a new nuance in the analyses that involve languages from different artistic disciplines. Therefore, in this article, an intermedia analytical approach to the work Cinco metros de poemas by Carlos Oquendo de Amat is aimed at, starting from the movie strategies found in his poems, extracted from the semiology of the cinematographic discourse. This analytical point sheds light on the complex virtuosity of his work, applying the theories of camera movement and production in his poems. Thus, it is observed how the author achieves a combination of the Aesthetics of Jean Epstein and the techniques of an abstract movie, with deep hermeneutics about the evolution of time. With artistry similar to the harmonic production in the work of Eisenstein, this work is successful in involving the “spectator” intellectually and emotionally thanks to the complex staging of its five meters of poems.

  • Transmedia or Crossmedia' A Multidisciplinary Analysis of its
Terminological use in the Academic Literature

The difference between transmedia and crossmedia is frequently found to be confusing in the studies regarding communication. The purpose of this research work is to review the use of both concepts in the scientific literature published in Web of Science and SciELo Citation Index. The research starting point is a sample of 895 articles to which a bibliometric analysis and a network analysis are applied to discover the existing relationships among the texts. The results of the study are useful for knowing the configuration of the knowledge field from a perspective that integrates the diverse disciplines involved, and they open the spectrum to understand the transmedia and crossmedia communication as related objects of study that must be studied in an interdisciplinary manner.
