When body size is more, we generally understand that the strength is more with the player. In strength sports like weight lifting, powerlifting the strength of the individual is measured. In weight lifting, the total of snatch, clean and jerk are the factors to decide the winner; however, in powerlifting the total of squat, bench press and deadlift are considered. In this study, 54 senior class powerlifter and 54 junior class powerlifters are treated as subjects. All the subjects from heavy weight categories such as 105kg, 120kg and above 120kg categories are highlighted. • Plurilingualism in Morocco: Issues and Challenges to Language Policy

    • Authors: Asma Nifaoui
Abstract: The purpose of this article is to analyze the multilingual situation in Morocco in the face of the challenges encountered by language policies undertaken by the state since independence in 1956. The Moroccan society is characterized by ethnic, cultural, and linguistic diversity. This multidimensional richness has created competition amongst the linguistic varieties in the country, which has prompted the state to undertake several reforms and language policies including Arabization and the development of the National Charter in 1999, with a view to managing linguistic diversity in the country. Before tackling all these issues, a presentation of the linguistic landscape in Morocco is provided. Then, drawing upon the work of researchers specializing in the field, this review addresses the obstacles that have hindered the success and effectiveness of the enacted policies thus far. A sociological approach is also privileged in this study by referencing the work of the sociologist Bourdieu and emphasizing the importance of identity, cultural, and social considerations in developing an effective educational language policy that is capable nurturing citizens with adequate proficiency in national, local, and foreign languages.

  • Exceeding Continental and Analytic Philosophy: The Post-Continental
           Thought of W.J.T. Mitchell

    • Authors: Anastasia Jessica Adinda Susanti
Abstract: The division between Continental and Analytic Philosophy in contemporary philosophy is more difficult to maintain than in modern philosophy. Some philosophers use both Continental and Analytic Philosophy together. They defy the presupposition that Continental thought is subjectivist, collectivist, and historicist, while Analytic thought is objectivist, individualist, and scientific. John Mullarkey calls this circumstance “The Post-Continental Philosophy”. This research aims to examine 'what is the post-continental thought of W.J.T. Mitchell'' and 'how does Mitchell exceed the boundaries of Continental and Analytic Philosophy''. The method of this research is hermeneutic which involves some elements such as interpretative analyses, historical continuity, heuristics, and descriptive. In conclusion, Mitchell’s post-continental thought bridges the Continental and Analytic philosophy, especially through the concepts of Picture Theory and Image Science. In Picture Theory, he uses the Continental philosophy approach that emphasizes the interpretation of the image. Meanwhile, in Image Science, he employs the Analytic philosophy approach that gives attention to the abstract, rational, and mathematical analysis.

  • Exploring the Use of Covid-19 as a New Pre-Text in Trump’s Political
           Discourse

    • Authors: Grasiella K. Harb; Youssef M. Serhan
Abstract: With the rise in the spate of deaths in America and the failure of Trump in containing coronavirus pandemic, the president is losing his hopes of winning the coming presidential election. Amidst Trump’s confusion, Covid-19 becomes a pre-text in his political rhetoric in an attempt to blame China for the pandemic, raise tension between U.S. and Beijing, and regain credibility from the public. Accordingly, the research paper aims to explore how Trump’s outrageous language unveils his ideological hegemony and contributes to the spread of xenophobia towards China. A multidisciplinary qualitative analysis was adopted to analyze one of Trump’s blunt political discourse. The analysis was based on Fairclough and Van Dijk’s Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) model, along with Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) Model. The findings of the study are significant in raising the public’s awareness of the manipulative social function of language in enhancing racism and inequality of power between nations.

  • Njangi: Pillar of Development in the Anglophone Regions of Cameroon

    • Authors: Mendong Margaret Besin-Mengla
Abstract: This study aimed at examining the role played by njangi groups in the socio-economic development of the people in the two Anglophone regions of Cameroon. Qualitative and quantitative data was obtained from secondary and primary sources. Primary data was mainly obtained from 281 income earners sampled from six towns and six villages. The analysed data showed that majority of income earners in the two Anglophone regions of Cameroon did not have saving accounts in modern financial institutions as people mostly depended on financial njangi groups for saving. Many farmers belonged to farming njangi groups as the njangi groups ensured high quantity and high quality work in the farms. Low disposable incomes made it difficult for many people to acquire some essential household commodity and this led to the creation of commodity njangi groups that either collected specific commodity from members and gave to one member per session or collected fixed amounts of money from members and bought commodity that was given to one member per session. The advantages of njangi groups notwithstanding; failure in making financial, labour and commodity contributions by members; mismanagement of financial resources of njangi groups; and promotion of robbery were some of the weaknesses of njangi groups in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon. Despite these weaknesses, njangi groups were indispensable in the socio-economic development of the people in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon.

           Future in India

    • Authors: Monika Singla; Bhavya Bansal
Abstract: COVID-19 pandemic has globally affected the health, economy, psychology and socio-economic status of the society. This pandemic demands a great deal of preparedness by public at many fronts. To control this pandemic India implemented a complete lockdown in the whole country. Post unlock there are rapidly rising number of cases, therefore we planned to conduct an online survey on general public regarding their thoughts on COVID-19 in the coming times. We planned to ask them few questions regarding their take on pandemic in coming months, their economic status, stigma regarding health of their family and their suggestions regarding control of pandemic, if lockdown should be implemented or not despite fall in business and economy. It was circulated through messages to various groups and people and they were requested to fill it. On analyzing the survey responses, majority of the people mentioned that pandemic is going to increase and most of the people were concerned about their family’s health. More than 50% admitted that they will change their lifestyle and reduce their expenses. Though loss of economy is there, many people favored reimplementation of lockdown to stop spread of the virus. We concluded with this survey that besides effect on physical and mental health of people, there is significant effect on social health and economic aspects of people. With time people are getting clear about their futuristic approaches to handle this pandemic.

  • Chinese Immigration to California: Welcomed Workers, Shunned Immigrants

    • Authors: Anthony W. Baker
Abstract: This paper explores the complex relationship linking the collapse of the mining and railroad industries, anti-Chinese sentiment, and the passage Chinese Exclusion Act.  Although difficult to tease out, the paper also explores how these immigration issues, prompted primarily by domestic concerns, were intertwined with the diplomatic relationship between the United States and China, as it evolved over the period of 1858 through 1880. this paper looks at historical newspapers written in the early Californian state in the 1850s to the 1860s to understand how changing attitudes towards Chinese immigrants affected local anti-Chinese laws and how these local attitudes shaped national laws. This paper will show that while Chinese workers were welcomed early on for providing cheap labor, overtime they would be increasingly prejudiced against and blamed for growing labor disputes between white workers and corporations. Ultimately Chinese immigration would be scapegoated as the reason for declining wages by white workers in order to pass anti-Chinese laws. The United States moved towards exclusion as a domestic policy, an apparent contradiction of its diplomatic policy of forging closer ties in an attempt to take advantage of Chinese trade.

Researchers focus on perceptions of work-family conflict tracing the typology of antecedents and sources, dynamics of feelings aroused, covert adjustments, overt/behavioural manifestations, and the consequences to individuals and organizations. It is contended that covert adjustments (through ego defense mechanisms) in a conflict situation play a pivotal role before giving behavioural expression to feelings aroused. Further it is contributed to work-family conflict using 2(positive/negative)x2 (directed toward self/others)x3(location; workplace/family/both) model together with the adverse effects of psychological deviance. The researchers add value to the existing literature on conflict management by extending the role of psychological dynamics of affective arousal, covert adjustments and overt manifestations of conflict, and progression of the conflict experience into psychological distress possibly leading to adverse effects of psychological deviance requiring psychiatric or psychological help.
