Study of Stress Experienced by Parents about Their Children and
Adolescents during COVID-19 Pandemic. Fayoum Governorate. Egypt

  Abstract: a major external stressor, COVID-19 pandemic with all its negative consequences as the lockdown, social obligations, changes in routine and online schooling, health concerns, rapidly increasing affected cases and deaths constitutes a major health concern which heavily affected the psychological wellbeing. Parents are highly vulnerable group and showed high levels of perceived stress during this critical period. This study aimed to assess the stress experienced by parents during the COVID period. Online Google forms and hard copies contained demographic data, perceived stress scale and risk factors were filled by parents (with age ranges from 20-60) of offspring aged till 18 years old. 1265 valid questionnaires with vast majority (93.9%) were mothers. Moderate degree of stress was found in 70.3%. Multivariate regression model for predicting PSS was significantly related to the age category, parenthood and history of psychic trauma. Majority of parents experienced moderate to high grades of stress. The perceived stress was more evident in mothers, also affected by other factors which affect resilience like age, history of previous psychic trauma , and history of COVID infection.

A Cross-sectional Study on Nutritional Status and Factors Associated With
Malnutrition Among School-Age Children in Hyderabad.

  Abstract: Malnutrition among children is one of the greatest public health problems in India. School age is the active growing phase of childhood and primary school age is the period of physical growth as well as mental development of the child. The present nutritional status of School age children in India is unsatisfactory. 1) To assess the nutritional status of children between 5-15 years of age. 2) To analyse the factors associated with malnutrition among school-age children. Of the total 384 children, 215 (56%) were boys and 169 (44%) were girls. The risk of malnutrition was significantly higher among children living in joint families, children whose m2others were illiterate and children with working mothers. Stunting was the most frequent anthropometric failure (n=100, 26.04%) followed by wasting (n= 77, 20.05%) and underweight (n=70, 18.23%) respectively.137 were normal (35.68%). Gender disparity was observed in the distribution of malnutrition with boys having higher frequency of stunting, wasting and underweight than girls. Most of the school-age children in our study had poor nutritional status. Interventions such as skill-based nutrition education, fortification of food items, effective infection control, training of public healthcare workers and delivery of integrated programs are recommended.

Features of Autism in Children with Visual Impairments: A Brief Report

  Abstract: Children with visual impairments (VI) display challenges in social interaction, may have elevated repetitive behaviors, and sensory features similar to children diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD is frequently diagnosed comorbidly in children with VI, making it important for educators to better understand the behavioral similarities and differences between ASD and VI. For this study, the researchers compared 27 children with VI between the ages of 5 and 12 with 177 children with ASD using parent reports of ASD symptomology. Statistical means comparisons were conducted between these two groups on items related to social communication, repetitive behaviors and sensory features. Results: The children with VI displayed similar overall levels of autism symptoms but had better social interaction skills and less behavior and sensory problems. This pilot investigation may help educators better understand the unique needs of children with visual impairments and develop more targeted supports for children with VI who exhibit sensory differences or social communication impairments. Future research should include observational assessments and validated measures.

Effects of the Language Development Program Based on Early Childhood
Developmental Surveillance and Promotion

  Abstract: The research aimed to compare the child’s language development and the caregiver’s knowledge, attitude, and behavior before and after joining the Language Development Program Based on the Early Childhood Developmental Surveillance and Promotion Manual (DSPM). The study samples consisted of 12 caregivers and 12 children who visited the Well Baby Clinic, Medical Service Department, Sirindhorn Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand. The children were divided into two groups, 1) six 18-month-old children and 2) six 30-month-old children, that were recruited using a purposive sampling method. The instruments for collecting the data were1) a general information questionnaire, 2) Knowledge of Childhood Development Assessment Form, 3) Language Development Attitude Assessment Form, and 4) Language Development Behavior Assessment Form. The Wilcoxon matched pairs signed-ranks test statistics were used to compare the caregiver's knowledge, attitude, behavior, and child's language development before and after participation in the program. The results indicated that the language development of 18-month-old and 30-month-old children was greater than before the experiment (M.D.=3.0; SD=0 and M.D.=3.5.0; SD=0.84, respectively). After the caregivers had engaged in the program for three months, their attitudes and behavior showed statistically significant improvement (P<0.05). However, there was no statistically significant improvement in the caregivers’ knowledge after participating in the program.
