  • The Inhibitory Effect of Paragis (Eleusine Indica) Stem Extract on the
           Growth of Staphylococcus Aureus and Escherichia Coli

      Abstract: Eleusine indica Linn Gaertn.from the family, Poaceae, generally known as Paragis, is native in the tropics and subtropical regions. It has a broad tolerance to a wide array of environmental settings, but its somatic growth is ominously reduced during dry seasons. This study is intended to validate the traditional use of eleusine indica stem as an effective antimicrobial agent, thus giving the common practice a scientific base. This study focused on the zone of inhibition and it is phytochemical components. Confirmatory test was conceded out on the stem parts of eleusine indica to obtain ethnomedicinal claims on the part. The ethanolic whole plant extract was obtained utilizing percolation for seven days and yielded 1.16% based on four replicates of 10 gram-samples. Confirmatory tests were done for the presence of Alkaloids, Flavonoids, and Tannin. The organisms were then treated with different concentrations of Paragis ( eleusin inidica ) extract, 100%,75%, 50%, 25%, negative and positive control. Extracts from the stems showed no inhibition zones with 0 diameters against MRSA S.aureus and E.coli. Therefore the null hypothesis, which says that “ Eleusine indica (Paragis) stem extract does not have significant inhibitory effects on the growth of S.aureus and e.coli” failed to be rejected. Thus, Eleusine indica extract is not a potential antibacterial agent against S.aureus and E. coli. Keywords: alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, antimicrobial, antibacterial agent

  • Assessment of Medical Residents’ Job Performance Among Nursing Staff

      Abstract: This project paper was conducted to assess the medical residents’ job performance among nursing staff in Madonna and Child Hospital. Residents are evaluated through “work ethics, communication skills, leadership, and management skills” in the hospital. It aims to provide a reasonable and stable view of the medical residents’ behavior and abilities in the workplace.  This study was conducted at Madonna and Child Hospital. Likewise, it utilizes the “Situational Leadership Theory and The Vroom-Yetton Contingency Model”. Questionnaire-checklist and personal data sheet is the main instrument used in the gathering of data for this research. This study utilizes the descriptive - correlational method of research to ascertain the accomplishment of the objective of the investigation. The aggregate of sixty nurses contributed to the study allotted in the hospital in various areas. In light of the outcomes of the study, participants ranging in ages 21-30 years mostly are female, single, one year in service, and mostly are staff nurses. Concerning work ethic, neither do nor act of dishonesty. For the communication skills, empathy using appropriate and understandable language comes highest. There is no substantial relationship between the medical residents’ job performance to the nurse-participants demographic profile.   • Health Assessment of the Employees of the Provincial Government

      Abstract: This study focus on the mandate of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) on health and well-being of the employees that has been neglected by present and previous administration; through various memoranda issued by the CSC, the Provincial Government established its health and wellness program for the employees. To effectively implement the program, technical expertise from the Provincial Health Office (PHO) was sought to formulate an Assessment Tool to be used to assess the health status of the employees and to identify the contributory or risk factors for a person’s likelihood to acquire disease. Using a structured survey questionnaire, the result shows that 45% of the total number of employees in terms of age are between 45 to 60 years old and 61% are presently diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes, cardio-vascular disorder, asthma and cancer. In the course of the study, it shows that the possibility of a person to develop a disease is through his lifestyle (Modifiable Risk Factor) and family history or hereditary (Non-Modifiable Risk Factors). This so called life style diseases prompted the emergence of health and wellness program as a corporate responsibility of the employers to help their employees cope with their health condition.   • Attitude, Practices, and Compliance on Prenatal Visit Among Pregnant Women
           In Rural Health Center

      Abstract: This study aimed to determine the attitude, practices, and compliance of pregnant women on a prenatal visit among rural health centers.  The study used the descriptive-correlational research design and gathered data using a quantitative approach through a survey questionnaire.  Descriptive statistics, Pearson r moment correlation coefficient analysis, and regression analysis used to organize study results.  It was found that pregnant women were pregnant at age 25 years old and below, more than half of them were married, and almost half are single mothers. One-third of the participants have earned a college degree, are permanent/regular employees, with a monthly income of Php 10,000 and below.  Almost all of them are Phil-health members.  Pregnant women have high regard to prenatal care, highly practiced and observed monitoring and compliance of essential prenatal care during prenatal visits.  In the end, pregnant women fully complied with the essential prenatal care services.  The better the practices of women received during the prenatal visit, the better is their level of compliance with prenatal visits. Therefore, pregnant women are compliant with prenatal visits, and the increasing number of their pregnancies also created a positive attitude and their high practices for prenatal visits.   • Lived Experience of Clinical Instructors on the Integration of Essential
           Intrapartum and Newborn Care Protocol

      Abstract: This study explored the lived experiences of clinical instructors on the integration of Essential Intrapartum and Newborn Care (EINC) protocol employing Husserlian Descriptive phenomenology. The experiences and emergent themes were described, and enabling and hindering factors were identified. The study consists of eight participants which were purposively selected among four nursing schools in Bukidnon. Interviews were conducted, tape'recorded, transcribed, and then transcripts analyzed using Colaizzi's descriptive phenomenological method. Ten thematic concepts emerged as follows: (1) impact of integration, (2) negative outcomes, (3) advantages of integration, (4) challenges in teaching, (5) managing challenges, (6) encountering opportunities, (7) positive observations, (8) hindrances to compliance, (9) issues on integration, and (10) support to instructions. Hindrances identified to integration of the protocol are as follows; justifying non-compliance in affiliating hospitals, staffing problems in greater number of patients, problems with the hospital facility and resistance to change among health care providers. The experiences convey meaning of two opposing realities of positive and negative outcomes. However, these hindrances need not be the principal reason not to scale up the implementation of the protocol. But rather an inspiration to continually look into ways to strengthen its dynamic application both in the academe and in the hospital settings. The EINC protocol is the means to an end in attaining a decline in maternal and infant mortality rate. Keywords: EINC protocol, nursing curriculum, clinical instructors, phenomenology, Bukidnon
