Space4Energy: come gli asset spaziali possono aiutarci a risolvere il
problema dell’energia

  Abstract: At the end of 2019, the European Commission presented the "European Green Deal", setting the goal of making
  Europe climate neutral by 2050.
  This goal implicitly defined the need to rapidly change our energy supply systems, which currently represent the 75% of EU greenhouse gas emissions. Recent international events in Eastern Europe have shown clearly and dramatically the urgency of an energy infrastructure that makes Europe not only climate-neutral, but also as independent and autonomous as possible.
  Finding an effective way to deal with the current scarcity of energy resources and at the same time the problem of climate change requires a complete transformation of the existing energy systems and the best possible exploitation of the so-called renewable energy sources.

LA “PIANTA TOPOGRAFICA DELLA ZONA ARCHEOLOGICA DI ROMA. ESEMPIO DI
UNIONE DI TRE LEVATE CONSECUTIVE” (1909)

  Abstract: The photomosaic of the central archaeological area of Rome, result of the union of three consecutive shots, carried out in 1909 by the Aerostieri of the Specialist Brigade of Military Engineers, guided by Captain Cesare Tardivo, represents - together with the slightly later photomosaics of Ostia (1910) and Pompeii (1911) - one of the first experiments in application of the newborn aerophotographic science to archeology and at the same time an exceptional document of the historical palimpsest of the area between the Colosseum and the Campidoglio.
  It is composed by a sequence of shots taken from a braked balloon made available by the Military Engineers, and it was presented for the first time by Tardivo himself at the International Congress of Photography in Brussels in 1910.
  It testifies the progress of the stratigraphic excavations taken in those years, with rigorous scientific method, by Giacomo Boni, as Director of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill.
  It also represents a precious testimony of the aspect that the area must have had before the demolitions of the 1920s and 1930s, aime at the opening of Via dei Fori Imperiali, and of the deep urban transformations following the building of the Monument to king Vittorio Emanuele II (Vittoriano), then still under construction.

TECHNOLOGYFORALL 2022

  Abstract: TECHNOLOGYforALL 2022, the seventh edition, has concluded. Despite the Orange Weather Alert issued by the Lazio Region and the Municipality of Rome and after the two years stop due to COVID, wanted because it would not have been appropriate to create an online-only event, we managed to carry on an event that proved to be of great interest, but above all useful for creating and expanding networks of contacts, which would have remained unreachable at a distance. We are already looking for a new location for the next edition: in fact we attended the Full Contact Meeting, by kind invitation, where we presented our event and received numerous positive feedbacks on the potential and future of the TFA.

  Abstract: The European Association of Aerial Surveying Industries (EAASI) closed a successful edition of its Partners Summit last 2 December.
  More than 70 representatives from 40 companies connected to the aerial surveying industry gathered in Rome for 3 days to discuss the current challenges of the industry as well as explore new business opportunities.
  The participants attended a series of presentations, panel discussions, and workshops covering a wide range of topics such as climate change, digital twins, or certification and standardization, among others.

  Abstract: As soon as I arrived in Oberkochen, to improve my knowledge of photogrammetry (I was only a good topographer) I was given a small volume entitled "Nur der Name war geblieben" (Armin, 1989): it was the story of the transfer of the famous "Carl
  Zeiss Stiftung ” ” from Jena to that agricultural village in Swabia, to escape the Soviet ogre. Today, about half a century after those days, I use the Italian version of that title, reduced from the imperfect to the present, to talk about the end of production, by the large German company, of the sector concerning measurement on the ground and on images . Several times I have said and written that human inventions and initiatives generally last a century or so: this is confirmed by the story of the topographical and photogrammetric division of Carl Zeiss: a "season" approximately, in the life of the large company.

  Abstract: Many of us, looking at a latest robot vacuum cleaner generation move for home, you definitely are ask yourself how this appliance “smart” is able independently to clean all surfaces, avoiding the obstacles present in the area. The answer is enclosed in the acronym SLAM (Simultaneous Localisation and Mapping), i.e. in the technique that allows a moving robot, equipped with sensors, to build the map of the environment that surrounds it and, at the same time, to use such a map to determine its location, such as shown in the sequence of images of Figure 1.
