  • Research Methodology of Vernacular Architecture and Viewpoints under the
           Context of Cross-disciplinary in Thailand

    • Authors: วารุณี หวัง
      Pages: 1 - 18
Abstract: Research on vernacular architecture in Thailand has been going on for nearly fifty years, but the content of the study was not widely recognized. Some are considered to have a certain distance from daily life or does not respond to the diverse needs of the people, as well as the problem of local, and society as a whole. This article aims to analyze the relationship of vernacular architecture with other sciences and their methodologies of study that can conduct along with other research methods, including analysis of research approaches and applications to suit the situation of Thai economy based on the combination of methods and knowledge. The author used relevant literary studies as the main tool for analysis and suggestion to be able to apply to meet the needs and problems of each local, including the expand of research scope into more diversity. Creating a comprehensive knowledge base and integrating the vernacular study into other disciplines is a way to help develop and manage local resources effectively and sustainability.

  • Lanna Cultural Landscape Ecology and The Landscape Architecture
Integration to Reducing Hydrological Surface Runoff Impact of Land Cover
Change: A Case Study of Chiangmai – Lamphun Basin

    • Authors: ยุพเรศ สิทธิพงษ์, ยุทธนา ทองท้วม
      Pages: 19 - 35
Abstract: This article discusses the changes of land cover in Lanna cultural landscape through Chiangmai–Lamphun basin case study, to synthesize the local intellect in water management of Lanna cultural landscape, including the past-to-present impact from land cover changes, using landscape-based approach. The result illustrates the area’s spatial relationship and functions, along with the ecosystem service in Lanna cultural landscape. The result shows that the important landscape structures that serve as the landscape corridor of Lanna cultural landscape in Chiangmai–Lamphun basin are consisted of a creek, a Muang-Fai and a paddy field; all connected in a large system and affect each other from upstream to midstream and downstream. In the past 20 years, vegetated area of Chiangmai-Lamphun basin has been decreased by 15%, making the ratio of permeable surface to impermeable surface reduce from 6:1 to 3:1. This resulted in the runoff curve number of midstream and downstream to increase from 46 to 50 and 59 to 67 respectively, following by more volumes of runoff and peak flow. So that there should be concern and encouragement to conserve the landscape structures, such as the conservation of the Muang-Fai network, restoration of the old water way and city area expansion, in order to control and help reduce the hydrological impact.

  • Landscape Architecture Concept for Mitigate Flooding of Nong Jom
           Sub-district Municipality, Sansai, Chiangmai.

    • Authors: ยุทธภูมิ เผ่าจินดา
      Pages: 37 - 50
Abstract: Thailand has faced the problem of floods for many years and different damages were left in different areas based on their features. Nong Jom, sub-district municipality in the lower part of Sansai district in Chiangmai province, is a semi-urban and rural community that repeatedly floods causing damages in economics, society and environment. The natural factors that caused the problem were that the physical geographic feature was floodplain and heavy rain for several days caused accumulated rain in the area. Moreover, the soil was a set of deep clay causing bad to relatively low drainage and low rate of ground water seepage. For human factor, community expansion and constructions have blocked drainage system of the natural streams as a result the public drain pipes could not support drainage from the area during maximum quantity of accumulated water in the area. Therefore, concept of landscape architectural planning for the area development was considered based on the environment, aiming for the least environment impact; and ideas and modern water management techniques were taken into account. Instead of draining water out of the area only, water was managed to mitigate flood conditions such as water retention by using detention ponds, the use of green areas for water retention and underground infiltration by designing a plan aiming to maintain the natural river network and water cycle. This article presents the concept of water management in Nong Jom sub-district municipality relevant to the land use for not only relieving floods but also increasing green areas in the community, making the project valuable and increasing quality of life in the community.

  • Emerging of Low Cost Carrier and Changing of Aviation Network, Airport
Hierarchy and Relationship between the Economic of Airport Located
           Province.

    • Authors: Panpun Ronghanam, Monsicha Bejrananda
      Pages: 51 - 68
Abstract: This article aims to study the impact of aviation liberalization policies in Thailand that affect the changing of airlines network, airport hierarchy and the relationship between the economies of the province that is the airport location. Study of changes in the structure of domestic aviation’s urban system between 2540-2560 (B.E.) that during before and after the liberalization. The result is that the liberalization opens the domestic aviation market to low-cost carriers that offering cheap flights. The number of domestic passengers and flights has increased dramatically by low-cost carriers. These change the air network and the airport hierarchy, medium and small airports play an increasingly important role in the domestic air transport system. Moreover, the change of aviation urban system has shown the growth of economy resulting in trading and service sector.

  • Enhance Daylighting of Staff Room in Faculty of Architecture, Urban Design
           and Creative Arts Mahasarakham University

    • Authors: บริรักษ์ อินทรกุลไชย
      Pages: 69 - 89
Abstract: This research aims to find the best daylight enhancing lighting model, according to the Illuminating Engineering Association of Thailand’s guideline (not less than 300 lux), for staff room renovation in Faculty of Architecture, Urban Design and Creative Arts Mahasarakham University. The study was conducted through daylight simulation models performing under various room conditions according to the renovation plan then data was analyzed through the illuminance indicators from a DIALux program. The result reveals that the best lighting renovation model is a ceiling and partition adjustment model which has 123.70% of an annual average illuminance rate while before the renovation under the clear sky with direct sunlight condition and decreased to 121.91% under the overcast sky condition. On the illuminance uniformity indicator (not less than 0.6), before renovating the room has 0.401 under the clear sky with direct sunlight condition and decreased to 0.332 under the overcast sky condition. The model is proved to be effective in enhancing the daylighting of the room under a clear sky with direct sunlight condition since if cans increased the illuminance to 750 lux. On the other hand, under the overcast sky condition the model can only offer 300 lux of illuminance which means the lighting must be added under the case.
