About the

  • Penguatan Pendidikan Karakter dan Pembelajaran Abad 21

    • Authors: Endang Komara
ABSTRACT: “Strengthening the Character Education and Learning for 21st Century”. Character education is a necessity in facing the challenge of globalization at this time. Character education is a national movement in creating schools to develop learners to have ethics, responsibility, and caring, by applying and teaching good character through an emphasis on universal values. Character education is a deliberate, proactive, and done effort by schools and government to instill core values in ethics, such as caring, honesty, fairness, responsibility, and respect for others. Schools, therefore, should be able to develop character education through learning, habituation, extra-curricular activities, and should also work with families and communities in developing character education. This article, using qualitative methods and descriptive-analytical explanations, attempts to examine how the strengthening of character education in Indonesia and its relation to the context of learning in the 21st century. The results of the study show that the 21st century learning model includes: first, learning is directed to encourage learners to find out from various sources, not being told. Second, learning is directed to be able to formulate problems or ask questions, not just solve problems or answer. Third, learning is directed to train analytical thinking, as in the case of decision-making processes, rather than mechanistic and routine thinking. Fourth, learning emphasizes the importance of cooperation and collaboration in solving problems.KEY WORD: Strengthening Process; Character Building; 21st Century Learning; Quality of Human Resources; Indonesian Nation.

ABSTRACT: “Implementation of ASWAJA Values in Strengthening the Nation Character and Realizing the NKRI Entity”. Many noble values can be re-implemented in unifying communities of diverse cultural, religious and faith backgrounds, as well as languages, and others. The phenomenon of the rise of radicalism that entered and spread in the community resulted in the disintegration of the Indonesian nation. Meanwhile, ASWAJA (Ahlu al-Sunnah wal-Jama'ah) are people who always refer to the “Sunnah” (words and deeds) of Prophet Muhammad SAW (peace be upon him), the way of the Companions of the Prophet in the matter of religious belief, charitable deeds, and morality. The ASWAJA group is the survivors. The term "Sunnah" in ASWAJA refers to the guidance of Rasulullah SAW and his Companions, whether science, belief, words, or practice, namely the “Sunnah” that be guided. ASWAJA values such as "tawassuth" (moderate), "tawazun" (balanced), "tasamuh" (tolerant), and "i'tidal" (fair) become very important to be reintroduced as noble values, most of the Muslim community in Indonesia. The methods and approaches undertaken in this study are qualitative descriptive, with data obtained from literature reviews, discussions, and seminars on ASWAJA values. Furthermore, the discussion in this article focuses on ASWAJA values that must be re-applied in the community; and how the implementation of ASWAJA's values strategy and method to strengthen the nation's character in realizing the entity of NKRI (Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia).KEY WORD: Values; Prophet Words and Deeds; Character Building; Unity; Indonesian Muslim.About the Author: Dr. Helmawati adalah Dosen di Program Pascasarjana PAI/FAI UNINUS (Pendidikan Agama Islam/Fakultas Agama Islam, Universitas Islam Nusantara), Jalan Soekarno-Hatta No.530 Bandung, Jawa Barat, Indonesia.
