  • Hubungan Kesukaran Meregulasi Emosi dan Tingkah Laku Delinkuen dalam
           Kalangan Remaja: Perapatan kepada Komuniti sebagai Perantara (The
           Relationship of Dysregulation of Emotion and Delinquent Behaviour among
           Teenagers: Attachment to Community as Moderator)

      Abstract: Dewasa ini, banyak kes jenayah menyaksikan remaja sebagai pelaku. Kajian-kajian lepas menunjukkan penglibatan remaja dalam delinkuensi disebabkan oleh pelbagai faktor bermula dari domain individu (psikologikal), sosial, sehinggalah pengaruh di peringkat persekitaran dan komuniti. Walaupun pelbagai kajian telah dilakukan dalam memahami faktor psikologikal, tidak banyak kajian yang memfokuskan peranan aspek perapatan kepada jiran tetangga dan komuniti dalam konteks delinkuen remaja dan kaitannya dengan faktor psikologikal. Justeru, objektif utama kajian ini adalah mengenal pasti pengaruh perapatan kepada komuniti sebagai perantara antara kesukaran meregulasi emosi dan tingkah laku delinkuen dalam kalangan remaja. Kajian ini dijalankan di sebuah sekolah menengah yang terletak di Perak. Kajian ini menggunakan soal selidik yang merangkumi tiga alat ukuran iaitu Skala Perapatan kepada Komuniti, Skala Kesukaran Meregulasi Emosi dan Skala Tingkah Laku Delinkuen Remaja. Kajian ini melibatkan 144 orang remaja warganegara Malaysia yang berumur 13 hingga 16 tahun. Dapatan kajian mendapati perapatan kepada komuniti tidak mempunyai hubungan dengan kesukaran meregulasi emosi (r = 0.069, p = 0.409) dan tingkah laku delinkuen remaja (r = -0.068, p = 0.417). Namun, kesukaran meregulasi emosi mempunyai hubungan positif yang signifikan dengan tingkah laku delinkuen (r = 0.200, p = 0.019). Walau bagaimanapun, perapatan kepada komuniti tidak dapat menjadi perantara antara kesukaran meregulasi emosi dan tingkah laku delinkuen (F (7, 136) = 1.48, p= .179). Kajian ini diharap dapat memberi input dalam memahami masalah delinkuen yang berlaku di Malaysia terutamanya dalam konteks perapatan komuniti dan regulasi emosi.

      Abstract
      Nowadays, many teenagers are involved in criminal cases as offenders. Voluminous studies have indicated teenagers participate in crimes due to many factors at different domains such as individual (psychological) and social as well as influences from environment and community levels. Although a number of studies have devoted to understanding the role of psychological factors; however not many studies have focussed on the roles of attachment to neighbourhood and community in the context of delinquency and their associations with psychological factors. Therefore, the primary objective of this study is to identify the effects of attachment to the community as a moderating factor between dysregulation of emotion and delinquent behaviour. This study is conducted in a secondary school in Perak. This study uses a questionnaire comprising three instruments: Sense of Community Index-2, Self-reporting Delinquent Behaviour and Difficulties in Emotional Regulation. This study recruited 144 Malaysian teenagers between the age of 13 and 16 years old as research respondents. The findings of this study show that attachment to community does not have any correlation with dysregulation of emotion (r = 0.069, p = 0.409) and delinquent behaviour(r = -0.068, p = 0.417). However, dysregulation of emotion shows a significant positive relationship with delinquent behaviour(r = 0.200, p = 0.019). Nevertheless, attachment to community fails to be a moderator between dysregulation of emotion and delinquent behaviour (F (7, 136) = 1.48, p= .179). It is highly anticipated that this study would provide an in-depth understanding regarding delinquency especially from the contexts of attachment to community and dysregulation of emotion.

  • Experience and Coping Strategy Based on the Theory of Planned Behavior
           among Young Blood Donors (Pengalaman dan Strategi Daya Tindak berdasarkan
           Teori Tingkah Laku Terancang dalam Kalangan Penderma Darah Muda)

      Abstract: The recruitment of young people as first-time blood donors and their retention as Repeat Blood Donors (RBDs) could ensure a sustained supply of blood. Therefore, it is crucial to have a greater understanding on motivation factors, intention and continuous act of blood donation among young people. The aim of this study is to explore the experience and coping strategy among young blood donors based on the Theory of Planned Behavior. This study applied qualitative approach using in-depth interviews with eight RBDs (four males and four females), aged between 20 and 26 years old, identified amongst university students. The informants were recruited using snowballing technique with purposive criteria as RBD; non-first time donors and have donated more than one time within 12 months after the last donation. Each RBD had donated blood between three to six occasions as overall donations. Findings showed that perceived social support from peers as well as encountering friendly and competent phlebotomists were among the positive experiences associated with blood donation that encouraged donors to continue donating. Negative experiences act as barriers to blood donation and these include encountering certain adverse effects (i.e bruises, dizziness) of donating blood and feeling unappreciated by the phlebotomists. Positive experiences and coping strategies to overcome barriers implemented by the informants have led to a stronger intention to repeat blood donation. This study found that by having positive experiences during donating blood and coping with unpleasant experiences could help to retain the intention to donate blood in the future. Future research suggested is to explore the different types of bonding in social networks among blood donors that lead to the intention to donate blood.Keywords: Students; young people; blood donation; experience; intention
      Abstract 
      Usaha untuk merekrut golongan muda sebagai penderma darah pertama kali dan pengekalan mereka sebagai Penderma Darah Berkala (PDB) adalah untuk menjamin bekalan darah yang berterusan. Oleh itu, adalah penting untuk memahami faktor motivasi, niat dan tindakan menderma darah secara berterusan di kalangan golongan muda. Kajian ini bertujuan meneroka pengalaman dan strategi daya tindak dalam kalangan penderma darah muda berdasarkan Teori Tingkahlaku Terancang. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif melalui temu bual mendalam dengan lapan orang PDB yang dikenal pasti dari kalangan pelajar universiti (empat lelaki dan empat perempuan), berusia dalam lingkungan 20 hingga 26 tahun. Informan diperolehi melalui teknik snowballing dengan kriteria sebagai PDB; bukan penderma darah pertama kali dan telah menderma darah lebih dari sekali dalam tempoh 12 bulan sejak pendermaan yang terakhir. Secara keseluruhan, setiap informan telah menderma darah di antara tiga hingga enam kali. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa penerimaan sokongan sosial daripada rakan sebaya dan bertemu dengan phlebotomists yang peramah serta cekap merupakan antara pengalaman positif yang mendorong kepada pendermaan berterusan. Pengalaman negatif berperanan sebagai halangan untuk pendermaan darah dan ini termasuklah kesan negatif selepas pendermaan (contoh: lebam, pening kepala) serta rasa tidak dihargai oleh phlebotomists. Pengalaman positif dan strategi daya tindak untuk mengatasi halangan semasa menderma yang dilakukan oleh informan telah membawa kepada pengukuhan niat menderma darah pada masa akan datang. Cadangan untuk kajian akan datang ialah meneroka jenis jaringan sosial yang berbeza dalam kalangan penderma darah yang membawa kepada niat untuk menderma darah.Kata kunci: Pelajar; golongan muda; pendermaan darah; pengalaman; niat

  • Strengthening Emotional Intelligence in Developing the Madrasah
           Teachers’ Professionalism (Penguatan Kecerdasan Emosional dalam
           Mengembangkan Profesionalisme Guru Madrasah)

      Abstract: Tujuan kajian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pengaruh kecerdasan emosi dalam pembentukan profesionalisme guru madrasah. Sejumlah 320 guru telah diambil dalam kajian ini yang terdiri daripada guru-guru Madrasah Aliyah negeri dan swasta di 12 kabupaten/kota di seluruh Provinsi Riau, Indonesia. Dengan menggunakan reka bentuk penyelidikan kuantitatif dengan pendekatan pemeriksaan ex post facto. Keputusan menunjukkan, tahap kecerdasan emosi guru adalah tinggi manakala tahap profesionalisme guru rendah. Tidak ada kesan jantina pada kecerdasan emosi guru madrasah, dan juga tahap usia guru. Manakala lama sertifikasi dan tempoh pengajaran mempunyai pengaruh terhadap kecerdasan emosi guru-guru madrasah. Guru yang bersertifikasi melebihi 5 tahun mempunyai kecerdasan emosi yang tinggi, demikian juga dengan guru yang mengajar antara 21-30 tahun. Tidak ada pengaruh gender dalam mengembangkan profesionalisme guru madrasah, manakala usia guru, lamanya sertifikasi, dan lamanya pengajaran mempunyai pengaruh dalam mengembangkan profesionalisme guru madrasah. Guru berumur antara 41-50 tahun mempunyai profesionalisme yang tinggi, demikian juga guru yang bersertifikasi melebihi 5 tahun mempunyai profesionalisme yang tinggi. Guru yang mempunyai pengalaman mengajar antara 20-30 tahun mempunyai profesionalisme yang lebih tinggi daripada pengalaman mengajar yang lain. Kecerdasan emosi guru mempunyai hubungan yang signifikan namun lemah terhadap profesionalisme guru. Kajian ini mencadangkan pembentukan modul pencegahan serta intervensi profesionalisme guru melalui elemen kecerdasan emosi.

A total of 320 teachers was in volvedas the sample of this study consisted of public and private Madrasah Aliyah teachers in 12 districts/cities throughout Riau Province, Indonesia. This study utilized ex post facto research approach in quantitative research design. Data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that the level of emotional intelligence was high while professionalism was low. There was no effect of gender on the emotional intelligence of the teachers, as well as the teacher’s age, while certification and teaching duration have an impact on the emotional intelligence. Teacher who is over 5 years of certification has a high emotional intelligence, and who teach between 21-30 years have a high level of emotional intelligence. There is no influence of gender in developing the professionalism of madrasah teachers, while teacher age, certification, and teaching duration have an influence. The ages of teacher between 41-50 have a high professionalism and teacher who are over 5 years of certification have high professionalism, and teachers with 20-30 years of teaching experience have high professionalism. Emotional intelligence had a small but significant contribution to professionalism. This study supported the formation of prevention modules and the intervention of teacher professionalism through emotional intelligence elements.

  • Susunan Tempat Tinggal dan Kepuasan Hidup Warga Emas: Satu Kajian Kes di
           Seri Kembangan, Selangor, Malaysia (Living Arrangements and Life

      Abstract: Kajian ini bertujuan untuk meninjau hubungan di antara susunan tempat tinggal dengan kepuasan hidup warga emas. Data dianalisis menggunakan penyelidikan kuantitatif bertajuk Susunan Tempat Tinggal: Implikasi Kepada Kesejahteraan Warga Emas, di bawah pembiayaan Universiti Putra Malaysia. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bahawa 124 orang warga emas telah berjaya ditemubual. Jenis susunan tempat tinggal warga emas paling ramai di Seri Kembangan adalah tinggal bersama tiga generasi (51.6%), diikuti oleh tinggal bersama dua generasi (32.3%) dan tinggal dalam satu generasi (6.1%). Peratus warga emas wanita yang tinggal bersama tiga generasi adalah lebih tinggi berbanding lelaki. Sebaliknya peratus warga emas lelaki yang tinggal bersama dua generasi lebih tinggi daripada wanita. Kebanyakan warga emas di sini memperoleh skor kepuasan hidup yang tinggi. Ujian ANOVA menunjukkan perbezaan yang signifikan di antara susunan tempat tinggal dengan kepuasan hidup warga emas (F=4.055, p=0.02*). Warga emas yang tinggal bersama anak mempunyai tahap kepuasan hidup yang lebih tinggi berbanding jenis susunan tempat tinggal yang lain. Walau bagaimanapun, Ujian Regresi menunjukkan bahawa susunan tempat tinggal tidak mempunyai hubungan yang signifikan dengan kepuasan hidup warga emas tetapi disumbangkan oleh faktor kesihatan, tahap pendidikan, bilangan anak dan sokongan sosial (R2=0.223, p=0.000**). Justeru untuk meningkatkan kepuasan hidup warga emas akan datang, maka usaha ke arah meningatkan perkhidmatan kesihatan yang lebih baik, pendidikan yang lebih tinggi, galakkan pasangan untuk memiliki anak yang ramai serta sokongan sosial kepada warga emas perlu diberi perhatian sewajarnya.Kata kunci: susunan tempat tinggal; kepuasan hidup; warga emas; hubungan; kesejahteraan
      Abstract
      This study aim to explore the relationship between living arrangements and life satisfaction of older persons. Data was analyzed using quantitative research titled Living Arrangements: Implications for Elderly Well-being, under the funding of Universiti Putra Malaysia. The results showed that 124 older persons were successfully interviewed. The most popular types of living arrangements in Seri Kembangan was older persons living with three generations (51.6%), followed by living with two generations (32.3%) and lived in one generation (6.1%). The percentage of women older persons living with three generations is higher compared to men. On the other hand, the percentage of older men who live with two generations is higher than women. Most of older persons here have a high satisfaction score. ANOVA test show a significant difference between living arrangements and life satisfaction (F=4.055, p=0.02*). Older persons who live with children have higher level of life satisfaction compared to other types of living arrangements. However, the Regression Test show that living arrangements have no significant relationship with life satisfaction of older persons but are contributed by health factors, education level, number of children and social support (R2=0.223, p=0.000**). Hence, to increase the future older person’s life satisfaction, therefore efforts to increase better health services, higher education, promote couple to have more children and social support to older persons should be taken into account accordingly.Keywords: living arrangements; life sastisfaction; older person; relationship; well-being

  • Hubungan Faktor Psikososial Pekerjaan terhadap Penglibatan Kerja dalam
           Kalangan Penjawat Awam (Relationship between Job Psychosocial Factors and
           Work Engagement among Public Service Officers)

      Abstract: Pekerja yang mempunyai penglibatan kerja melihat diri mereka sebagai mampu berdepan dengan tuntutan pekerjaan yang pelbagai. Mereka mempunyai emosi positif yang dapat membantu mereka mencari idea baru, menangani beban kerja yang tinggi dan tekanan yang seterusnya boleh menghasilkan prestasi kerja yang tinggi. Sehubungan itu, kajian ini bertujuan meneliti hubungan antara faktor pekerjaan iaitu kawalan pekerjaan, tuntutan pekerjaan, sokongan sosial dan ketidakjaminan pekerjaan dengan penglibatan kerja. Kajian ini menggunakan reka bentuk kajian rentas dengan melibatkan sampel kajian seramai 663 orang penjawat awam dari enam kementerian di Putrajaya. Alat kajian yang digunakan ialah Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) untuk mengukur kawalan pekerjaan, tuntutan pekerjaan dan sokongan sosial, Job Insecurity Scale (JIS) untuk mengukur ketidakjaminan pekerjaan dan The Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) untuk mengukur penglibatan kerja. Keputusan kajian mendapati terdapat hubungan signifikan antara kawalan pekerjaan, sokongan sosial dan ketidakjaminan pekerjaan dengan penglibatan kerja tetapi tiada hubungan antara tuntutan pekerjaan dan penglibatan kerja diperolehi. Kawalan pekerjaan, sokongan sosial dan ketidakjaminan pekerjaan juga merupakan peramal yang signifikan yang menyumbang sebanyak 19% varians terhadap penglibatan kerja. Dapatan ini memberi implikasi bahawa penjawat awam yang mempunyai kawalan pekerjaan, sokongan sosial dan jaminan pekerjaan lebih bermotivasi untuk mencapai matlamat organisasi kerana mereka akan sentiasa bersemangat, berdedikasi dan khusyuk dalam meraih matlamat tersebut. Ciri-ciri ini menjadikan penjawat awam dapat memberikan perkhidmatan terbaik kepada masyarakat dengan cekap dan berkesan. Kajian ini diharap dapat memberi pencerahan tentang hubungan antara faktor pekerjaan dan penglibatan dalam konteks perkhidmatan awam di Malaysia.

      Abstract 
      Employees with work engagement are able to handle various job demands. They have positive emotions that can help them seek new ideas, handle high workload and stress and consequently have high performance. This study aimed to examine the relationship between occupational factors which are job control, job demands, social support and job insecurity on work engagement. This study employed a cross sectional design with respondents comprising of 663 public service officers from six ministries in Putrajaya. The data were gathered from a set of questionnaire adapted and translated from earlier studies namely the Job Content Questionnaire (JCQ) to measure job control, job demand and social support, Job Insecurity Scale (JIS) to measure job insecurity and Utrecht Work Engagement (UWES) to measure work engagement. Results showed that there were significant correlations between job control, social support and job insecurity with work engagement but there was no significant correlation between job demand and work engagement. Job control, social support and job insecurity were significant predictors which contributed 19% variance towards work engagement. The findings give implication that public service officers with job control, social support and job security are more motivated to achieve organisational goals due to their vigor, dedication and absorption to achieve those goals. These characteristics enable them to provide the best service to the society effectively and efficiently. It is hoped that this study can give understanding on the relationship between occupational factors and work engagement in the context of public service in Malaysia.

      Abstract: Selaras dengan matlamat Pendidikan Untuk Semua (EFA), sewajarnya pendidikan adalah hak mutlak pada semua kanak-kanak di dunia. Demikan juga UNICEF merupakan badan Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu yang memberi bantuan kemanusiaan dan perkembangan kepada kanak-kanak di seluruh dunia, termasuklah menggalakkan pendidikan untuk kanak-kanak perempuan dan memastikan mereka menghabiskan pendidikan peringkat sekolah rendah sekurang-kurangnya. Perjuangan pembangunan pendidikan untuk kanak-kanak  ini seringkali melibatkan peranan media dan menjadi isu penting dalam kalangan pentadbir dan ahli politik. Namun, secara tidak sedar sumber-sumber daripada genre kesusasteraan khususnya karya autobiografi mampu memupuk minat malah dapat melestarikan pendidikan untuk kanak-kanak. Golongan ini perlu diterapkan nilai-nilai murni dan komunikasi efektif antara mereka yang boleh didapati menerusi kajian tokoh yang dipersembahkan dalam bentuk karya autobiografi. Justeru itu, makalah ini cuba menghuraikan bagaimana genre autobiografi sebagai cabang kepada kepelbagaian karya sastera dapat menghasilkan satu wahana yang dapat memberi citra baru dalam revolusi pendidikan kanak-kanak. Perbincangan ini akan memperlihatkan bagaimana tokoh pendidikan kanak-kanak dari bandar Mingora, iaitu Malala Yousafzai berjuang untuk kanak-kanak perempuan Pakistan sehingga perjuangannya mendapat pengiktirafan Anugerah Nobel-Keamanan pada tahun 2014. Kisah perjuangannya diabadikan melalui karya autobiografi I Am Malala (Saya Malala) .       In line with the Education For All (EFA), education is an absolute right to all the children in this world. UNICEF as one of the United Nations body provides humanitarian and development programme to children around the world, including promoting education for girls and ensuring at least to complete their primary education. The struggle for children educational development involves the role of the media and is an important issue among administrators and politicians.However, unknowingly sources from the genre of literature, especially autobiographical works can stimulate interest and even preserve education for children. In Literature, the study of figures in the autobiographical works can be an effective medium to cultivate good values to the children. Hence, this paper attempts to explain how the genre of autobiography as one the varieties from the literary works can be used as a new platform in the revolution of children education. This discussion explores how a Children’s Figure Malala Yousafzai from Mingora, a small town in Pakistan; in her autobiography I Am Malala fight for children girls education in Pakistan. In 2014, Malala’s autobiography has been recognized with the Nobel-Peace Award. Malala’s autobiography has inspired the world and triggered world leaders to recognize children education.   • Peralihan Bahasa dalam Kalangan Dua Generasi Cham Malaysia (Language Shift
           among Two-Generation of Malaysian Cham)

      Abstract: Peralihan bahasa merupakan situasi yang memperlihatkan masyarakat secara keseluruhannya memilih untuk menggunakan bahasa asing dengan lebih kerap dan berterusan sehingga menjejaskan bahasa ibunda. Isu peralihan bahasa sering berlaku dalam kalangan minoriti terutamanya mereka yang berhijrah ke dalam masyarakat multilingual. Oleh itu, kajian ini bertujuan mengkaji peralihan bahasa dalam domain kekeluargaan masyarakat Cham yang telah berhijrah ke Malaysia berdasarkan analisis domain penggunaan bahasa dan teori mobiliti sosial. Kajian ini dilakukan di dua kampung Cham di Ulu Tiram Johor. Sebanyak enam belas informan yang berusia dalam lingkungan 12-64 tahun terlibat dalam kajian ini yang terdiri daripada lapan orang generasi pertama dan lapan orang generasi kedua. Data kajian diperoleh melalui kerja lapangan dengan melakukan temu bual bersemuka separa berstruktur. Semua temu bual dirakam dengan izin informan. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa domain kekeluargaan tidak mampu mengekalkan bahasa Cham apabila sebahagian besar informan menggunakan bahasa Melayu sebagai bahasa yang dominan sesama ahli keluarga. Empat informan generasi kedua pula telah beralih sepenuhnya daripada bahasa Cham kepada bahasa Melayu. Faktor mobiliti sosial, iaitu keetnikan, perubahan etnik dan nasionalisme wilayah telah menyumbang kepada peralihan bahasa Cham. Kajian ini menyimpulkan bahawa peralihan bahasa Cham telah bermula seawal generasi kedua tetapi belum lagi mencapai skala yang menyeluruh.       Abstract Language shift is a situation in which society use foreign languages more frequently and consistently, thus affecting their mother tongue. The issue of language shift often occurs among minorities, especially those who migrate into multilingual communities. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the language shift in the family domain within the Cham community, who had migrated to Malaysia, based on the analysis of language use domain and social mobility theory. The study was conducted in two Cham settlements located in Ulu Tiram, Johor. A total of sixteen informants, aged between 12-64 years, consisting of eight first-generation and eight second-generation people, participated in this study. The data were obtained through fieldwork using face to face semi-structured interviews. All interviews were recorded with the participants’ permission. The results showed that the family domain was not able to maintain the Cham language as most of the participants used the Malay language as the dominant language among their family members. Four second-generation participants had completely shifted from the Cham language to the Malay language. The social mobility factors of ethnicity, ethnic movement and geographical nationalism have contributed to the shift of the Cham language. This study concludes that the shift in the Cham language occurs as early as the second-generation but has not reached a whole scale yet. Therefore, efforts to revitalize the Cham language should be done to maintain the language in Malaysia. Keywords: Language shift; Cham language; domain; social mobility; generation

  • Improving Student Engagement and Behavioural Outcomes via Persistence
           among Distance Learners (Meningkatkan penglibatan pelajar dan hasil
           tingkah laku melalui kegigihan dalam kalangan pelajar jarak jauh)

      Abstract: Student engagement assists distance learners gain specific skills and to realise the worth of their rewarding educational experience. However, if persistence is not adequately present, the distance learners might quit an online course. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between online student engagement towards student satisfaction and learning outcomes and to examine the moderating effect of persistence between online student engagement towards student satisfaction and learning outcomes. The research model was tested upon engagement theory as an underlying theory to support the research framework. Purposive sampling technique was used to collect data via online survey questionnaires for three weeks. The research hypotheses are examined through correlation and path analysis of 321 distance learners from one of the public universities in Malaysia using Partial Least Square (PLS) 3.0. Results of analysis demonstrated that persistence was found to moderate the relationship between online student engagement towards student satisfaction and learning outcomes. This finding implies that distance learners who commit themselves to a goal will highly likely persist, and the more courses a student finishes, the closer he or she will be to graduating. Based on the results, this research suggests the management of Malaysian distance education institutions to create rapport between online programme staff and distance learners at an early stage. Additionally, online programmes must promote and establish support networks for distance learners to resolve personal or professional difficulties in improving retention and preventing them from dropping out of online programmes.Keywords: Online student engagement; persistence; student satisfaction; behavioural outcomes; learning outcomes                                                                                                     Abstract  Penglibatan pelajar membantu pelajar jarak jauh memperolehi kemahiran khusus dan menyedari nilai pengalaman pendidikan mereka yang bermanfaat. Walau bagaimanapun, jika kegigihan tidak hadir dengan cukup, pelajar jarak jauh mungkin berhenti dari kursus dalam talian. Oleh itu, kajian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki hubungan antara penglibatan pelajar dalam talian terhadap kepuasan pelajar dan hasil pembelajaran, dan untuk mengkaji kesan penyederhanaan antara penglibatan pelajar dalam talian terhadap kepuasan pelajar dan hasil pembelajaran. Model kajian diuji berdasarkan teori penglibatan sebagai teori dasar untuk menyokong rangka kerja penyelidikan. Teknik pensampelan purposif digunakan untuk mengumpul data melalui soal selidik secara atas talian selama tiga minggu. Hipotesis kajian dikaji melalui korelasi dan analisis jalur 321 pelajar jarak jauh dari salah sebuah universiti awam di Malaysia menggunakan Partial Least Square (PLS) 3.0. Hasil analisis menunjukkan kegigihan didapati dapat memoderasi hubungan antara penglibatan pelajar dalam talian terhadap kepuasan pelajar dan hasil pembelajaran. Penemuan ini menunjukkan bahawa pelajar jarak jauh yang mengikat diri pada suatu tujuan kemungkinan besar akan berterusan, dan semakin banyak kursus yang diselesaikan oleh pelajar, semakin hampir dia akan lulus. Berdasarkan hasilnya, penyelidikan ini menyarankan pengurusan institusi pendidikan jarak jauh Malaysia untuk menjalinkan hubungan antara staf program dalam talian dengan pelajar jarak jauh diperingkat awal. Selain itu, program dalam talian mesti mempromosi dan mewujudkan rangkaian sokongan untuk pelajar jarak jauh untuk menyelesaikan masalah peribadi atau profesional dalam meningkatkan pengekalan serta untuk mengelakkan daripada berhenti dari program dalam talian.Kata kunci: Penglibatan pelajar dalam talian; kegigihan; kepuasan pelajar; hasil tingkah laku; hasil pembelajaran.

      Abstract: The traditional Straits Chinese courtyard shop house is the basic building typology of George Town Heritage City for hundreds of years. The shop house is harmonised in its architectural design identity formation. Many studies have shown that the identity formation of traditional Straits Chinese courtyard shop houses underwent a series of transformation throughout the passage of time. Therefore the interiors formation of shop houses buildings have become a threat by losing the authentic identity in George Town Heritage City. Thus, this paper aims to identify the identity formation of the traditional courtyard of shop houses interiors. A qualitative research approach was employed to obtain data from primary and secondary sources. The reason is to understand the design identity of the traditional courtyard architectural components. Thematic analysis was adopted, and five themes were used to present and discussed the results. This study found that the main multi-cultural (Malay, Chinese, and European) has influenced the identity formation of the traditional courtyard shop house interiors. The outcome is a combination of built cultural heritage. Findings also show that focusing on promoting the traditional courtyard identity formation ensures a strong appreciation of its existence. As part of the practical implications, this paper contributes to reawaken policymakers and other stakeholders. Banyak kajian menunjukkan pembentukan identiti halaman rumah kedai tradisional Selat Cina telah melalui beberapa siri transformasi seiring perubahan masa.Oleh itu pembentukan dalaman menjadi ancaman dengan kehilangan keaslian pada identiti bangunan rumah kedai di Bandar Warisan George Town. Justeru, makalah ini ditulis bertujuan untuk mengenalpasti pembentukan identiti pada senibina dalaman rumah kedai tradisional. Pendekatan kajian kualitatif telah digunakan bagi mendapatkan data dari sumber utama dan sekunder.  Hal ini adalah untuk memahami rekabentuk identiti pada komponen senibina yang melibatkan halaman tradisional. Analisis tematik telah digunapakai dan lima tema diadaptasi untuk membentangkan dan membincangkan dapatan kajian ini. Hasil kajian mendapati bahawa kepelbagaian budaya (Melayu, Cina dan Eropah) telah mempengaruhi pembentukan identiti pada senibina dalaman halaman rumah kedai tradisional. Ini membawa kepada penggabungan warisan budaya. Dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan tumpuan terhadap promosi pembentukan identiti halaman tradisional telah mengukuhkan nilai penghargaan yang kuat terhadap kewujudannya. Sebagai sebahagian daripada implikasi praktikal, makalah ini memberi sumbangan berbentuk kesedaran kepada pembuat dasar dan pihak-pihak berkepentingan.       Abstract: This paper investigates the use and application of material culture study methods to document and organise the cultural collections of the Saribas Malay community in Betong Division, Sarawak. The main objective of the study is to identify the Saribas Malays’ awareness on the importance to document material culture. A documentation template based on material culture theory was designed to preserve and sustain cultural objects, starting with a practical application can be easily used and effectively implemented by the local community. This qualitative research used in-depth interviews to gather data on respondents’ awareness on the importance of documenting material culture and their perception on using the template. The respondents were selected among Saribas Malays who make, use, keep and collect cultural objects.  For the purpose of this study, Fleming’s (1974) and Prown’s (1982) models were adapted to construct a template to document information of the artefacts and as analytical tools. The findings from the interview sessions with the Saribas community showed that they were positive towards the effort to preserve material culture through documentation. The simple template proposed was sufficient to record basic information of the artefacts.       Abstract 
      Makalah ini membincangkan penggunaan kaedah kajian budaya benda untuk mendokumentasikan dan menguruskan koleksi budaya masyarakat Saribas Melayu di Bahagian Betong, Sarawak. Objektif utama kajian ini secara amnya adalah untuk mengenalpasti kesedaran masyarakat Melayu Saribas terhadap kepentingan mendokumentasikan budaya benda. Justeru, satu templat dokumentasi yang praktikal dan mudah untuk digunakan oleh masyarakat setempat direkabentuk untuk tujuan pendokumentasian kendiri. Temubual adalah kaedah yang digunakan dalam kajian kualitatif ini untuk mengumpul data mengenai kesedaran responden tentang kepentingan pendokumentasian budaya benda dan persepsi mereka terhadap penggunaan templat dokumentasi. Responden dipilih dalam kalangan komuniti Melayu Saribas yang membuat, mengguna, menyimpan dan mengumpul objek budaya. Untuk tujuan penyelidikan ini, modelFleming (1974) dan Prown (1982) diadaptasi dan disesuaikan untuk membina templat untuk mendokumenkan maklumat artefak dan sebagai instrumen analisis. Dapatan kajian daripada temubual dengan kumpulan sasar menunjukkan petunjuk positif terhadap usaha untuk memelihara budaya benda melalui dokumentasi dan templat ringkas yang dicadangkan dikatakan mencukupi untuk merekodkan maklumat asas artifak-artifak tersebut. Walaupun usaha ini dijangka akan mengambil masa untuk dilaksanakan sepenuhnya, tetapi dalam jangka panjang, amalan ini akan mendidik masyarakat untuk terus memelihara warisan dengan menyediakan dokumentasi yang sahih yang membolehkan ianya digunakan sebagai rujukan untuk tujuan akademik, katalog muzium dan koleksi antik.Kata kunci: Budaya Benda; Melayu Saribas; Borneo; Pendokumentasian Digital; Alat Analisis

      Abstract: Profesionalisme keguruan adalah suatu pencapaian yang sangat penting yang perlu dicapai oleh setiap guru agama. Hal ini mempunyai kaitan yang rapat dengan pembentukan kualiti dan kecemerlangan guru dan pelajar.Kertas kerja ini bertujuan untuk meninjau konsep profesionalisme keguruan dalam perspektif Islam dan tahap pencapaiannya dalam kalangan guru agama alumni Academy of Islamic and Arabic Studies, Princess of Naradhiwas University AIAS-PNU.  Bagi mendapatkan maklumat tersebut, dua pendekatan digunakan dalam kajian ini iaitu pendekatan kualitatif dan pendekatan kuantitatif. Kajian kuantitatif dijalankan secara temubual terhadap responden yang terlibat secara langsung dengan guru agama iaitu guru besar dan ahli akademik di sekolah menengah agama swasta di wilayah Selatan Thailand seramai 16 orang responden. Dalam mengukur pencapaian profesionalisme keguruan ini, lima item digunakan iaitu moral dan amalan positif, kemahiran intelektual, sosial dan komunikasi, ilmu pengetahuan dan amanah dan tanggungjawab. Hasil kajian memnunjukkan bahawa item moral dan amalan positif paling tinggi berada pada tahap baik dengan peratusan 40 peratus diikuti tahap sederhana 35 peratus dan tahap rendah 25 peratus. Item kemahiran intelektual dapati penilaian paling tinggi ialah tahap rendah dengan peratusan 42 peratus diikuti tahap sederhana 32 peratus dan tahap baik 26 peratus. Item sosial dan komunikasi dapati penilaian paling tinggi ialah tahap baik dengan peratusan 60 peratus diikuti tahap sederhana 26 peratus dan tahap rendah 14 peratus. Item ilmu pengetahuan dapati penilaian paling tinggi ialah tahap sederhana dengan peratusan 55 peratus diikuti tahap baik 23 peratus dan tahap rendah 22 peratus. Akhirnya item amanah dan tanggungjawab dapati penilaian paling tinggi ialah tahap sederhana dengan peratusan 43 peratus diikuti tahap baik 35 peratus dan tahap rendah 22 peratus.  Hasil kajian secara amnya menggambarkan kedudukan guru agama kelulusan AIAS-PNU berada pada tahap yang sangat membimbangkan. Demikian berpunca daripada beberapa faktor sama ada aspek dalaman mahupun luaran.Dalam usaha meningkatkan pencapaian kualiti guru agama adalah tanggungjawab setiap pihak harus bekerjasama dalam memastikan pencapaian kualiti guru agama berada pada kedudukan yang memberangsangkan.Kata kunci: professionalism keguruan; kualiti; cemerlang; alumni; intelektual
      Abstract
      Teacher professionalism is very important achievement that isnecessary to achieve by every religious teachers. It has a close connection to quality formation and excellence of teachers and students.The purpose of this article is to review the concept of teacher professionalism in Islamic perspective and its level of achievementamong alumni religious teachers of the Academy of Islamic and Arabic Studies, Princess of Naradhiwas University. Hence, both the qualitative and quantitative approaches are utilized. The quantitative study was obtained through interviewswith respondents who were directly involved with religious teachers, namely headmasters and school administrator committee member as many as 16 respondents.There are five items to measure the achievement of this professionalism including moral and positive practice, intellectual skills, social and communication, knowledge, trust and responsibility. The results show that the highest ratingofthe moral and positive practices item was found good levels of 40 percent and followed by a moderate level of 35 persent and a low level of 25 percent. The highest rating of the intellectual skills item was found low level of 42 percent and followed by a moderate level of 32 percent and a good level of 26 percent. The highest rating of the social and communication item was found good level of 60 percent and followed by moderate level of 26 percent and a low level of 14 percent. The highest rating of the knowledge item was found moderate level of 55 percent and followed by good level of 23 percent and a low level of 22 percent. Finally, the highest rating of the trust and responsibility item was found moderate level of 43 percent and followed by good level of 35 percent and a low level of 22 percent. The results of this study generally show the position religious teachers alumniof the AIAS-PNU are very alarming level. This is due to several factors, both internal and external to the pursuit of improving the quality of religious teachers it is the responsibility of each party to work together to ensure that the quality of religious teachers is in a satisfying position.Keywords: teacher professionalism; quality; excellence; alumni; intellectual

  • Ilmu Kajian Agama-agama dalam Tradisi Islam (The Study of Religions in the
           Islamic Tradition)

      Abstract: Ilmu Kajian Agama-agama atau Ilmu Perbandingan Agama menjadi tumpuan dan mendapat perhatian sama ada dalam kalangan individu yang berada di lapangan akademik, dakwah atau awam sehingga pelbagai kursus intensif yang berkaitan ditawarkan. Artikel ini membincangkan kedudukan Ilmu Kajian Agama-agama dalam tradisi Islam. Isu-isu utama yang menjadi perbincangan artikel ini ialah: [i] Kajian agama-agama menurut al-Quran dan Sunah; [ii] Ilmu Kajian Agama-agama subwacana Ilmu Kalam; dan [iii] Ilmu prasyarat (prerequisite) dalam menekuni Ilmu Kajian Agama-agama. Penulisan artikel ini adalah berdasarkan kajian analisis kandungan. Sumber primer yang menjadi asas dalam penulisan ini ialah karya-karya Ilmu Kalam dan karya-karya para ilmuwan Islam di dalam kajian agama-agama. Kesimpulannya, Ilmu Kajian Agama-agama adalah salah satu daripada dua wacana Ilmu Kalam yang mewacanakan kepercayaan antara penganut agama (intrareligion atau intra-Islam) dengan penamaan seperti al-Firaq al-Islāmiyyah (Aliran-aliran Pemikiran Islam) dan wacana berkaitan kepercayaan antara agama-agama (interreligions) dengan penamaan seperti Muqāranah al-Adyān (Perbandingan Agama-agama). Selain itu, Ilmu Kajian Agama-agama atau secara khusus dialog antara agama bukan bidang amatur yang boleh dilaksanakan oleh sesiapa sahaja. Sebaliknya memerlukan kepada individu yang mempunyai tahap pengetahuan akidah yang baik dengan penguasaan tema, isu dan dalil secara tafṣil (huraian atau satu persatu) kerana lapangan ini berisiko menjerumuskan seseorang kepada kecelaruan, keraguan, kesesatan dan kekufuran.Kata kunci: Akidah, teologi, Kalam, agama, dialog.
      Abstract
      The study of religions or the comparative religion has become the focus of attention for any individual be it in the field of academic, preaching or public until various relevant intensive courses are offered. This article discusses the position of the study of religions in the Islamic tradition. The issues that became the focus of discussion of this article are: [i] the study of religions according to the Qur’an and al-Sunnah; [ii] the study of religions as sub-discussion of ‘Ilm al-Kalām (i.e. Islamic scholastic theology); and [iii] Pre-requisite knowledge in the study of religions. The writing of this article is based on a content analysis study. The primary sources underlying this work are the works of the ‘Ilm al-Kalām and the works of Muslim scholars in the study of religions. In conclusion, the study of religions is one of the two discourses of the ‘Ilm al-Kalām which illustrates the beliefs of intra religion or intra-Islam such as al-Firaq al-Islāmiyyah (i.e. Schools of Islamic thought) and discourse on religious beliefs religions (inter religions), like Muqāranah al-Adyān (i.e. the Comparative Religion). In addition, the study of religions, particularly the dialogue between religions is not for amateurs. On the contrary, it is necessary for individuals to have a good level of knowledge in ‘aqīdah with the mastery of themes, issues and arguments in tafṣil (i.e. studied individually or else the individual) will risk the danger of being derailed to be in the state of disorder, become doubtful, error in judgement and disbelief.Keywords: ‘Aqīdah, theology, Kalam, religion, dialogue.

  • Seruan melestarikan hubungan sosio-agama melalui Pendekatan Fiqh
           al-Tacayush (Sustainability of socio-religious relations using the Fiqh

      Abstract: Fitrah kepelbagaian manusia akan melahirkan sesuatu yang positif jika ditangani secara matang mengikut garis panduan agama. Pendekataan konflik pula sudah hilang justifikasinya, apatah lagi dalam suasana dunia kini mendambakan kedamaian. Begitu juga pengadaptasian fatwa klasik dari sudut pengkategorian dhimmi-harbi pada zaman Khilafah Islamiyyah dilihat kurang relevan dengan pola hubungan masa kini yang diistilahkan sebagai al-muwatinun. Bersesuaian dengan realiti ini, Fiqh al-Tacayush diketengahkan sebagai wadah kerukunan dalam meraikan kepelbagaian masyarakat berteraskan dasar kesalingan insan yang mendambakan keharmonian. Namun pendekatan kontemporari ini sering menimbulkan pelbagai persoalan kerana ia dilihat seolah-olah cubaan meminggirkan keimanan dan pembubaran ajaran Islam. Mentakdiskan fatwa silam dengan mematikan realiti atau menyembah realiti tanpa panduan nas dan thurath, menatijahkan kepincangan. Justeru, kajian bersifat makro ini dijalankan dengan tujuan untuk memberi gambaran menyeluruh secara umum tentang latar belakang dan konsep asas Fiqh al-Tacayush yang meliputi garis panduan, cabaran dan seruan melestarikannya. Kajian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif berdasarkan reka bentuk kajian analisis kandungan dengan merujuk kepada kajian kepustakaan melalui analisis dokumen dan dianalisis menggunakan kaedah deskriptif. Hasil kajian merumuskan bahawa asas Fiqh al-Tacayush sudah pun terpahat kukuh dalam al-Quran dan Sunnah. Pendekatannya secara realistik dalam bentuk kontemporari berdasarkan dawabit syarak perlu diketengahkan dalam rangka melestarikan hubungan mesra sosio-agama pada masa kini. Implikasinya, para sarjana Islam perlu proaktif dalam memperkukuhkan konsep fiqh kontemporari ini secara komprehensif agar ia dapat dijadikan panduan hidup masyarakat dalam menangani konflik kemajmukan.

      The innumerable forms of human instincts could produce something positive if they are wisely handled using religious guidelines. The conflict approach has lost its justification, especially when the current global situation craves for peace. Adopting classical fatwas, beginning with the categorization of dhimmi-harbi during the Khilafah Islamiyyah era, lacks relevance to contemporary societal relations known as al-muwatinun (coalition or alliance of citizens). Therefore, when considering this current reality, Fiqh al-Tacayush could be a platform for seeking harmony in a multi-faceted or multi-ethnic society that craves for peace and goodwill. This approach frequently raises several questions because it presumptuously marginalises faith (iman), leading to the dissolution of Islamic teachings. To consecrate past fatwas by either nullifying or worshiping reality without any guidance from divine decrees and thurath (hereditary rulings), results in shortcomings. Hence, this study intended to provide a comprehensive picture about the background and the fundamentals of the Fiqh al-Tacayush concept, which includes the guidelines, challenges and its sustainability. The qualitative approach, based on a content analysis design, had carried out a library research and the documents were analysed using the descriptive analysis method. It was found that the fundamentals of Fiqh al-Tacayush are firmly established in the al-Quran and Sunnah. Realistically, the approach, which is contemporary in form and based on dawabit syarak, should be inserted in the framework to sustain current socio-religious relations. The requires Islamic scholars to proactively consolidate the contemporary fiqh concept so that it could become a living guide for society in order to overcome the pluralistic society issue.Keywords: Fiqh al-Tacayush; dhimmi-harbi; al-muwatinun; concord; pluralism

      Abstract: Kertas kerja ini menjelaskan keperluan terhadap memahami agama lain  sebagai asas keharmonian agama di Malaysia. Tidak dinafikan bahawa usaha untuk memupuk keharmonian antara penganut agama di Malaysia kerap dilaksanakan sama ada secara teori mahupun praktikal merangkumi program yang melibatkan pelbagai agama akan tetapi isu dan konflik tuntutan dalam isu antara agama di Malaysia masih lagi berlaku. Sejajar dengan situasi ini, beberapa sesi temu bual telah dijalankan bersama informan yang terdiri dari wakil pemimpin- pemimpin bagi agama Islam dan Kristian di Malaysia. Data temu bual ini telah dianalisis secara tematik dengan penggunaan perisian Atlas Ti.  Hasil kajian ini mendapati bahawa hubungan antara penganut Muslim dan Bukan Muslim khasnya Muslim –Kristian di Malaysia masih dipenuhi dengan syak wasangka dan salah faham. Fakor utama berpunca dari salah faham terhadap dasar Islamisasi yang dilaksanakan dalam kerajaan. Salah faham ini seterusnya membentuk kumpulan yang terlalu ekstrem sama ada kepada pemisahan agama dan negara atau membawa kepada taasub kaum dan agama sehingga tidak sedar akan hak-hak agama lain yang turut diiktiraf oleh agama yang dianuti.  Justeru, bagi menimbulkan semula kepercayaan antara dua penganut agama ini, pemimpin agama bersetujua bahawa memahami agama lain adalah penting terutamanya dalam hal-hal yang melibatkan urusan harian SERTA mempunyai syarat agar kelangsungan hubungan sosial dapat berjalan dengan harmoni tanpa menggangu batas-batas sensitiviti agama.Kata Kunci: Memahami Agama Lain, Hubungan Muslim –Kristian, Toleransi Agama, Sensitiviti Agama, Hubungan Antara Agama Malaysia.
      Abstract
      This paper explains the necessity of understanding others as a basic religious harmonization in Malaysi. There are many efforts have been done previously including discussion, social dialogue and seminar that involve all of the religious believe, however these efforts were unable to reduce the conflicts and issues related to Muslim and Christian relationship in Malaysia. Therefore, to clarify on this matter, we conducted an interview session with several representatives of religious’ leader from Muslim and Christian respectively in each chosen states of Malaysia. By using Atlas Ti software, the content of the dialogues was analyzed thematicly. The result revealed that there is a lot of skeptical and misunderstanding among religious followers of Muslim and non Muslim especially Muslim-Christian in Malaysia. The biggest problem highlighted in this study is lack of understanding on concept of Islamic country introduced by the government of Malaysia. This leads to the formation of extremist group that is too obsessive with their races and religious believe, thus giving a negative influence to the society and divide them according to their own religious believe without realizing the rights of other religion that have been authorized by their religion. Hence, to reinstall the religious harmony among Muslim and Christian, we need to educate the followers for each religion to have a better insight on what other religion practice and guide them on respecting each other rights to practice according to the constitution of Malaysia.   • Exploring the Roles of Heritage Museums in Promoting Intangible and
           Tangible Heritage in Kelantan (Meneroka Peranan Muzium Warisan dalam
           Mempromosikan Warisan Tidak Ketara dan Ketara di Kelantan)

      Abstract: Malaysia is committed to preserving heritage buildings into heritage museums for documentation and education. Heritage museums could promote tangible and intangible heritage through its interior appearances and exhibitions. The Jahar Palace of Kelantan is a heritage palace that remains intact, and its space functions are still recognised even after being converted into a museum. This palace promotes intangible heritage and plays the role of the Kelantan Royal Traditions and Customs Museum. Four essential components that need to be focused by heritage museums are preserving the building’s history, preserving the authenticity of the historic building, preserving the initial space function, and preserving the exhibition contents of space. This paper aims to raise awareness of the value of tangible and intangible heritage in heritage museums. This paper is qualitative research adapting the case study method. Observation on-site, measured drawings, documents study and site tour, were some of the approaches that have been applied to obtain the data. The photographic mapping technique using the historic photograph, sketches, drawings, books, and journals were applied to investigate the origin of the building space. The data was analysed and presented in table form to differentiate the pattern of findings. The results indicated that the roles of heritage museums are required not only to display historical object but also to communicate the significance of the historic building. In other sense, the display of the building and its contents would indirectly act as an exhibit resource in promoting intangible and tangible heritage. Keywords: role; heritage museum; tangible; intangible; heritage.  Abstract Malaysia berusaha untuk memelihara bangunan warisan menjadi muzium warisan untuk tujuan dokumentasi dan pendidikan. Muzium warisan boleh mempromosikan warisan ketara dan tidak ketara melalui penampilan dalaman dan pameran. Istana Jahar Kelantan adalah istana warisan yang masih utuh dan fungsi ruang masih dikenali walaupun telah diubah menjadi muzium. Istana ini mempromosikan warisan tidak ketara dan memainkan peranannya sebagai Muzium Adat Istiadat Diraja Kelantan. Empat perkara penting yang perlu difokuskan oleh muzium warisan adalah memelihara sejarah bangunan, memelihara keaslian bangunan bersejarah, memelihara fungsi asal ruang, dan memelihara kandungan ruang pameran. Makalah ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kesedaran mengenai nilai warisan ketara dan tidak ketara dalam muzium warisan. Kertas kerja ini adalah penyelidikan kualitatif di mana kaedah kajian kes digunakan. Pemerhatian di tapak, lukisan terukur, kajian dokumen dan lawatan tapak adalah beberapa pendekatan yang telah digunakan untuk mendapatkan data. Teknik pemetaan fotografi dengan menggunakan gambar bersejarah, lakaran, lukisan, buku dan jurnal digunakan untuk menyiasat ruang asal bangunan. Data dianalisis dan disampaikan dalam jadual analisis untuk membezakan corak penemuan. Sebagai penemuan, peranan muzium warisan diperlukan bukan sahaja untuk memaparkan objek sejarah tetapi juga untuk menyampaikan kepentingan bangunan bersejarah mereka. Dalam erti kata lain, apabila bangunan dan kandungannya menjadi paparan, secara tidak langsung ia menjadi sumber pameran dalam mempromosikan warisan tidak ketara dan ketara. Kata kunci: peranan; muzium warisan; ketara; tidak ketara; warisan
