    • Authors: Anna M. Devís Arbona, Silvia-Maria Chireac
      Pages: 8 - 27
Abstract: The hypothesis of our research focuses on the idea that folk literature favours the knowledge of roots, history and symbols that form a nation’s culture or identity, and, therefore, represents a tool of approach between peoples towards establishing the common models of different cultures (Devís, 2013; Devís y Chireac, 2015). For that reason, we consider to study the image of the woman in some folktales from different places of Ecuador and Peru. Our aim is to analyse if the social role of the woman was influenced by the background of the Pre-Colombian cultures or by the European colonization.

    • Authors: Miquel A. Oltra-Albiach, Rosa Pardo-Coy
      Pages: 28 - 40
Abstract: This research starts out from an educational perspective: as literature a teachers in a Teacher Training College, we have noted the lack of diversity in family patterns in the text books. We have also observed how various stereotypes related to gender roles within families, jobs or the way in which gender itself expresses, are still present in the texts that schools offer to beginning readers. In this paper, we approach the Valencian literature for beginning readers in order to analyze the family structures and the treatment of roles of its members in various literary genres from books targeted at pre-school education (five years).

    • Authors: Francesca De Cesare
      Pages: 41 - 54
Abstract: This paper investigates the discursive construction of surrogacy in the Spanish press. The headlines have been selected from the most prominent online newspapers in Spain (El País, El Mundo and ABC) in the period from Jun 1st  2015 to May 31st 2016. The theoretical and methodological framework is based on critical discourse analysis and appraisal theory. A qualitative and quantitative analysis of linguistic resources and discursive strategies was brought about to reveal relationships between discursive options and ideological positions. The objective here is to describe and explain their grammatical, discursive and social aspects as an evidence of the power exercised by the media in its discourses.

  • Voci dall’ombra: Francisca Herrera Garrido e María Mariño

    • Authors: Rachele Fassanelli
      Pages: 69 - 85
Abstract: This paper aims to dwell on two female voices of modern Galician literature, Francisca Herrera Garrido (1869-1950) and María Mariño Carou (1907-1967), particularly on the poor visibility of her works in the contemporary cultural scene. The poets’ personal and institutional events serve as a good example of the difficulties that in the last century women have not only with emerging, but also with introducing themselves in the male-dominated fields of publishing and academy.

  • Silencio y marginalidad.

      Pages: 86 - 97
Abstract: The aim of this article is to elaborate an analysis of the factors that, according to our hypothesis, have been decisive in the fact that, after democracy was established, women continued to be underrated as lyric authors, subordinate to an editorial system where male poets prevailed. Despite the social development and the rights acquired within the democratic system, female poets were still not as visible as male ones. The consequence is a lack of female names among the great works of the 80's and the 90's.

    • Authors: Pilar Arnau i Segarra
      Pages: 98 - 113
Abstract: At the beginning of the 21st century a new literature written by authors born abroad appeared in Catalonia. The firsts of these writers are authors born in Morocco, whose mother tongue is Tamazight but who, however, write in Catalan. This Catalan exophonic literature has its own characteristics: dual images of migrant woman.

    • Authors: Anna Perera Roura
      Pages: 114 - 125
Abstract: The notion of mimesis proposed by the Catalan writer Josep Palau i Fabre must be closely related to the disintegration of the self and also to a process of alienation of identity, fundamental concepts of his literary work. After a brief description of this mechanism of existential interrogation, the article proposes a characterization of the female mimesis based on the analysis of the female characters that appear in the narrative work of Palau, formed by five volumes of short stories.

    • Authors: Maria Alessandra Giovannini
      Pages: 151 - 160
Abstract: The study presented here intends to focus on the role played by the intellectual work of Carmen Martín Gaite in the path of women's self-consciousness, just returned to democracy in Spain. Martín Gaite, through her activity as novelist, essayist and translator of a diverse mosaic of literary works, builds a synergistic discourse of intertextuality that, along with the constructive power of memory in the creation of reality, gives us an alternative way, 'other', right of women's writing. The writing becomes a place, an 'elsewhere', physical
and symbolic at the same time, of female identity building, away from the traditional role imposed by men in the society and in the logos.

    • Authors: Valeria Palmieri
      Pages: 161 - 186
Abstract: When the narrative converges with a world of monstrosity, the speaking subject and the object described would establish a dichotomous relation, consisting on words and silences that determine who has the right to speak clearly and who is going to be the subject of discussion. Historically, writers have silenced women throughout literary narrative, regarding them as an instrument to project the conjectures of the patriarchal society. The misogynistic mythology described them as a constant threat to social order, giving a bequest of controversial characters still included in the fiction of modern authors. Analysing the protagonists of select novels by Pilar Pedraza, a rewriting of their portrayals could be heightened, as the perspective of the descriptions of these terrible figures changes when a woman is the one to create fantastical narration.

      Pages: 187 - 199
Abstract: The essay analyses the polyphonic nature of the short stories by Ana María Matute and, through the description of the most iconic female figures, shows how the author goes beyond the male-female opposition and creates a "neutral" writing.

    • Authors: Giuseppina Notaro
      Pages: 200 - 210
Abstract: In many contemporary novels, there are references to the art, in every conjugation. The writer, when using words, tries to create a mirror effect between his or her writing and the instruments used as means of art. In many female writers’ works, art attains a main role, and very often is closely linked to sensibility, the territory where emotions take place. In some works, Almudena Grandes presents characters who have an intimate relationship with art, which reveals itself as a vivifying power, as we can see in Te llamaré Viernes (1991) and Castillos de cartón (2004), and in the short story “Mozart, y Brahms, y Corelli” (2005). In particular, female characters embody sensibility generating from art.

           Generazione X spagnola

    • Authors: Matteo Lobina
      Pages: 211 - 221
Abstract: Spanish Generation X writers manipulate the speed of the present and the dialogue between literature and reality. It is a movement filled with violence, brands and hyperreality, and it is often misread as a men’s movement. This paper explores the ironic introduction of the reality show language inside the novel by Gabriela Bustelo and Lucía Etxebarria’s metafictional games, challenge gender roles and the construction of female identity, an identity filtered by technology. This virtual identity reflects a desire to create a literary space where reality is set through fiction.

    • Authors: Luigi Contadini
      Pages: 222 - 238
Abstract: In this article I examine La soledad era esto by Juan José Millás. The novel, that could be called a "feminine novel", can be read as a process of reconciliation of the protagonist, Elena Rincón, with her recently deceased mother. One of the main themes is the process of metamorphosis of the protagonist who, through the breaking of the social and cultural patterns in which she felt trapped despite herself, becomes aware of the ambivalence of her body in its relationship with the world. Following an initial state of bewilderment and anguish, Elena gradually regains a faint hope, opening herself to the possibility of rebirth out of what had been left her from a life without meaning.

    • Authors: Domenico Branca, Paola Mancosu
      Pages: 239 - 263
Abstract: This article analyses from an anthropological and literary intedisciplinary perspective De cuando en cuando Saturnina. Una historia oral del futuro, science fiction novel written by Alison Spedding in 2004. In particular, it is demonstrated the presence of an axis that crosses the whole work: the intersection between class, race, and gender. From this articulation, anthropological contents within the novel are analyzed, to reflect – through a critical point of view – on current problems.

  • Intermedialidad entre texto e historieta. Análisis de un cuento de
           Antonio Di Benedetto

    • Authors: Alice Favaro
      Pages: 264 - 273
Abstract: “Aballay”, by Antonio Di Benedetto, is a text with multiple meanings. Its spatial and temporal multiculturalism sets a dialogue and an interaction with other works and it permits the creation of hypertexts. Through the analysis of the tale we intend to think about the connections between man and environment. The intention is to study the tale not only as an example of transculturation but also as a new approach to gaucho literature. The suggested analysis makes possible a comparison between comic and movie adaptation, and a reflection upon differences and similarities between those two media.

  • Correspondencia y Symphilosophie. Consideraciones sobre el intercambio
epistolar de Mario Levrero y Francisco Gandolfo

    • Authors: Luciana Martinez
      Pages: 274 - 283
Abstract: The Symphilosophie is a German romantic form of thought that refers to the collective production of ideas composing the unity of a work. The correspondence appears as an ideal means of exploring of the Symphilosophie, especially in the case of the correspondence between Francisco Gandolfo and Mario Levrero, in which the epistolary form functions as a place of debate and joint definition of ideas regarding central problems of both poetics: the search for (and therapy of) the self through writing and, collaterally, the social function of the writer. Both problems are constructed through a romantic sensitivity that is present in self-figurations of the authors, which are defined in the missives.

  • Belano alter ego de Bolaño. Sobre la creación de una identidad
           literaria en Los detectives salvajes

    • Authors: Guadalupe Silva
      Pages: 297 - 311
Abstract: The article analyzes the construction of a literary identity in Roberto Bolaño's novel The Savage Detectives (1998). Starting with the hypothesis that his narrative elaborates a revalorization of the poetic, this work investigates the procedures and models of the mentioned construction. Designed from both autobiographical hints and literary types, the profile of Belano, Bolaño's alter ego, unites the author's life experiences with others that have been legendarized by literature or literary history. The article discusses not only the literary construction of Bolaño's characters, but the transformation of Bolano himself in a literary figure.
