  • Chemiresistive Sensors for Thrombin Assay Based on Nanosize Carbon
           Nanotube Films on Flexible Supports

      Abstract: We present here results obtained during the developmental construction of a selective biological sensor based on carbon nanotubes chemically modified with specific aptamers. The sensory layer, consisting of a film of carbon nanotubes, on a flexible polymer substrate, provides high sensitivity for assay of the target proteins. The responses of the sensory structures to the target protein − thrombin and a reference protein, albumin − were studied. Selective estimation of thrombin after exposure of the sensor to albumin was demonstrated.

  • Selection of Flow-Diverter Stent Models Using Optical Coherence Tomography
           and Mathematical Modeling of Hemodynamics

      Abstract: We describe a method for increasing the effectiveness of surgery to position flow-diverter stents into cerebral arteries with aneurysms based on the combined use of mathematical modeling of hemodynamics and compression elastography. Approaches to determining Young's modulus and the Poisson's ratio for phantom of cerebral artery walls on the basis of endoscopic optical coherence tomography data were developed and tested. The applicability of this method was verified using a model of internal carotid artery aneurysm using a mathematical hemodynamic model taking into account the mechanical properties of the cerebral artery wall.

  • Automated Systems for Thawing Cryopreserved Blood Components

      Abstract: The results of development and testing of a line of automated systems for thawing cryopreserved blood components are presented. The developed systems provide a significant increase in the safety of use and quality of blood components. Investigation tests of experimental models showed that the developed automated systems met the prespecified requirements for the parameters of the technological processes for thawing cryopreserved plasma and red blood cells.

      Abstract: A hardware and software system for donor liver perfusion is described. Both standard and adaptive algorithms for perfusion control in the process of liver function restoration are described. The adaptive algorithm is based on a mathematical model of machine perfusion. It provides complete perfusion and allows blood cell injuries that often accompany the standard perfusion procedure to be avoided.

  • Information Support System for Patients with Gestational Diabetes Mellitus

      Abstract: We describe here the development of a telemedical system for monitoring diabetes mellitus and providing information to support patients with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM). Recommendations for preventing postpran-dial glycemia were developed using prognostic models based on experimental data obtained from individual electronic diaries. During testing of a series of models for patients with GDM, the best results were obtained by regression modeling using rules with added instance-based corrections.

      Abstract: A test bench for performance validation of an artificial pancreas system is described. The test bench allows simulating an increase or a decrease in blood glucose by automated mixing of glucose-containing test solution. It also provides validation of the blood glucose prediction algorithm. The test bench consists of an electrical subsystem and a hydraulic subsystem that are controlled from PC user interface. It provides blood glucose measurement and prediction with an error of <5% and the accuracy of insulin dosing of 0.05 μL.

  • A Robot-Assisted Mechanotherapy System for Remote Rehabilitation of
           Patients with Pathology of the Large Joints

      Abstract: A programmable system (PS) for robot-assisted mechanotherapy was developed for the rehabilitation of patients with diseases and traumas to the hip and knee joints. The medical device developed here differs from analogs in providing programming for remote control over the individual rehabilitation process in remote access conditions. Telemetric data recorded during rehabilitation training are stored in a remote information base for subsequent automated analysis, which provides for assessment of the effectiveness of the rehabilitation process and introduction of corrections to the rehabilitation program initially formulated for each patient. The interface of the information system is intuitive and does not require the user to have experience in working with personal computers.

  • Experimental Determination of the Maximum Permissible Coil Misalignment in
           Adaptive Transcutaneous Energy Transfer Systems

      Abstract: The effect of the symmetrical coil couple geometry on the value of lateral coil misalignment that corresponds to zero coupling in inductive energy transfer systems was studied. It was shown that the distance between coil turns and the number of coil turns have rather small effect on the zero-coupling distance. Increasing the outer diameter of the coils was shown to be the only way to increase the zero-coupling distance at given parameters of the system. It was found that changes in the outer diameter of the coils had more significant effect on the zero-coupling distance when the outer diameter was more than twice as great as the inner diameter.

  • Aqueous Suspension for Laser Controlled Shock Wave Treatment of Skin and
           Mucous Membranes

      Abstract: The article describes an aqueous suspension of activated carbon particles containing unbound water used for treatment of dystrophic gynecological diseases. The treatment is based on the method of controlled shock wave destruction of pathological tissues using laser radiation poorly absorbed by the tissues. A technology for saturating internal micropores of activated carbon particles with unbound water and preparing the aqueous suspension is described. The results of histological in vitro studies of the zone of necrosis caused by exposure of model biological objects (mucous membrane of miniature pig vagina) to shock waves are presented. It is shown that the thickness of the necrosis zone decreases with increasing intensity of laser radiation.

      Abstract: Computerized emission tomography is an effective method for the diagnosis of pathological states in the human body. A new emission tomography approach was developed involving the use of multiplexed measurement systems (MMS). An iterative algorithm implementing the back projection method for emission tomography based on MMS was developed using hexagonal coding collimators. Numerical modeling demonstrated the validity of the proposed method.

  • Effect of Antenna Shape on Wireless Data Channel Bandwidth in Batteryless

      Abstract: The effect of the shapes of the transmitter and receiver antennas on the voltage gain and the bandwidth of the wireless channel of inductive powering units was evaluated. Antennas with square and round coils were compared. It was shown that under otherwise identical conditions square-coil antennas provided higher voltage gain and broader bandwidth of the wireless channel.

  • Determination of Heart Rate Variability from High-Resolution Esophageal
           Manometry Data

      Abstract: The article considers the possibility of calculating heart rate variability from heart rate data obtained by filtering high-resolution esophageal manometry signals. The data from a single sensor in the central region of the esophagus were used so that the effect of cardiac activity on the signal was most pronounced. After filtering, a sinusoidal signal was obtained. This signal was processed using a peak detector to calculate the time distance between the extrema. Based on manometry and ECG data, histograms and scattergrams were constructed and the variability parameters were calculated.

  • Development of Laminated Thermoelectric Modules for a Neonatal
           Resuscitation System

      Abstract: Computation of the temperature regime of a thermoelectric neonatology system is considered. Differential equations are used to provide the basis for computational relationships describing convective heat exchange in the system. Laminated thermoelectric batteries are calculated and optimized to form a specified distribution of temperatures in the neonatology resuscitation system. The optimized characteristics of the laminated thermal element are presented.

  • An Experimental Study of Thermal Characteristics of Minimally Invasive
           Cryoprobes in Different Cooling Modes

      Abstract: The use of special software for planning and monitoring cryosurgical operations is one of the main ways to improve the efficiency of cryosurgery. To develop such software, it is necessary to have detailed data on the temperature characteristics of cryoprobes. In this work, time dependences of temperature distributions along the working parts of cryoprobes have been experimentally obtained for two types of minimally invasive cryoprobes in different operation modes (continuous coolant feeding with 100% cooling capacity; pulsed feeding with 20, 40, 60, 80% cooling capacity). The obtained results can be used in computer modeling of multi-probe cryosurgical operations with the use of serially produced cryoprobes and for evaluating the efficiency of the cryoprobes being developed.
