(Validation of an observational tool to
assess physical activity in urban green areas)

    • Authors: Irela Arbonés Arqué, Demetrio Lozano Jarque, Celia Marcén Muñío
      Pages: 251 - 263
Measurement of Physical Activity (PA) practiced by citizens has become an element of interest to guide sport policies in the field of health. According to the study «Analysis of the habits, demands and sports trends of the Zaragoza population 2015», public places are the most used for physical activity. The objective of this study was to design and validate an instrument to measure this activity at green-open-areas (urban parks) through observational methodology. A valid and reliable ad hoc instrument was used to data gathering, following SOPARC observation protocol, with a total of 1908 participants in the target areas at Parque del Agua in Zaragoza city. Results showed that in the analyzed periods, men (55.6% in June and 65% in November) were the greater of the park. Most observed physical activity was walking, followed by running. Both men and women preferentially used the park for PA during the late-night period and mid-day in spring (55.7% and 26.6% in males and 51.7% and 28.4% in females). They accounted for more people at noon (33.8%) and in the morning (31.2%) in autumn. Data also indicate that climatological conditions and family affairs affect both the type of practice in general in the population and in practice in large urban green areas.

(Analysis of the statistical variables related to the service in high
performance male tennis in junior and absolute category)

    • Authors: Ángel Iván Fernández-García, Juan Carlos Blanca-Torres, Raquel Hernández-García, Gema Torres-Luque
      Pages: 289 - 295
The aim of the study was to show the differences in the game statistics related to the service in professional and junior category in three surfaces and to determine statistical differences during the game regarding both categories. A total of 269 individual Grand Slam tennis matches (Australian Open, Wimbledon and Roland Garros) were selected on three different surfaces (hard court, grass and clay). The data was collected from the official websites of the tournaments. A total of 10 variables were analyzed in professional category and 7 in junior. Absolute players obtained higher values (p <0.05) of aces, aces per set, percentage of 1st Services and points won with 1st and 2nd Service and committed fewer double faults per set than juniors in all surfaces. It is concluded that the increase in performance in the variables related to the service plays a decisive role in order to achieve a professional status.

(Examining the
motivational effects of an orienteering season on secondary school
           students)

    • Authors: Antonio Méndez-Giménez, Federico Puente-Maxera, Diego Martínez de Ojeda, Juan Pedro Liarte-Belmonte
      Pages: 297 - 309
The main purpose was to examine the effect of an orienteering Sport Education season on secondary school students´ motivation. A pre-experimental design was carried out with pretest-posttest measures, and a quantitative and qualitative methodology was used to know in deep the students and teacher perception. Participants were 80 students (38 men and 42 women) of the 3rd year of Secondary Education and their teacher. The age range was 14-17 years, with a mean age of 14.62 years (SD = .80). The orienteering season lasted 12 sessions of 55 minutes. At a quantitative level, the measures of goal orientations (TEOSQ), motivational climate (PeerMCYSQ) and motivational regulations (PLOC-2) were used. At a qualitative level, three interviews with the teacher were analyzed before, after the fifth session as well as at the end of the unit. There were no significant differences in any of the motivational regulations. There was a significant decrease in the task achievement goal orientation in the total sample and males. Two resulting categories emerged: a) orienteering as a central content and its influence on student motivation, and b) orienteering and its approach to the model. The novelty, the dynamism, the lower physical demand, joined to several elements of the model (p.ej., rotating roles, involvement in the configuration of the groups and competitive phase) were a dampening effect of the decline in motivation.

deportivos. (Strategic management model for high performance sports
           centers)

    • Authors: José Ramón Sanabria Navarro, Yahilina Silveira Pérez, Valentín Molina Moreno, Digna Dionisia Pérez Bravo
      Pages: 311 - 324
The general objective of this research is to conceive a model of strategic direction for Latin American high-performance sports centers for the improvement of their results. The sample is 62 managers, 187 trainers, 2930 athletes and 62 expert researchers from centers in Cuba, Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia and Argentina, for 3241. The measurement instrument includes 12 key variables in the process of management strategies which are consolidated with the factorial analysis and the ANOVA of a factor through the SPSS 24.0. The reliability of the scale obtained an alpha higher than 0.7 in each sample. In this sense, a model is obtained that taxes the deficiencies detected in the diagnosis, based on the needs of the members of these organizations, considering criteria and theories of the strategic direction in the improvement of the organizational results. The validation of the model for high performance sports centers of the countries analyzed aims to develop joint strategies to generate synergies in their operational mode, which lead to enhance the sports organization.
