Relaxation Exercises on The Quality of Life, Perceived Stress and Ways of
Coping of Caregivers of Mentally Disabled Individuals: A Randomized
Controlled Study Protocol
Authors: Gönül GÖKÇAY; Ayşe ÇEVİRME
Abstract: Aim: It is a dynamic, multidimensional and diverse public health problem. It may arise as a temporary/permanent problem caused by a congenital or acute illness and injury, and may make individuals have to look after their disabled relatives. Caregivers carry a high risk of experiencing physical and psychological health problems. Indeed, caregivers reported higher care burden, stress, and lower quality of life than healthy child care providers. Practices that improve caregivers' knowledge of effective and safe caregiving strategies can reduce/prevent stress-related problems and improve their quality of life. Roy's Adaptation Model is one of the most widely used nursing models to increase quality of life, reduce stress and cope with various problems. The research was planned to determine the effect of an application based on education and progressive relaxation exercises on the quality of life, perceived stress and coping ways of caregivers of individuals with intellectual disabilities.Method: In the research; randomized controlled, 3 experiments, 1 control group, pretest-posttest experimental design will be used. The research sample will consist of 4 out of 10 rehabilitation centers selected using the cluster randomization method and the caregivers of the rehabilitated individuals with mental disabilities (39 individuals in each group). - THE EFFECTS OF ASTAXANTHIN ON THE NERVOUS SYSTEM
Authors: Ayris GÖKÇEOĞLU; Gül Fatma YARIM
Abstract: Astaxanthin is an antioxidant carotenoid abundant in the shells of crustaceans, salmon, trout, and other marine organisms. In both in vivo and in vitro experiments, astaxanthin has been proven to have a considerable impact on the neurological system. Astaxanthin exhibits these effects by modulating inflammation, suppressing oxidative stress, showing antioxidant effects, and suppressing neuronal apoptosis. In addition to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties, astaxanthin has the potential to be used in the prophylaxis and treatment of neurological disorders due to its ability to cross the blood-brain barrier. Astaxanthin's commercial availability, lack of side effects, protective and therapeutic properties on the nervous system suggest that it may be a promising option in the future. In this review, information about the role of astaxanthin in the nervous system and its effects on neurological disorders are summarized.

- Continuous and Social Support at Birth
Authors: Emine KINIK; Handan ÖZCAN
Abstract: Childbirth are significant moments in the life of woman, families, and societies. During this crucial moment, women need the help and comfort of a supporter. In addition to the medical support of the woman during the birth, it is significant to have a constant supporter (health professionals, family members, spouse, friend doula) during the childbirth. The continuous support of the woman during childbirth reduces the fear of childbirth, shortens the duration of labor, decreases the interventions in delivery, and increases the woman's birth satisfaction. For this reason, every woman needs to receive uninterrupted support during childbirth. Women need to receive continuous support throughout the entire birth process in terms of increasing the satisfaction of the woman and the quality of the care provided.

Abstract: Colorectal cancer, the colon tumors in the intestinal segment extending from the terminal ileum to the anal canal, causes significant changes in the patients’ life activities. Colorectal cancer is one of the cancer types that cause morbidity and mortality across the world. Its incidence and mortality rates vary in different parts of the world, and many factors have been identified that are thought to be effective in its development. Patients diagnosed with cancer need a sustainable care from the first moment of diagnosis and during/after the treatment, including palliative care, assessment, symptom management, emotional and instrumental knowledge, and confidence. Moreover, it is asserted that the psychological support to the patients and education about the disease reduce the cancer-related stress and anxiety, improve relaxation skills, reduce the risk of recurrence, and can be beneficial in developing appropriate monitoring and screening behaviors. Nurses who are involved in the care and education of patients should have the necessary basic equipment in order to identify the existing conditions in the patient, apply the necessary interventions, and provide the necessary counseling to the patient and her family. Authors: Nurdan AKCAY; Hatice UZŞEN, Dilek ZENGİN, Satı DOĞAN, Hamide Nur ÇEVİK ÖZDEMİR
Abstract: Aim: Nursing students face many patients who require palliative care in the terminal period. This study aims to determine the student nurses' experiences with the palliative care provided to children in the terminal period.Method: The study was conducted using focus group interviews, which are qualitative research methods. The sample was constituted of 12 intern student nurses who were working in the pediatric hospital of the university in 2017 in Turkey. The research inclusion criteria for students were that they must have provided palliative care or seen death. The focus group interview was held in the meeting room at the Nursing School on the day and hour when the nurses were available with four researchers. Data were analyzed together by using conventional content analysis. Results: Three main themes were determined (Preparing for death, self-care, and meeting the demands of the child and the family). It was found that nursing students providing care to pediatric patients in the terminal period experience many feelings including fear, nervousness, helplessness, shock, emotional deterioration, etc. and they do not know how to deal with these emotions.
