Focused on the sensitivity of backscatter from the scatterometer measurement and advanced synthetic aperture radar (ASAR) images to cereal parameters of rice, nine acquisitions, including rice parameters related eco-physiological variables and scattering coefficients, have been carried over the paddy field corresponding to rice growth stages. This paper analyzes the relationship between the corresponding backscatter to the cereal parameters based on the measurement at the interesting bands, polarizations, and incidence angels. Further, a modified water cloud model is built based on the ground measurement and advanced integrated equation model (AIEM), and then cereal parameters from ASAR images are retrieved and verified. The research results show that the sensitivity of backscatter to cereals from the sensor of the radar scatterometer could be helpful to build the retrieve model for synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images, which can achieve the scientific goals of the joint monitoring of ground and sky for cereal crops.
       
  • Processing Mechanism of Chinese Verbal Jokes: Evidence from ERP and Neural
           Oscillations

The past research has revealed different stages and corresponding functional brain activities involved in humor-processing in terms of time and space dimensions, highlighting the effects of the time windows of about 400 ms, 600 ms, and 900 ms. However, much less is known about humor processing in light of the frequency dimension. A total of 36 Chinese participants were recruited in this experiment, with Chinese jokes, nonjokes, and nonsensical sentences used as the stimuli. The experimental results showed that there were significant differences among conditions in the P200 effect, which signified that the incongruity detection had already been integrated and perceived at about 200 ms, prior to the semantic integration at about 400 ms. This pre-processing is specific to Chinese verbal jokes due to the simultaneous involvement of both orthographic and phonologic parts in processing Chinese characters. The analysis on the frequency dimension indicated that beta’s power particularly reflected the characteristics of different stages in Chinese verbal humor processing. Jokes’ and nonsensical sentences’ relative power changes on the beta band ranked significantly higher than that of nonjokes at about 200 ms, which suggested the existence of more difficulties in meaning construction in pre-processing the incongruities. This indicated a continuity between the analysis of event related potential (ERP) components and neural oscillations and revealed the key role of the beta frequency band in Chinese verbal joke processing.

We assume that the primary channel operates in a time division multiple address (TDMA) manner. Thus, spectrum sensing is operating in a slot-by-slot basis. In contrast to the conventional Bayesian updating using only one observation, in this work, we propose to perform the update in a concatenated fashion with all the observations available from the secondary users (SUs). In the proposed scheme, a predefined threshold on the belief is used for determining the channel activity. With the threshold, the proposed scheme is more flexible in the system operation than the simple majority vote scheme, in which no such threshold is available. We compare, by simulations, the performance of the proposed concatenated update scheme with that of the majority vote scheme and show that the probabilities of correctly detecting a busy state and an idle state are about 1 as the number of SUs is as large as 15, so the effects of the further increase in the number of SUs are limited.

Ogiela, Hsing-Chung ChenAbstractA peer-to-peer (P2P) multimedia conferencing service is operating that users share their resources to each other on the Internet. It can solve the problem in the centralized conferencing architecture, such as the centralized loading, single point error, and expensive infrastructure. However, P2P networks have the problem that a peer has a difference between the physical location and logical location in the overlay network. In the viewpoint of P2P networks, the nearest conference resource may be far away geographically. The P2P-session initiation protocol (P2P-SIP) multimedia conference is to construct an application-based logical multicast network efficiently according to physical network information. Thus, this paper proposes a real-time streaming relay mechanism for P2P conferences on hierarchical overlay networks. The real-time streaming relay mechanism can improve the transportation efficiency of conferencing stream exchange well based on the application-layer multicast (ALM) structure and the hierarchical overlay networks.

A dynamic resource allocation table is critical for optimizing the performance to the mobile system, including the doctors, nurses, or other relevant health workers. We have designed a smart dynamic resource allocation model by using the C4.5 algorithm and cumulative distribution for optimizing the weight of resource allocated for the five major attributes in a cooperation communications system. Weka is used in this study. The class of concept is the performance of the app, optimal or suboptimal. Three generations of optimization of the weight in accordance with the optimizing rate are shown.

WangAbstractThe 1.55-μm quantum-dot (QD) micropillar cavities are strongly required as single photon sources (SPSs) for silica-fiber-based quantum information processing. Theoretical analysis shows that the adiabatic distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) structure may greatly improve the quality of a micropillar cavity. An InGaAsP/InP micropillar cavity is originally difficult, but it becomes more likely usable with inserted tapered (thickness decreased towards the center) distributed DBRs. Simulation turns out that, incorporating adiabatically tapered DBRs, a Si/SiO2-InP hybrid micropillar cavity, which enables weakly coupling InAs/InP quantum dots (QDs), can even well satisfy strong coupling at a smaller diameter. Certainly, not only the tapered structure, other adiabatic designs, e.g., both DBR layers getting thicker and one thicker one thinner, also improve the quality, reduce the diameter, and degrade the fabrication difficulty of Si/SiO2-InP hybrid micropillar cavities. Furthermore, the problem of the thin epitaxial semiconductor layer can also be greatly resolved by inserting adiabatic InGaAsP/InP DBRs. With tapered DBRs, the InGaAsP/InP-air-aperture micro-pillar cavity serves as an efficient, coherent, and monolithically producible 1.55-μm single-photon source (SPS). The adiabatic design is thus an effective way to obtain prospective candidates for 1.55-μm QD SPSs.

It can ease various different tasks for us. On one hand, IoT is useful for us, on the other hand, it has many serious security threats, like data breaches, side-channel attacks, and virus and data authentication. Classical cryptographic algorithms, like the Rivest-Shamir-Adleman (RSA) algorithm, work well under the classical computers. But the technology is slowly shifting towards quantum computing, which has immense processing power and is more than enough to break the current cryptographic algorithms easily. So it is required that we have to design quantum cryptographic algorithms to prevent our systems from security breaches even before quantum computers come in the market for commercial uses. IoT will also be one of the disciplines, which needs to be secured to prevent any malicious activities. In this paper, we review the common security threats in IoT and the presently available solutions with their drawbacks. Then quantum cryptography is introduced with some of its variations. And finally, the analysis has been carried out in terms of the pros and cons of implementing quantum cryptography for IoT security.

In this paper, we observed the non-classical photon number distribution directly with a multi-pixel photon counter (MPPC) instead of a classic Hanbury-Brown and Twiss (HBT) system. The detector’s photon-number resolving ability was characterized by quantum detector tomography. To show the quantum feature of the detector, we further plotted the Wigner function, which was obtained corresponding to the positive operator value measure (POVM) elements. Finally, we declared the observation of non-classical photon statistics from a single color center in nanodiamond by using this detector.

    • Abstract: Publication date: September 2019Source: Journal of Electronic Science and Technology, Volume 17, Issue 3Author(s): Wei-Shao Huang, Wei Zhang, Yi-Dong HuangAbstractFor a compact quantum key distribution (QKD) sender for the polarization encoding BB84 protocol, an eavesdropper could take a side-channel attack by measuring the spatial information of photons to infer their polarizations. The possibility of this attack can be reduced by introducing an aperture in the QKD sender, however, the effect of the aperture on the QKD security lacks of quantitative analysis. In this paper, we analyze the mutual information between the actual keys encoded at this QKD sender and the inferred keys at the eavesdropper (Eve), demonstrating the effect of the aperture to eliminate the spatial side-channel information quantitatively. It shows that Eve’s potential on eavesdropping spatial side-channel information is totally dependent on the optical design of the QKD sender, including the source arrangement and the aperture. The height of compact QKD senders with integrated light-emitting diode (LED) arrays could be controlled under several millimeters, showing great potential on applications in portable equipment.

  • Design of Computationally Efficient Sharp FIR Filter Utilizing Modified
           Multistage FRM Technique for Wireless Communications Systems

A sharp digital filter of extremely narrow transition-width with lower stop band ripples offers alias-free switching among the preferred frequency bands. A computationally competent low pass filter (LPF) structure based on the multistage frequency response masking (FRM) approach is proposed for the design of sharp finite impulse response (FIR) filters which are suitable for wireless communications applications. In comparison of basic FRM with other existing multistage FRM structures, the proposed structure has a narrow transition bandwidth and higher stop band attenuation with significant reduction in terms of the number of computational steps. A design example is incorporated to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed approach. Simulation results establish the improvement of the proposed scheme over other recently published design strategies.
       
  • No-Reference Image Quality Assessment Method Based on Visual Parameters

    • Abstract: Publication date: June 2019Source: Journal of Electronic Science and Technology, Volume 17, Issue 2Author(s): Yu-Hong Liu, Kai-Fu Yang, Hong-Mei YanAbstractRecent studies on no-reference image quality assessment (NR-IQA) methods usually learn to evaluate the image quality by regressing from human subjective scores of the training samples. This study presented an NR-IQA method based on the basic image visual parameters without using human scored image databases in learning. We demonstrated that these features comprised the most basic characteristics for constructing an image and influencing the visual quality of an image. In this paper, the definitions, computational method, and relationships among these visual metrics were described. We subsequently proposed a no-reference assessment function, which was referred to as a visual parameter measurement index (VPMI), based on the integration of these visual metrics to assess image quality. It is established that the maximum of VPMI corresponds to the best quality of the color image. We verified this method using the popular assessment database—image quality assessment database (LIVE), and the results indicated that the proposed method matched better with the subjective assessment of human vision. Compared with other image quality assessment models, it is highly competitive. VPMI has low computational complexity, which makes it promising to implement in real-time image assessment systems.

Based on the parameters from weather research and forecast (WRF), such as the water content, atmospheric temperature, and humidity profile, the simulation data for the advanced Himawari imager (AHI) infrared radiative (IR) channels of Himawari-8 are obtained. Simulated results based on HIRTM agree well with the observed data. Further, the movement, development, and change of the cloud are well predicated. And the simulation of IR cloud image for the weather forecast has been obtained. This paper provides an improved method for evaluation and improvement of regional numerical model for weather forecast.

Since the original stabilization parameter in this method is frequency-dependent, the convergence of stationary iterations shows obvious dependence on frequency and slow convergence can be observed in some frequency bands. To avoid this dependence and obtain fast convergence in a wide frequency band, a frequency-independent stabilization parameter is introduced. This parameter is chosen proportionally to the average mesh length and inversely proportionally to the wavelength. Numerical examples are proposed to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
       
  • Oscillatory-Plus-Transient Signal Decomposition Using TQWT and MCA

The process uses the tunable Q-factor wavelet transform (TQWT): The oscillatory component is modeled as a signal that can be sparsely denoted by high Q-factor TQWT; similarly, the transient component is modeled as a piecewise smooth signal that can be sparsely denoted using low Q-factor TQWT. Since the low and high Q-factor TQWT has low coherence, the morphological component analysis (MCA) can effectively decompose the signal into oscillatory and transient components. The corresponding optimization problem of MCA is resolved by the split augmented Lagrangian shrinkage algorithm (SALSA). The applications of the proposed method to speech, electroencephalo-graph (EEG), and electrocardiograph (ECG) signals are included.

However, due to the randomness of the harvested energy and the interference constraint at the primary users (PUs), the limited transmission power of secondary users (SUs) may reduce the service rate of SUs. To solve this problem, this paper investigates a cooperative transmission method where a zero-forcing beamforming method is used in the EH based secondary network. Considering the transmission power constraint and energy causality, we derive the closed-form solution of the optimal transmission power for the secondary source and relays, which achieves the maximal stable throughput of the secondary network. Numerical results show the impact of different system parameters to the maximal stable throughput. In addition, compared with the traditional decode-and-forward (DF) scheme, the cooperative beamforming method achieves higher stable throughput under an high quality source-to-relay channel.

CFAS and CFAS/MgO were deposited on the i-Ge(111) substrate. In-situ reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED) patterns showed epitaxially grown CFAS and MgO on Ge(111). According to the X-ray diffraction (XRD) ϕ-scan of CFAS(220), we determined that the crystallographic orientation relationships were CFAS(111)// Ge(111) and CFAS(111)//MgO(111)Ge(111). The magnetic properties were measured by the vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and the saturation magnetization Ms value of CFAS with 2-nm thick MgO reached the value of L21 ordered one. A uniaxial magnetic anisotropy behavior was observed both in CFAS/Ge and CFAS/MgO/Ge structures after annealing. We confirmed the behavior did not only originate from the CFAS/Ge interface but also CFAS/MgO and the ordering structure.

Although, recently these materials have acquired renewed importance due to the new explored nanolayer properties of modern devices. In addition, as shown in this work they can be grown using uncomplicated synthesis techniques based on the deposition in vapour phase of the elemental precursors. This work presents the results obtained from the deposition of nanolayers of these materials using the precursor vapour on GaAs and GaSb (001) substrates. This growth technique, extensively known as atomic layer deposition (ALD), allows the layers growth with nanometric dimension. The main results presented in this work are the used growth parameters and the results of the structural characterization of the layers by the means of Raman spectroscopy measurements. Raman scattering shows the peak corresponding to longitudinal optical (LO)-ZnTe, which is weak and slightly redshift in comparison with that reported for the ZnTe bulk at 210 cm–1. For the case of the CdTe nanolayer, Raman spectra presented the LO-CdTe peak, which is indicative of the successful growth of the layer. Its weak and slightly redshift in comparison with that reported for the CdTe bulk can be related with the nanometric characteristic of this layer. The performed high-resolution X-ray diffraction (HR-XRD) measurement allows to study some important characteristics such as the crystallinity of the grown layer. In addition, the HR-XRD measurement suggests that the crystalline quality has dependence on the growth temperature.
