  • Nitelikli/Ustaca İntihal (Skillful Plagiarism): Bir Örnek Vaka

    • Authors: Nejdet Bilgi

  • Family and tax registers in the Aegean Islands during the Ottoman Period

    • Authors: Dimitris Dimitropoulos
Abstract: Bu makale, Osmanlı hâkimiyetindeki Ege Adalarındaki ailelerin durumunugösteren vergi kayıt türlerini incelemektedir.

Abstract: Sassanid Empire is at theturning point of Ancient and Medieval Ages. That’s why some economic practicesare the continuity of the Ancient usage, but some practices such as landreform, applied as early as the first Shahs of Sassanid’s, may account firstmodern applications. Some Sassanidemperors had outstanding organizing capacity. Yet Shapur I was the 3rd emperor, aside capturing the Roman emperor Valerianus at Edassa war, took the necessarymeasurements to increase the fluidity of the economy. Khusru II was also aprominent emperor among the Sassanid Empire, he was consider as the last greatKing. He waged war with Romans as other Sassanid Kings, able to lead his armyup to shores of Constantinople but failed at the last of a long term war.The circulation of Drachmaeduring the time of Khusru II, were so vast and not only Arabs but other CentralAsian countries as Kushans or Hephtalites used directly or indirectly Sassanidcoins or casts in order to regulate their economic systems. • Baku Juma Mosque

    • Authors: Ersel Çağlıtütüncügil
Abstract: Theaim of this article is to introduce the Juma Mosque, which was built in BakuInnercity but now only its minaret survived. So far it is known that the onlyand the largest Friday's mosque in Baku, familiar only from the old plans andphotographs drawn/taken late 19th century. It’s plan highly matcheswith the mosques with maqsura in Iran and Anatolia built by Seljukids. Yet howeffective of this relation did not mentioned by the scholars. Russian andAzerbaijani scientists, made plenty of publications about the plan andornaments over the Mosque so we propose a new opinion by adding some newsuggestions and comments on the basis of our previous colloquies. By presentingthis example to the attention of scientists, we wanted to increase the numberof samples by evaluating the visual and aesthetic pleasure of theTurkish-Islamic mosque architecture.

  • Inscriptions from the Imamzadeh Azhar’s Tomb in Razan of Hamadan

    • Authors: Hamidreza Sohrabiabad
Abstract: The language, alphabet, and writing style used ininscriptions; the concepts and terms in these inscriptions; and the materialsand techniques used are important elements that reveal the understanding andquality of the period’s art through its socio-cultural, economic, and politicalstructures. The Province of Hamadan, located within the historical borders of Azerbaijan,is quite rich in terms of Turkish-Islamic architectural works. These works, however, have not been subjected to examination by scientists. Recognizing thecultural and material heritage of this geography, which has sociocultural, political, and economic associations through its Anatolian geography on accountof its location throughout history will also be useful for defining the artthat exists in Anatolia. This study puts the inscriptions of Imamzadeh Azhar’sTomb, located in Razan, under the spotlight and examines the inscriptions foundwithin the tomb by transferring general information about the buildingsconstruction and plan features.

  • The Law 677, Nationalization of Shrines and its Destructive Consequences:
Shrine Keeper from the Late Ottoman Empire to the Republic of Turkey

    • Authors: Gökçen Beyinli Dinç
Abstract: One of the foundational laws of the Republic of Turkey on the exclusion of the Ottoman heritage and Islam is the Law 677 which was enacted in 1925. The Law outlawed the mystic orders and closed their lodges as well as hundreds of shrines in the country and prohibited visiting them. Shrine keepers were dismissed and replaced by shrine officers in some shrines. Relying substantially on Republican archives, Parliamentary Proceedings and the previously untapped archival evidence from the Istanbul Museum Directorate of Shrines (İstanbul Türbeler Müze Müdürlüğü), this article examines the transformation of this occupation and “nationalization” of shrines from 1925 to the 1970s by situating the analysis within its legal context. It will elaborate who was a shrine keeper in the late Ottoman Empire, what happened to the shrines and shrine keepers after the shrines were closed down, the theft incidents the new shrine officers were involved with, policies regarding the “nationalization” of shrines and the tensions as well as negotiations between different actors regarding the shrines. Aiming to shed light on a previously untackled aspect of republican history, the article demonstrates how the abandonment of shrines and the policy of nationalizing and turning them into museums brought along a rupture in the cultural history of the country and contributed to the destruction of historical heritage.

  • Stalin’s Shadow on Russia’s Caucasus Politics

    • Authors: Abdullah Temizkan; Elchin Shakirov
Abstract: The aim of this work is to underline the fact that thehistorical bases of a significant part of the ethnic and political problems inthe Caucasus region were laid by Jozef Stalin and is to demonstrate thattoday's Russia uses these inherited problems to legitimize its military, political and cultural presence in the region. In this study, will be discussedanalitically Russia's policies that persist from Tsarist and Soviet era up tonow in the Caucasus. Thus, we will try to show that Russia has historicaldeepness rather than conjunctural policies of the Caucasus. After the World War II, Jozef Stalin, who wasconstantly intervening in the ethnical structure and natural borders of theCaucasus, turned this region into a convolute set of problems. A key role insolving these artifically created problems was given to the SovietUnion(today’s Russia). According to this scenario, autonomous republics had tobe convinced that the problems in the region could not be solved without theSoviet Union. The Soviet elites, who never imagined that the Soviet Union couldcollapse, left the present-day Russia open to foreign intervention, moreover interms of foreign policy Russia could be a useful tool as long as it kept itsmilitary strength.

  • Was Safavid Iran an Empire'

    • Authors: Rudi Matthee
Abstract: Bu makale, imparatorluk teriminin kullanımı veSafevîlere uygulanabilirliği hakkında fikir teatisinde bulundu.
