  • Ultrafast regimen for Pru p3 sublingual immunotherapy (SLIT-Peach ®) in
           patients with anaphylactic LTP-Syndrome

    • Authors: European Annals of Allergy; Clinical Immunology
Abstract: We present a number of 22 patients with LTP-syndrome due to ingestion of different vegetable foods sensitized to Pru p3. According to European Academy of Allergy position paper (1) food immunotherapy is indicated when avoidance measures are ineffective, undesirable, or cause serious limitations on patients quality of life. Our patients had an impact on their quality of life (score > 130) before SLIT measured with (2) EuroPrevall Food Allergy Quality of Life Questionnaire (FAQLQ). The ultrafast regimen in one day is achieved in the 95% of our patients. Mild adverse reactions where observed, such as oral pruritus presence in almost all patients. Only one patient (5%) achieved the maintenance dose in two days due to intense oral pruritus. No patients presented systemic reactions. The maint...

Abstract: Eur Ann Allergy Clin Immunol. 2022 Dec 13. doi: 10.23822/EurAnnACI.1764-1489.277. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTVespa velutina nigrithorax (VVN), commonly known as Asian wasp because endemic in Asia, represents an alien species in Europe. VVN can induce allergic reactions similar to those caused by other Hymenoptera and deaths after VVN stings, presumably due to fatal allergic reactions, were reported. In the treatment of Hymenoptera venom hypersensitivity, specific immunotherapy (VIT) is highly effective, and the vaccine allergen-specificity plays a crucial role. Currently, there is no specific available VIT for VVN, so VVN stung patients with severe systemic reactions are treated with Vespula spp (Vspp) venom. It is also relevant to assess if patients stung by VVN and showing allergic re...

Abstract: Eur Ann Allergy Clin Immunol. 2022 Dec 14. doi: 10.23822/EurAnnACI.1764-1489.278. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHereditary angioedema (HAE) poses a high burden of disease, being its epidemiological and clinical data heterogeneous among countries, with no recent published studies concerning Portuguese patients. Therefore, we aimed to raise awareness of HAE and to contribute to clinical knowledge. An observational, descriptive, retrospective, and cross-sectional study was performed, that included a cohort of 126 patients followed in a single Portuguese Center. We observed a high prevalence of HAE-C1-INH type II (45.2% of patients). Most HAE patients (67.4%) presented the initial manifestations of the disease before adulthood, at a mean age of 12.6 ± 8.4 years. However, we found a long delay...

    • Authors: European Annals of Allergy; Clinical Immunology
Abstract: The objective of our study was to evaluate the association between the previously described asthma risk factors and the prevalence of asthma in a population of Brazilian adults. A population-based cross-sectional study was conducted using data collected from 7891 patients. All patients in the database > 18 years of age were included. The following variables were collected from the health plan database: age, body mass index, smoking status, alcohol consumption, sedentary lifestyle, heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and asthma diagnosis. The frequency of the collected variables was compared between patients with or without an asthma diagnosis, and logistic regression was performed. Of our total sample (7891 patients), 150 (1.9%) had asthma. The mean age of patients with asthma was 39...

    • Authors: European Annals of Allergy; Clinical Immunology
Abstract: Eur Ann Allergy Clin Immunol. 2022 Sep 29. doi: 10.23822/EurAnnACI.1764-1489.269. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPollens are the main cause of respiratory allergies which prevalence is increasing. The most important cause of pollinosis in Europe and especially in the Mediterranean countries as Portugal is Poaceae family pollen. Timothy grass (Phleum pratense) is one of the most common pollen sources, and one of the best characterized allergenic grasses. The major allergens Phl p1 and Phl p5 are considered markers of genuine grass pollen sensitization. A characterization of Phl p1 and Phl p5 sensitization in the North-Central region of Portugal was made in children and adults. Phl p1 sensitization was the most frequent.PMID:36173320

           Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    • Authors: European Annals of Allergy; Clinical Immunology
Abstract: Conclusions. This systematic review identified there is some limited evidence to suggest cryotherapy or radiofrequency ablation of the posterior nasal nerve can improve TNSS in adult patients. However, this is from a limited number of trials with short follow-up. Future research should focus on prospective randomised controlled trials with larger numbers of participants and medium to long term follow up in order to help draw more valid conclusions regarding the true effectiveness of PNNN in this patient cohort.PMID:36066203

  • Taxanes Hypersensitivity is not a risk factor for severe reactions to
           SARS-Cov-2 Vaccines

    • Authors: European Annals of Allergy; Clinical Immunology
Abstract: Conclusions. In our cohort Patients with history of reaction to taxanes were not at higher risk to develop anaphylaxis to SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. However, a common non-IgE mediated mechanism behind those HSRs cannot be completely excluded. This can only account for mild and harmless symptoms in case of SARS-CoV-2 vaccines. Antihistamine premedication and longer observation after the vaccination are still prudent in these patients.PMID:36047485

Abstract: Eur Ann Allergy Clin Immunol. 2022 Sep 1. doi: 10.23822/EurAnnACI.1764-1489.267. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThis is a retrospective analysis of the clinical evolution of 14 patients diagnosed with allergic rhinoconjunctivitis (AR) and/or allergic asthma (AA) caused by Alternaria alternata, who were attended by the allergology service of Vega Baja Hospital of Orihuela (Alicante, Spain). The purpose was to assess the clinical impact and safety of 1-year of subcutaneous immunotherapy with a polymerized molecular allergoid of Alt a 1. Impact of the treatment on allergic diseases (mean number AR/AA episodes and ARIA/GINA classifications), changes in symptoms and prescribed medication, change in the global subjective clinical status of patients and satisfaction with the treatment were also ev...

  • Prenatal antibiotic exposure increases the risk of infant atopic
dermatitis. Data from a Greek cohort

    • Authors: European Annals of Allergy; Clinical Immunology
Abstract: Conclusions. Αn increased risk of AD was recorded only when antibiotics were given prenatally by intravenous route and in women between 30-40 years of age. Children with food allergy had an increased risk for AD. The relatively high percentage of caesarean sections was not a risk factor for AD.PMID:36047711
