  • Gender studies of men and masculinities: What are they and what do they
           study?

Abstract: We present a comprehensive understanding of the gender studies of men and masculinities, through two articulated reflections: a) the link with feminism and the LGBTTI studies, and b) its object of study. Our proposal derives from a constructivist epistemology and the poststructuralist theory. We consider that these studies are a subfield of the gender studies and that their objet of study is neither men nor masculinities, in themselves, but a dimension of sociocultural and power relations (androcentric and/or heterosexist), which tend to inscribe/resist/transform gender in male and men's bodies, subjectivities, and in the whole social fabric.

  • The social construction of gender in danger and agricultural laborers of
           the town Miguel Alemán, Mexico

Abstract: The aim of this research is to analyze the discourses and practices of agricultural workers living in the town Miguel Alemán, Sonora, regarding the social construction of gender and danger. Through a qualitative study, it is analyzed and discussed their interviews regarding work activities, their definitions of danger and care practices. There are differences in the division of labor between men and women, and thus the practices and discourse about the danger. Gender norms and working conditions (deficiency in the organization, exposure to vermin and extreme weather) are combined for the social construction of danger. It is concluded that there are glimpses of gender patterns that would influence the perception of danger either to prevent or to make bold action.

  • Feminist economics and sexual division of labor

Abstract: This article aims to expose the critique by feminist economics about the conventional view of economic activity, for which there is no other job to consider more than the paid for, which is bought and sold for a salary. Feminist economics emphasizes that this limited approach about labor excludes women and a gender dimension. This feminine invisibility is not only quantitative, that is, it is not only that female participation rates in the formal labor market are low. The reason is rather about approach: the analysis concerning labor is constructed from a neutral perspective, so that work and women appear as two mutually exclusive concepts. Therefore, feminist economics retrieves invisible feminine elements, particularly domestic work and care work.

  • Fight against discrimination and identity: a psychoanalytic reflection

Abstract: This text reflects upon the limitations of a fight against discrimination which focuses on identity. Based on the model of formation of the I in the mirror stage proposed by Lacan, as well as his definition of the imaginary, there are argued the difficulties that emerge when addressing discrimination from identity and, specifically, from the enhancement of it. The fundamental argument consist in pointing out that placing the cause of discrimination in identity and tackling discrimination from that perspective is to maintain a relationship with the other in an imaginary order; the latter leads to prejudice and stigma.

  • Notions of youth: Theoretical approaches from the social sciences

Abstract: This paper develops the theoretical elements to analyze the process of construction of concepts on youth culture and how they support development with different social science research with youth. In a first part is identified the concept of youth in Western society. It continues with different interpretations on youth as a problem of adaptation from a medical and psychological vision, which is refuted by the cultural vision that begins in the thirties of the twentieth century and that which continues to the present day. Finally, some major Latin American researchers and their lines of major work are presented.

  • Discourses of otherness in the regional drama of post-dictatorship
           Argentina

The negative consequences of the last dictatorship in Argentina can be clearly seen in several cultural aspects, for example, in the conception of "suspicious otherness" which the military regime introduced in social domains in order to justify and endorse its repressive and genocidal practices. Thus, with the return of democracy, art in general and drama in particular, assumed, with aesthetic responsibility, the task of resignifying those discourses on ominous otherness. Therefore, in this article we will address the poetic responses offered by regional drama as resistance strategies, in order to contribute to the new community and intersubjective processes on the recent past. To investigate this problem, we will appeal to hermeneutic tools from comparative drama and sociology of culture, and apply them to the analysis of the plays of Alejandro Finzi and Carlos María Alsina, written in Patagonia and the Argentine Northwest during the 1983-2003 period.

  • Challenges of the creative potential of intermediality

Abstract: The article proposes that intermediality is not a new phenomenon. In earlier times, artists took an interest in combining different media of expression such as music, painting, words, etc. Nevertheless, in the 21st century, this takes on added significance as a result of the dizzying growth of technology and communication media, which have dynamized physical and virtual mobility, multiplied the potential for combining media and expressions, and increased data storage and availability. Although intermediality does present some drawbacks, it has clearly served as an impetus for the emergence of modes of creativity based on collaboration networks for staging performances, producing other kinds of artwork, and relating concepts. This last point represents a potential for the future, and at the same time imposes epistemological challenges on the humanities, inasmuch as it will not be enough to propose isolated or prototypical interpretations of a given expressive medium, the times call for intermedial analyses.
