  • Comparison and Analysis of the Stages of the Journey of the Righteous Soul
to Heaven in the Manichean and Zoroastrian Religions

    • Abstract: In various religions, there are beliefs about the fate of the righteous person’s soul in the afterlife. In this research, we examine and compare the stages of the ascension of the righteous soul until reaching Heaven in the Manichean and Zoroastrian religions. At each stage it is examined what happens and what heavenly gifts the righteous soul receives. The findings show that these two religions have similarities and differences in the beliefs related to the ascension of the righteous soul to Heaven. According to the findings of this research, it was determined that there was a ceremony in the Manichaean religion in which fortune telling was done to select the Teachers, the Elect and Church Leaders. In this ceremony, the ascension to Heaven of that person was determined with omen, and if their omens were recognized as good, they were elected as teachers or elected members or church leaders. Also, in this article, due to the fact that there are similarities between Kird-īr’s journey to heaven and the journey of the righteous soul to heaven in Manichaeism, the manner of his journey is also examined.

  • A Comparative Study of the Use of Japanese Majolica Tiles in Modern Japan
           and Japanese Colonial Taiwan

    • Abstract: This paper discussed the connection between “Japanese majolica tiles” in modern Japan and Japanese colonial Taiwan, and the differences in the way tiles are used during these periods from both Japanese and Taiwanese perspectives. Japanese majolica tiles were manufactured in Japan primarily during the Taisho period (1912-1926) and early Showa period (1926-1945), with relief surfaces covered with multicolored lead glazes. The tiles produced in Japan at that time were mainly imitations and developments of a Victorian tile product called majolica, which was imported from England and exported to countries around the world. The results of the survey indicate differences in the use of tiles, with their usage in different architectural styles and cultures becoming apparent. In Japan, the connection between tiles and modern concepts can be noted. In addition, post-modern tile production and architectural preservation suggest that differences in the amount of extant Japanese majolica tiles in Japan and Taiwan have arisen.

  • The Pictorial Saga of Social Control: An Analysis of Political and Social
           Symbolism in Dunhuang Murals

    • Abstract: The objective of this study is to investigate the historical role of Dunhuang murals as a tool for political and social control. By conducting a thorough analysis of the themes, elements, and textual content of the murals, the study findings revealed how these artworks reflected the political ideologies, social norms, and moral values prevalent during their creation. This article aims to clarify this perspective from a multidisciplinary standpoint, drawing upon insights from art history, political science, and sociology to provide fresh interpretations grounded in both theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence. The research underscores that art serves as a reflection of political will, engages in a dynamic interplay with social control, and serves as an innovative platform for political propaganda, thereby demonstrating a profound interconnection and intricate relationship between art, power dynamics, and societal structures.

  • Challenges of Heritage Management in China: A Case Study of Overplanning
           in Dimen Village

    • Abstract: China has 12 different heritage protection systems, which may result in multiple systems regulating and planning for a single heritage site. This study focuses on Dimen village, which is protected under three different systems, and examines five plans collected during fieldwork in 2019 and 2022 to analyze the varying contents of these protection systems. The findings revealed that distinct value assessment criteria for heritage sites exist across different protection systems, leading to differences in how protection areas are demarcated, key focuses established, and methods of utilization implemented. Furthermore, the study highlights the lack of necessary continuity between previous and subsequent plans within frequent planning cycles, which often results in limited implementation. In addition, this study emphasizes the low level of participation by local residents in the planning process and argues for the improvement of this aspect to ensure the effective implementation and preservation of heritage sites.
