  • Electric field microsensor based on the structure of piezoelectric
           interdigitated cantilever beams

      Abstract: Abstract This paper presents the design, fabrication, and preliminary experimental result of an electric field microsensor based on the structure of piezoelectric interdigitated cantilevers with staggered vertical vibration mode. The working principle of this electric field microsensor is demonstrated, and the induced charges and structural parameters of this microsensor are simulated by the finite element method. The electric field microsensor was fabricated by Micro-Electro Mechanical Systems (MEMS) technique. Each cantilever is a multilayer compound structure (Al/Si3N4/Pt/PZT/Pt/Ti/SiO2/Si), and Piezoelectric, PieZoelectric ceramic Transducer (PZT) (PbZrxTi(1−x)O3) layer, prepared by sol-gel method, is used as the piezoelectric material to drive the cantilevers vibrating. This electric field microsensor was tested under the DC electric field with the field intensity from 0 to 5×104 V/m. The output voltage signal of the electric field microsensor has a good linear relationship to the intensity of applied electric field. The performance could be improved with the optimized design of structure, and reformative fabrication processes of PZT material.

  • Architecture model and resource graph building algorithm for detailed FPGA
           architecture design

      Abstract: Abstract This paper addresses the issue of designing the detailed architectures of Field-Programmable Gate Arrays (FPGAs), which has a great impact on the overall performances of an FPGA in practice. Firstly, a novel FPGA architecture description model is proposed based on an easy-to-use file format known as YAML. This format permits the description of any detailed architecture of hard blocks and channels. Then a general algorithm of building FPGA resource graph is presented. The proposed model is scalable and capable of dealing with detailed architecture design and can be used in FPGA architecture evaluation system which is developed to enable detailed architecture design. Experimental results show that a maximum of 16.36% reduction in total wirelength and a maximum of 9.34% reduction in router effort can be obtained by making very little changes to detailed architectures, which verifies the necessity and effectiveness of the proposed model.

  • Design of lightweight PUF circuit based on selectable cross-coupled

      Abstract: Abstract By analyzing the principle of process variations, a lightweight Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) circuit based on selectable cross-coupled inverters is proposed in this paper. Firstly, selectable cross-coupled inverters are chosen for two delay paths. Simultaneously, the circuit takes challenge signal to control each delay path. The PUF cell circuit is implemented in Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) 65 nm CMOS technology and the layout area is 2.94 μm × 1.68 μm. Then the 64-bit PUF circuit is achieved with the cascade connection of cell circuits. The simulation results show that the randomness is 49.4% and the reliability is 96.5%. Compared to the other works, this PUF circuit improves the encrypt performance and greatly reduces the area.

  • IER: ID-ELoc-RLoc based architecture for next generation internet

      Abstract: Abstract The scalability and mobility issues in current Internet architecture have drawn a lot of attentions from researchers. However, there are still many problems in current solutions. In this paper, we argue that three spaces, i.e., endpoint IDentifier (ID), Endpoint Locator (ELoc) and Routing Locator (RLoc), are necessary to realize two separations, i.e., separating identifier from locator and separating edge networks from the transit core. Following this argument, we design ID-ELoc-RLoc based architecture, i.e., IER, a separation approach to solve both mobility and scalability issues. After separating identifier from locator, mobile endpoints can ensure continuity of communications across IP address changes since their IDs do not change during moving. After separating edge networks from the transit core, the size and dynamics of global routing table would not be affected by traffic engineering, multi-homing, etc. in edge networks. In this paper, we introduce the definitions, framework, and implementation considerations of our IER architecture in details.

  • Gauss periods and cyclic codes from cyclotomic sequences of small orders

      Abstract: Abstract Let p = ef + 1 be an odd prime with positive integers e and f. In this paper, we calculate the values of Gauss periods of order e = 3, 4, 6 over a finite field GF(q), where q is a prime with q≠p. As applications, several cyclotomic sequences of order e = 3, 4, 6 are employed to construct a number of classes of cyclic codes over GF(q) with prime length. Under certain conditions, the linear complexity and reciprocal minimal polynomials of cyclotomic sequences are calculated, and the lower bounds on the minimum distances of these cyclic codes are obtained.

      Abstract: Abstract In this paper, the period distribution of cyclic codes over R = F q + uF q + ⋯ + u m−1 F q is studied, where u m = 0 and q is a prime power. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of period of cyclic codes over R is given. The period distributions of cyclic codes over R and their dual codes are determined by employing generator polynomial. The counting formulas of the period distributions of cyclic codes over R and their dual codes are obtained.

  • Data preprocessing and re kernel clustering for letter

      Abstract: Abstract Many classifiers and methods are proposed to deal with letter recognition problem. Among them, clustering is a widely used method. But only one time for clustering is not adequately. Here, we adopt data preprocessing and a re kernel clustering method to tackle the letter recognition problem. In order to validate effectiveness and efficiency of proposed method, we introduce re kernel clustering into Kernel Nearest Neighbor classification (KNN), Radial Basis Function Neural Network (RBFNN), and Support Vector Machine (SVM). Furthermore, we compare the difference between re kernel clustering and one time kernel clustering which is denoted as kernel clustering for short. Experimental results validate that re kernel clustering forms fewer and more feasible kernels and attain higher classification accuracy.

  • Burst-LDA: A new topic model for detecting bursty topics from stream text

      Abstract: Abstract Topic models such as Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) have been successfully applied to many text mining tasks for extracting topics embedded in corpora. However, existing topic models generally cannot discover bursty topics that experience a sudden increase during a period of time. In this paper, we propose a new topic model named Burst-LDA, which simultaneously discovers topics and reveals their burstiness through explicitly modeling each topic’s burst states with a first order Markov chain and using the chain to generate the topic proportion of documents in a Logistic Normal fashion. A Gibbs sampling algorithm is developed for the posterior inference of the proposed model. Experimental results on a news data set show our model can efficiently discover bursty topics, outperforming the state-of-the-art method.

      Abstract: Abstract This paper presents a non-parametric topic model that captures not only the latent topics in text collections, but also how the topics change over space. Unlike other recent work that relies on either Gaussian assumptions or discretization of locations, here topics are associated with a distance dependent Chinese Restaurant Process (ddCRP), and for each document, the observed words are influenced by the document’s GPS-tag. Our model allows both unbound number and flexible distribution of the geographical variations of the topics’ content. We develop a Gibbs sampler for the proposal, and compare it with existing models on a real data set basis.

  • Design of high voltage power converter for traveling wave tube amplifier

      Abstract: Abstract Traveling Wave Tubes (TWTs) are widely used in the radar and communications system as RF power amplifiers. A highly sophisticated power supply is required by TWT. In order to meet the severe requirements of Traveling Wave Tube Amplifier (TWTA), a novel two-stage topology high voltage converter for TWTA is proposed. The converter is based on Zero-Voltage Switching and Zero-Current Switching (ZVS/ZCS) resonant techniques. The high voltage converter operation principles are investigated and major features of the converter are discussed. The power switching mode of ZVS/ZCS is obtained. The experimental results show that the converter has good soft switching characteristics. Compared to the conventional hard switched Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) techniques, the high efficiency and low ripple of the converter for TWTA are realized. The efficiency of High Voltage Electronic Power Conditioners (HV-EPC) over 93.5% under the condition of 38∼46 V input voltage and 260∼300 W input power. The switching frequency of first-stage (preregulator) of HV-EPC is 89 kHz and the switching frequency of second-stage (postregulator) is 44.5 kHz. The highest output voltage of the HV-EPC is helix voltage which is about −6.8 kV. It is especially suitable for TWTA utilized in space satellite applications due to its high switching frequency and high power density.

  • Analog predistortion linearizer on reducing corrected amplitude overshoot

      Abstract: Abstract This paper presents a dual-nonlinear branch linearizer for reducing the corrected amplitude overshoot of conventional single nonlinear branch linearizer. Theoretical analysis is carried out, the analysis is verified by simulation, and a prototype of Ka band 25.28∼26.08 GHz dual nonlinear branch linearizer is achieved. It indicates that the corrected amplitude overshoot is less than 0.5 dB, the C/I3 improvement is more than 10 dB related to a single carrier IBO 9 dB, when it is linked and tested for 50 W spacebrone Travelling Wave Tube Amplifier (TWTA).

  • Research on input impedance of dipole antenna in GTEM cell

      Abstract: Abstract The formula of input impedance of dipole antenna in Gigahertz Transverse ElectroMagnetic (GTEM) cell based on the dyadic Green’s function is first obtained in this paper. The validation of the formula is verified by the results of theoretical derivation and simulation with well agreements. In comparison with the formula of input impedance in free space, the relationship between the change of input impedance with the length of antenna and the position of antenna in GTEM cell is obtained. In addition, some meaningful conclusions are presented, which not only can be referred by the further research of ElectroMagnetic Interference (EMI) measurements in GTEM cell, but also provide the theoretical basis for testing compensation and error analysis.

  • Research on technology of Controlled Source Radio MagnetoTelluric

      Abstract: Abstract The basic theory and principle of the artificial Controlled Source Radio MagnetoTelluric (CSRMT) method is studied and a novel CSRMT transmitter in kHz frequency band is designed. The specific circuit and measured results of some key modules in transmitter are presented, and some outdoor experimental tests have been carried out, which shows that the completed prototype of transmitter can generate a continuous sine current with frequency up to 35.33 kHz, peak-to-peak amplitude up to 40 A, and realize a reliable transmitting mode with multi-frequency and high-current. The transmitter has a wide operating band, large magnetic moment and high waveform fidelity, and can meet the requirements of shallow geological exploration with high-resolution.

  • Non-destructive pavement layer thickness measurement using empirical mode
           decomposition with GPR

      Abstract: Abstract Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is an effective Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) technique for highway pavement surveys, which is able to acquire continuous pavement data compared with traditional core drilling method. In this study, we proposed an accurate and efficient method to estimate the thickness of each pavement layer using an air-coupled GPR system. For this work, the main difficulties are estimating each pavement layer’s time delay and dielectric constant. We first give the basic signal model for pavement evaluation, and then present an Intrinsic Mode Functions (IMFs) product detector to determine each pavement layer’s time delay. This method is based on Empirical Mode Decomposition (EMD), which is an adaptive signal decomposition procedure and proved to be suitable for suppressing noises in GPR signal. The dielectric constant was determined by metal reflection measurement. The laboratory and highway experiments illustrate that the proposed thickness estimation method yields reasonable result, thus meets the requirements of practical highway pavement survey with massive GPR data.

  • A novel low distortion high linearity CMOS bootstrapped switch

      Abstract: Abstract This paper proposes a novel low distortion high linearity CMOS bootstrapped switch, and the proposed switch can alleviate the nonlinear distortion of the on-resistance by eliminating first order signal-dependent variation of the overdrive voltage. Based on a 0.18 m μ standard CMOS process, the simulation results show that at 100 MHz sampling clock frequency and 49 MHz input signal with 2V pp, the proposed switch in differential mode has a Spurious-Free Dynamic Range (SFDR) of 90.1 dB.

      Abstract: Abstract Based on the observation that both subthreshold and gate leakage depend on transistors width, this paper introduces a feasible method to fast estimate leakage current in buffers. In simulating of leakage current with swept transistor width, we found that gate leakage is not always a linear function of the device geometry. Subsequently, this paper presented the theoretical analysis and experimental evidence of this exceptional gate leakage behavior and developed a design methodology to devise a low-leakage and high-performance buffer with no penalty in area using this deviation.

  • Widely linear RLS constant modulus algorithm for complex-valued
           noncircular signals

      Abstract: Abstract Based on the constant modulus criterion, a new Widely Linear (WL) blind equalizer and a novel widely linear recursive least square constant modulus algorithm are proposed to improve the blind equalization performance for complex-valued noncircular signals. The new algorithm takes advantage of the WL filtering theory by taking full use of second-order statistical information of the complex-valued noncircular signals. Therefore, the weight vector contains the complete second-order information of the real and imaginary parts to decrease the residual inter-symbol interference effectively. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed scheme can significantly improve the equalization performance for complex-valued noncircular signals compared with traditional blind equalization algorithms.

  • New method for PAPR reduction based on union strategy in OFDM system

      Abstract: Abstract Because of the high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) in Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) system, a union algorithm for PAPR reduction, combined with modified Active Constellation Extension Smart Gradient-Project(ACE-SGP) algorithm and adaptive clipping algorithm, is proposed in this paper. First of all, an adaptive strategy is used to control the size of clipping level A. Secondly, a novel step factor µ is adopted to complete iterative computations in order to increase the convergence speed greatly. Simulation results show that the modified algorithm has reduced the PAPR and improved the convergence speed significantly without side information and any processing at the receiver end.

  • Random forest for intermediate descriptor fusion in shot boundary

      Abstract: Abstract Shot boundary detection is the fundamental part in many real applications as video retrieval and so on. This paper tackles the problem of video segment obtaining in complex movie videos. Firstly, intermediate descriptor is proposed to depict the variation of both abrupt and gradual change in shot boundaries, which is formed by distance vector on Local Binary Pattern (LBP), GIST (GIST) or their fusion. Instead of just using the adjacent frames distance, intermediate descriptor keeps the distances between current frame and consecutive frames. It comprehensively characterizes local temporal structure, which is especially important for gradual change. For the excellent ability for feature fusion in random forests, it is adopted here to verify the fusion effect of intermediate descriptor on LBP and GIST. The whole experiments are designed on the subset of TRECVid 2013 INS (INstance Search) task to verify the effectiveness of proposed intermediate descriptor and the fusion ability for random forest. Compared with static and adaptive thresholds approaches, the best performance can be achieved by post-fusion of intermediate descriptor on LBP and GIST.

  • On the degree of completeness of cryptographic functions

      Abstract: Abstract This paper discusses the degree of completeness of cryptographic functions, which is one of the cryptographic criteria should be considered in the design of stream ciphers. We establish the relationships between the degree of completeness and other cryptographic criteria. For resilient Boolean functions, a method to enhance the degree of completeness is proposed, while the nonlinearity and the algebraic degree do not decrease. Moreover, two constructions of resilient functions are provided, which have optimal degree of completeness, high nonlinearity, and high algebraic degree.
