- The Association Between the Labor Force and Socio-Economic forces in
Sub-Saharan Africa: Evidence from a VECM approach
Authors: Sadık Aden DIRIR
Abstract: Since gaining independence in the 1960s, education has dramatically increased in African nations. Immediate emphasis was placed on human resource development to advance and modernize many economic areas. As a result, education was seen as a development instrument since it produced a larger number of skilled workforces, which helped to build a critical mass of experts and specialists for economic development. In this study, we explored the association between the labor force and socio-economic forces in Sub-Saharan Africa from the period 2000 to 2020. A vector error correction model was exercised to observe the long-run and short-term cointegration between the labor force and explanatory factors such as literacy rate, economic growth, government expenditure, and progression to the secondary school level. What’s more, we discerned the causality among the variables to conclude if there is a unidirectional or bidirectional relationship. The findings demonstrated that in the short run socioeconomic forces do not have any considerable impact on the labor force. Nonetheless, the long-run results revealed that economic growth and progression to the secondary education level have a positive impact on the labor force. Whilst, the Sub-Saharan African government’s expenditure presented a negative impact on the labor force. Last but not least, the literacy rate exhibited an insignificant impact which suggests how inconsequential the literacy rate is to determine the labor force in Africa. Further, the findings will assist managers, scholars, and lawmakers in identifying the appropriate types of measures required in their fields of expertise or countries of interest in order to capitalize on the labor force and upgrade the current policies and reforms concerning the workforce, employment, and job market.

- The Development of the Silk Industry in the Ottoman and Republican Periods
and Its Situation in Hatay Province
Authors: Mehmet YILDIRIM
Abstract: Silk production and silk weaving industry has been a sector that maintains its importance throughout history. This sector also requires special skills. On the other hand, it has been the number one tool that provides commercial relations between the Far East and the Western world. Silk products were not only a trade tool, but also mediated cultural exchange and therefore globalization. In this study, first of all, the historical development of sericulture and how it became widespread in Anatolia are discussed. Then, silk production and usage capacity in the Ottoman period were discussed. Since Antakya and Iskenderun were on the Silk Roads, they served as a bridge between the East and Europe. Antakya was not only a point of transfer of commercial goods, but also an important place for production. Antakya silk weaving products became famous among the wealthy of Europe and in the churches. Unfortunately, with the First World War, Antakya lost its importance in this sector to a great extent. In the Republican period, some policies were applied again to improve sericulture. However, as in all of Turkey, this sector has not regained its former power in Antakya. In the study, all this historical process has been discussed with data. Today, Turkey's share in world silk production is almost non-existent. Although some efforts have been made to improve sericulture in Antakya in recent years, these are still insufficient. In this study, some policy suggestions are presented in order to give more importance to the silk industry, which provides employment and has high added value.

- Avoiding Stupid Puma Syndrome in Organizations: The Importance of
Effective Decision-Making Process
Authors: Can BİÇER
Abstract: In this study, the importance of making effective decisions in organizations will be focused and the major steps of the effective decision-making process will be outlined. In addition, a conceptual framework will be provided based on the previous studies and literature in order to emphasize the crucial role of the effective decision making in organizations. First, a decision is an important step of selection or choice of one action from several alternative options and it is clear that decision-making is the essence of management and organizations should make decisions continually at every level and these decisions vary from managerial or strategic to routine operational decisions. However, these decisions must be capable of being implemented though they are at the individual or organizational level and should persuade other individuals as they are feasible and rational in organizations. Additionally, an organization can accomplish its short-term and long-term organizational goals through an effective decision process by avoiding solely relying on intuition or "gut reaction." Hence, decision-making is not a random process, and before making important decisions, it is important to seek good information and to avoid various challenges and common pitfalls because decisions have a long-term effect on employee motivation, organizational goals and performance. In sum, in this study, the importance of effective decision-making process will be analyzed within the concept of stupid puma syndrome and the major steps of decision-making process in organizations will be outlined.
