  • Estimation of Hourly Global Solar Radiation in Egypt Using Mathematical
           Model

      Abstract: The purpose of this paper is to develop a computer mathematical model which produces estimates of the total amount of hourly solar radiation that reaches the earth's surface in a day called hourly global solar irradiance for climate of Delta, Egypt. Predictors for solar radiation have been developed because there is often a lack of representative solar radiation data in most countries. Cloudiness, atmospheric transmissivity, latitude and orientation of the Earth relative to the Sun, time of day, slope and aspect of the surface determine the spatial and temporal distribution of irradiance  incident on a surface. Experimental data were measured in the Solar-Meteorological stations of Agricultural Engineering Department at El-menoufiya University, El-Mansoura university and Belbees. To evaluate the present model a comparison between measured and predicted data has been carried out based on the main bias error and correlation coefficient. It can be concluded that the present model can be used to estimate the values of hourly solar radiation for El-menoufiya El-Mansoura and Belbees.

  • IMPROVEMENT OF EVAPORATIVE COOLING SYSTEM EFFICIENCY IN GREENHOUSES

      Abstract: An assisted evaporative cooling system is proposed and analyzed to get higher cooling efficiency in hot and arid environments such as Saudi Arabia. For this purpose, a two-stage evaporative cooling experimental setup consisting of a direct evaporative cooling and indirect evaporative cooling was designed, constructed, and tested. The obtained data showed that, the hourly average solar radiation flux incident outside and transmitted into the greenhouse was 555.7 and 298.7 W/m2, respectively, consequently, the effective transmittance of the covering material was on the average 53.75%.  The temperature and relative humidity of outdoor air, respectively, were 37.3ºC and 21.8%, dry and wet-bulb temperatures just leaving the cooling coil were 29.4ºC and 18.8ºC, respectively, and dry-bulb temperatures of air just leaving the direct evaporative cooling were 22.8ºC. The obtained results also revealed that, the overall effectiveness of the combining cooling system was more than 100%. Thus, this system environmentally clean and energy efficient system, which considered as an alternative to the mechanical, vapour compression systems. It can also conclude that, this combining cooling system can use in various climatic conditions as an environmentally clean and energy efficient system.

  • Biogas Production from Co-digestion of Brewery Wastes [BW] and Cattle Dung
           [CD]

      Abstract: Abstract: Biogas production from the anaerobic single stage co-digestion of brewery wastes and cattle dung was analyzed in batch mode at mesophilic conditions. For every single stage batch digestion at 40 days retention time, a conversion of 73.8% of the organic solids fed into digester [HRT] was obtained. The average gas yield was 0.290m3/kgVS added. To make favorable fermentation conditions, the content of the initial Total Solids [TS] was changed from 16% to 8% by diluting with water. Maximal overall methane productivity was attained when the ratio CD/BW was 70:30 and maximum organic loading rate was 3.3kgVS/m3d found from semi-continuous digestion on 70:30 without clogging of the digester.

  • Physicochemical characterization and associated antioxidant capacity of
           fiber concentrates from Moroccan date flesh

      Abstract: This work determined the main chemical composition of ripe fruit and some functional characteristics of fruit fiber concentrate in five cultivars of date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L) from Figuig region, Morocco. The date flesh showed high amount of total sugar and total dietary fiber (DF). The DF concentrates (DFC) exhibited high contents of total DF, protein and ash and presented a relatively low amount of fat, total phenolics content and total flavonoids. The DFC also showed high water-holding and oil-holding capacities (~ 6.1- 8 g water/100 g and 5.3-6.4 g oil/100 g, respectively). Emulsion capacity of DFC was in the range of 17.5 to 23 ml/100 ml. The DFC showed also high emulsion stability (~ 34.5 - 38 ml/100 ml). The DFC was shown to possess an antiradical capacity. In fact, antiradical efficiency (AE) ranged between 1.26 and 7.09 ×10-3 of DFC, which were considered suitable for antioxidant DF production.

  • Using Proportional Integral Derivative and Fuzzy Logic with Optimization
           for Greenhouse

      Abstract: Several Studies were undertaken to evaluate the efficiency of different greenhouse control systems.  Since one of the fastest growing modern technologies in control systems used in greenhouses as well as in other fields is fuzzy logic, further research is needed to study the accuracy of the system compared to PID control system for the same environment and modeling them with the same mathematical model. In this research fuzzy logic controller was tested theoretically and experimentally compared with four PID controllers settings namely, P, PI, PD, and PID in terms of their accuracy and feasibility to control greenhouse temperature.An optimization procedure was used to determine the best control parameters for PID and Fuzzy Logic controllers. Five tests were conducted to cool the greenhouse using evaporative cooling system during summer season.Results of the research indicated that PI and PD controllers were the most efficient controllers in the controllers output or ventilation rate behavior with a zero overshoot and small maximum and minimum error from the set point. However, the Fuzzy Logic controller made the closest mean to the set point. No significant difference was noticed between the control behavior of fuzzy logic controller and the PID controllers. Therefore, fuzzy logic controller is considered an equivalent and alternative to PID controller in greenhouse climate control.
