  • A Robust and Reliable Routing Protocol for Energy-Constrained Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
    • Authors: Md. Mahfuzur Rahman Bosunia|Md. Abdur Razzaque|Md. Manowarul Islam
Abstract: The mobility of the nodes and time-varying wireless channel quality causes routes to fail frequently in a mobile ad hoc network (MANET), decreasing data delivery performance of the network. In this paper, we first propose a robust and reliable energy-aware routing metric, known as RRE, that combines three sub-metrics: link lifetime, link reliability and residual energy of nodes. Then, we develop a robust and reliable routing protocol, R2 -Routing, and a local route recovery mechanism based on the proposed RRE metric. Thus, our routing protocol not only discovers an efficient route between a source and a destination, but also takes routing decisions adaptively to accommodate in such a dynamic network environment. The simulation results, carried out in NS-2, show that our proposed R2E-Routing protocol outperforms the state-of-the-art protocols in terms of throughput, reliability, energy-efficiency, etc.

  • A formally verified concurrent wavelet transform based image compression and transmission technique
    • Authors: Kamrul Hasan Talukder|Sheikh Hasib Bin Zaman|Rifat Ahmmad Rashid
Abstract: In this paper, we present a concurrent wavelet transform based image compression and image transmission method that uses multiple threads for wavelet transform. We present the way how to specify the communicating threads using Message Sequence Charts (MSC) and how to formally verify the correctness of the concurrent wavelet transform. Symbolic Model Verifier (SMV) is used for formal verification. The evaluation result of the transmission shows better performance compared to existing method.

  • Horizontal position control of a Small Scale Helicopter Using Adaptive Backstepping Controller
    • Authors: Tushar Kanti Roy
Abstract: The problem of stabilization of horizontal position for hover flight mode of an unmanned autonomous helicopter (UAH) in a gusty environment is considered. The controllers design is based on generic linear model which successfully describe the behavior of most small scale helicopters. A recursive (backstepping) design procedure is used to design the adaptive controller for longitudinal and lateral dynamics based on control Lyapunov approach. For comparison purposes we design another controller based on the linear quadratic regulator (LQR) criteria. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed controllers can effectively attenuate the gust effects and achieve rapid and accurate horizontal position tracking when gusts occur.
