Abstract Objective: To analyze occupational health and safety (OHS) management practices used by companies that allow teleworking and propose modifications to the OHS management system. Methods: The unit of study were companies in the services sector of Bogotá and their teleworkers. To identify company practices, , we conducted a survey of teleworkers and key informant interviews with those responsible for OHSh. Recommendations for adapting the elements of the teleworking management system were made based on the analysis and integration of the theoretical and conceptual framework with the practices of companies with teleworkers. Results: Overall, we observed that companies continue with usual strategies for workplace health and safety, without considering the different nature of the work. The synthesis that resulted from combining the theoretical and conceptual framework with the risk management analysis in companies identified that the system components could be modified for telework, specifically in the organization and planning, application and evaluation components of the OHS management system. Conclusions: Usual OHS risk management practices of companies with teleworkers should be improved by adjusting some of the components of the management system. These adjustments include managing information and technological innovations by applying them to the organization and planning, application and evaluation components of the system.

Abstract Objective: To evaluate the importance and degree of development of the professional competences of occupational health nursing specialists in Spain described in Public Order SAS/1348/2009 in the areas of prevention, clinical care services, legal expertise, management, teaching and research. Methodology: This cross-sectional, descriptive study surveyed occupational health nurse members of specific and/or relevant multidisciplinary professional societies at the autonomous community or state levels in Spain. A questionnaire, designed by an expert panel and centered on approved professional competencies was administered in 2014. Descriptive statistics summarized the sociodemographic profile of respondents. Bivariate analysis, followed by multivariate linear regression analysis, was used to measure associations between specific independent variables and both the perceived importance and degree of development of each competency. Results: In the descriptive analysis of perceived importance, there are three competencies that stand out: manage a registration system that ensures the confidentiality of the data; increase the health level of the worker through health promotion and risk prevention, and identify real or potential occupational health problems. Regarding highest degree of development, the following stand out: management of a confidentiality registration system; provide urgent and emergency care in the workplace and identify real or potential occupational health problems. Discussion: Type of occupational health service, the economic sector to which the company belonged and years of professional experience were associated with both the importance and degree of development of each of the competencies.

Abstract Aim: To analyze catharsis techniques used with professionals assisting victims of emergencies and disasters. Methods: Systematic review carried out in seven bibliographic databases: MEDLINE-Pubmed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Scopus, PsycINFO, and other secondary sources, for articles published between 2008 and 2017, with the terms “catharsis”, “emergencies”, “debriefing” y “post-traumatic stress”. Publication and selection biases were taken into account. Results: Five reviews met the study inclusion criteria. Distress and traumatic experiences following an emergency or disaster are very common among health professionals, with adverse repercussions at the physical, psychological and cognitive levels. . Some authors find that debriefing offers an opportunity for emotional release and toreduce the impact of stress on the lives of emergency responders, acting as a support network where they can reconstruct their experiences, express their thoughts and feelings, and reduce the impact on their lives. For other authors, however, this technique is not always effective for all professionals and may lead to negative consequences. Conclusions: Debriefing is a common intervention that promotes catharsis. However, there is considerable controversy over its implementation and effectiveness. This study identified a diversity of catharsis techniques applied to staff responding to emergencies and disasters.

Abstract The assessment of workplace psychosocial risk factors is complex and controversial. The main criticism is focused on the validity of the tools used in their evaluation; basically, self-report measures which are subject to several sources of error. While there has been an increase in efforts to provide evidence on the reliability and the validity of the available assessment instruments, bias is often ignored as an important source of error. Although bias may be a novel topic to many prevention technicians, their detection and control is a traditional and well-studied theme in the field of work psychology. This article gives lay practitioners a better understanding of the concept of bias, as well as the related modes of identification and control, to improve the quality of psychosocial risk assessments.
