           in the Doi Moi Period

    • Authors: Do Danh Huan
Abstract: Due to the lingering impacts of the Vietnam war and the difficulties that Vietnam has been confronting in the post-war period, traditional cultural values in rural areas in North Vietnam were neglected. Since Đổi mới (in 1986), the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Vietnamese government have drawn more concern and been thoroughly aware of the role of culture on Vietnam’s developing path of the country. In addition, the remarkable growth of Vietnam’s economy recently paves the way for Vietnamese residents to rebuild and renew their spiritual lifeas well as enjoy benefits created based on traditional cultural values. This research elucidates the resilience of conventional cultural values in rural areas in North Vietnam in the Đổi mới period, particularly emphasizing the following aspects: Inhabitants’ contributions to build and rebuild temples and pagodas; reinstating conventional rituals and festivals; restoring family customs, and compiling village convention.

  • Designing a Framework for Employment-Growth Targeting in Nigeria

    • Authors: Adetunji Adeniyi
Abstract: Unemployment in Nigeria has assumed disturbing proportions despite fifteen years of sustained economic growth outcomes between 2000 and 2014. This needs very urgent attention from policy makers since the problem has further resulted in other social vices like: armed robbery, kidnapping, political thuggery, pipe-line vandalisation, and social unrest.Unfortunately, policy makers have approached the deep-rooted problems with only tactical and superficial methods. There has been no serious attempt to target employment based on the economic fundamentals; and, the interdependencies and the interconnectedness of the various sectors and the working of the economy.Using Johansen co-integration, and applying Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) regression to time series sectoral economic data of Gross Value Added (GVA), employment, interest rate, wage rate, and inflation rate, collected from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) this study constructed a framework that policy makers can use to target growth and employment simultaneously.

  • Vietnam Land Market: Definitions, Characteristics, and Effects

    • Authors: Tuan Tran NGUYEN
Abstract: The land is a vital resource, and the world’s powers that want to develop must rely on land as their core. Vietnam is in economic renewal, so whether the country can produce as expected or not depends on how land is used. The land conversion is continuously changing, leading to the constant volatility of the land market. Besides, the land is a unique commodity, and in a socialist country like Vietnam, only land use rights can be bought and sold. The article uses descriptive and explanatory methods to highlight the results that need research. This article also shows Vietnam’s land market characteristics through the primary market and the secondary market. This market decentralization creates a two-price mechanism, meaning that a piece of land is priced differently depending on the organization that uses it. This mechanism has created difficulties in producing an available land bank, leading to a reduction in investment attraction in this potential country.
