Abstract: Organic farming is as old as human civilisation itself. The reason why organic farming has recently been brought under the spotlight again is that conventional farming has a destructive effect on agricultural resources. Not all conventional farming practices are necessarily harmful but mistakes have been made in the past. The Interior Plantscaper Assocation (IPSA) was founded in 1982. The organisation encourages interior plantscapers to develop ideas and network in an attempt to establish standards as well as produce a general code of ethics for its members. Abstract: Pumping water is a sensible and effective use of solar electric power. During the hot months, when water requirements are highest, a solar pump will provide a reliable water source for farms. Wind power, by comparison, can be inconsistent and may not be available during the hottest months in many inland areas. Wind may be too unreliable for water pumping when a relatively constant supply is required, as for stock watering. PubDate: 2008-11-06T07:21:44Z

Abstract: According to centre pivot irrigation experts, Andrag-Agrico, this form of irrigation is perhaps the most popular modern method of crop irrigation. This opinion is confirmed when one drives through any of South Africa's farming areas as centre pivot irrigation systems are almost a fixed feature on most properties.Misting, by definition, is the process of moisturising, for example plants or dry air, with a fine spray of water.Within any landscaping project, the irrigation system will often be the determining factor in the project's success or failure. A poorly planned and installed system will not operate to the best of its abilities, thereby putting the entire project at risk of failure. PubDate: 2008-11-06T07:21:44Z

Abstract: Water harvesting is the process of concentrating rainfall as runoff from a larger area for its productive use on a smaller area. A number of Water Research Commission research projects on the in-field rainwater harvesting (IRWH) technique have demonstrated that rural communities can benefit greatly from this production practice. Intensive field experiments on clay and duplex soils, conducted over a period of six seasons, indicated that IRWH increased maize and sunflower yields as much as 50%, compared to conventional production techniques (CON).
