  • Combination of surgical exposure and fixed orthodontic appliance in
           bilateral impacted canine

    • Authors: Tita R. Utari, Edwyn Shaleh
Abstract: Objective: This case report is to describe the management of bilateral impacted canine due to the persistence of deciduous teeth with surgical procedures and retraction with orthodontic tools. Methods: Orthodontic treatment used a Straight Wire system with a 0.22 bracket slot. It began with the use of Niti 0.14 for the correction of anterior teeth crowding. Teeth 53 and 63 extraction were performed and continued with Niti 0.18 wire to correct crowding and obtain sufficient eruption spaces for teeth 13 and 23. The surgery used an open window procedure with a full-thickness triangular flap to open the canine crown, bracket placement, and canine retraction using an elastomeric chain. Results: Within five months, the crowding was corrected, and enough space was obtained for the canine eruption, and within three months, the canine had reached the occlusal plane perfectly. Conclusion: Bilateral impacted canines can be treated with a combination of surgical procedure and retraction with orthodontic treatment to achieve optimum occlusion and aesthetic function.

  • Management of central diastema with high-frenulum labialis

    • Authors: Karpov RB. Kainama, Haru S. Anggani
Abstract: Objective: To explain the management of the central diastema case in a patient with high- frenulum labialis. Methods: Using a conventional Orthodontic appliance MBT system. This method is selected to orthodontically corrected central diastema while eliminating deep bites and other existing malposition in this case. Results: Central diastema and deep bite corrected, as well as other malposition. However, the frenulum labialis which was planned to undergone frenectomy was postponed to avoid an open gingival embrasure (black triangle). Conclusion: Correction of central diastema done by using a conventional orthodontic appliance MBT system. However, the disposal of frenulum labialis should not always be done, because it should consider the possibility of the emergence of gingival embrasure (black triangle) after the Labialis frenulum was discarded.

  • Immediate reconstruction of a large myoepithelial carcinoma ex-pleomorphic
adenoma in the palate with an osteocutaneous radial forearm flap: A case
           report

    • Authors: Tatsuya Sakaguchi, Shunichi Yoshida, Daisuke Kobayashi, Takeshi Karube, Shunsuke Ochiai, Seiji Asoda
Abstract: Objective: A carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma is caused by the long-term presence of pleomorphic adenoma. It is a relatively rare occurrence in the palatine glands. Methods: A 40-year-old man was referred to our department with a complaint of an intraoral mass. At the time of the initial examination, a large elastic hard mass of approximately 10 cm in diameter accompanied by ulceration in parts was found extending from the gingiva of the molar region in the right maxilla throughout the entire palate. Based on the imaging and histopathological examination findings, the clinical diagnosis was suspected to be malignant tumor of the palate. Results: The patient underwent palatal tumor enucleation, right-sided supraomohyoid neck dissection, and immediate reconstruction with an osteocutaneous radial forearm flap under general anesthesia. The histopathological diagnosis was myoepithelial carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma. In addition, postoperative radiation therapy was performed. There has been no evidence of recurrence or metastasis for three years postoperatively. Conclusion: We report a case of large myoepithelial carcinoma ex-pleomorphic adenoma of the hard palate that was immediately reconstructed with an osteocutaneous radial forearm flap.

  • The Effect of stunting on number of primary teeth eruption among 19-60
months old stunted toddlers in Panduman Village, Jelbuk, East Java

    • Authors: Dwi Prijatmoko, Sulistyani, Rezza D. Ardhita
Abstract: Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the effect of growth stunting on the number of primary teeth eruption from a representative Panduman Village, Jelbuk, East Java. Material and Methods: This is an analytic observational with a cross sectional approach study. Parents of the stunted toddlers were invited and 25 toddlers (age between 19-60 months) were participated in the study. There were 25 normal growth toddlers who had the same age range who  were also invited in this study as for the normal control group. In this study, the tooth were considered to have erupted if the crown if the tooth was clinically visible through the gingival mucosa. Data was than devided into 4 (20-30, 31-40, 41-50 and 51-60) age categories, The average data for each category was analyzed with independent T test if necesary. Results: All primary incisors have been erupted for all age category for both stunted and normal control population. The number of primary canines were significantly difference (P> 0.02) only in the 20-30 months age cateory. It may sugest that stunting affect the eruption time of primary canines. However,  the number of erupted primary molars were not significantly difference in all age categories between stunted and normal controls groups. Conclusion: Stunting potentially affect the eruption time of primary teeth. Further study involving larger number of sampel is required to conform this findings.
